Marvin Harrison Week 13 Injury Update (1 Viewer)

I've edited my original post. RotoWorld's report from Dungy's press conference made it sound much more pessimistic. Sounds like the Colts still believe Harrison can return this week. Here's a quote from Dungy today:

“We’re hoping Marvin will be back and be ready to go and practice,” Dungy said. “If he’s able to do that, and be ready to go and play, it’s going to be a big lift to us. We’ll see how that goes.”

Its getting down to crunch time here for us Fantasy folks. IMO Harrison needs to start and produce in at least one game before he sees my starting lineup. If he doesnt play this week, I have a hard time seeing him cracking the lineup the rest of the season.

I have a bad feeling he will play the decoy role more often than not. The only thing he does have going for him is that Teams now need to gameplan Reggie as the #1.

As a Wayne owner I'd like to have him back so Marvin can get double covered and Wayne can go off once again.

At this point I think Wayne will still be double covered. Harrison has to prove he's healthy and can be the threat he used to be. If I were a coordinator, Wayne is still doubled....all day long.

Those that know about ruptured bursa sacs: Assuming the Colts are being honest about the injury, is there a risk of reinjuring it at this stage of the game, or is it just something that will depend on Marvin's pain tolerance to the inflammation? The reason that he was shut down for so long was so he could come back completely healthy and I just want to know if there is a chance this will be the case.

I ruptured a bersa sac in college....just a lot of fluid and swelling on the knee. It wasn't really painful, but I wasn't playing professional football either.

Mine was an "impact" rupture and felt like a bruise....sorry not much help.

From John Clayton's Insider blog:

Harrison's status: Despite the 10-day layoff from Thanksgiving, Colts WR Marvin Harrison remains a question mark for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He will try to practice this week, and there is some optimism he could be available.

Kind of like Javon Walker last Sunday.

I think anyone who starts Marvin sight unseen (one game under his belt and another week of practice) is either desperate or insane. I lost Hackett this weekend, my planned #3 from here on out and I went to the wire and will start that wire player regardless of Harrison's status this week in a crucial game. No way do I start Harrison without seeing some real production.

Completely agree. He is 35ish with a bad knee. I have to see him hurt someone before I pay the attention to him that he usually gets (and deserves). Even if he does see the field, what are the chances that he will be productive?

Heres an excerpt from today's (11/28) The Polian Corner on Colts.com.

Q: Is there any update on the status of wide receiver Marvin Harrison?

A: There’s really no update at this point, because we don’t have to know until Wednesday how he feels. He’s making progress. No question about that. The graph is up. The knee is sound. It’s healing. Whether it has healed enough for him to go out there and go 100 percent remains to be seen. It’s getting closer. How close it is I can’t say at this point in time.

I think we can finally stick a fork in Marvin. From RotoWorld:

When asked Wednesday whether he expects Marvin Harrison (knee) to play in Week 13, Peyton Manning answered "I wouldn't count on it."

The Indianapolis Star doesn't expect Harrison to be back in action until the playoffs, and believes that if Marvin is active for any more regular season games, he's likely to be limited in them. It'd be hard to drop Harrison in 12-team leagues, but fantasy owners' expectations should be minimal.

damn, that sucks, but sounds like the best move for the Colts, fantasy players be damned. i actually took Marvin for the first time ever this year because he was the "safe" pick. shows that nothing is certain in fantasy football.

This is probably the end of his career. WRs don't miss nearly an entire year at age 35 and come back to be productive in the NFL. Jerry Rice is a major exception.

I wouldn't go that far. At this point, he's a possession receiver with great hands. He could still be useful in that role for a few more years.

Let's look at the roster moves...

Freeney got hurt, they IRed him immediately. Simeon Rice came in, didn't perform that bad in his cup of coffee with the Colts, and they got rid of him to open up a roster spot for RB depth. If Marvin was that bad off, they would have IRed him and thus freed up a valuable roster spot with all of these injuries.

Now we have smoke and mirrors here with Polian saying that Marvin is getting better, while Peyton is saying he wouldn't count on him. Clearly someone is telling the truth and someone is not, or we have two half truths here. A white hot Jax team is in the house this week, and it's pure deceptive behavior (or gamesmanship if you will) to get the Jags thinking...

My bet? Marvin plays this week, gets a couple of small out route catches, and is used mostly as a decoy while Clark and Wayne explodes. But I'm no doctor, and I'm certainly not connected to anyone that knows anything.

Is it time to pick up Anthony Gonzalez?
It's been time to pick him up for a while now. If he's still on any wire, I'd say grab him ASAP
Why? He hasn't exactly lit the world on fire.
Why not if you got the room. If Harrison's out for the rest of the year, along with Aaron Moorehead, it can only mean more opportunities for Gonzalez. Also, Tony Ugoh, the left tackle will be back soon after missing the past 5 games. Gonzalez did have a year high 7 targets in the last game vs Atl.Dwight Freeney is done = this could possibly lead to the opposing team scoring more? More shootouts?Anyways, feel free to correct/add to what I just wrote.

I certainly feel he has upside (I dropped Stallworth for him). I agree to grab him if you have room but I don't know that he's going to be a top fantasy force.

I think Gonzalez is at least in a position where he can be a decent WR3 at least. If Harrison is done for the rest of the regular season and Gonzalez can stay healthy, one would think he'll get 5-7 targets or so a week. Prior to last week, he hadn't done much but he did look good against the Falcons. I think he has a decent matchup this week against the Jags with Mathis likely focusing most of his attention on Wayne. Gonzalez is definitely risky but he's talented, definitely in a good situation as far as the offense and the QB and the Colts need to keep winning. If everything breaks right for him, I could see him finishing in the 30-35 range among WRs the rest of the way.

At this point is it safe to drop Harrison for Gonzo?
I have learned from bitter experience to not trust rookie WR's in late season games. They blossom during the middle of the season, and then either hit the wall or are not prepared for the pressure of late season games. So if you have no choice but to make a move, make it, but Indy needs Harrison back and practicing before the playoffs.

It doesn't matter if they need him or not-if he's not healthy then he's not healthy. Not much anyone can do about that. This has lingered for numerous weeks and we STILL don't know exactly what has been ailing the guy? I wouldn't hold out hope that he'll be coming back anytime soon. So if he misses time, who will start in his place? Who CAN start in his place other than Gonzales? If you're a starting wr on a team that has Peyton Manning throwing the ball, you have some value.

Yup. I'm done with the guy. I rolled the dice several weeks ago hoping his knee injury wasn't serious. Turned out to be a horrible decision. I've waited long enough. At this point, I see no reason to have any optimism about Harrison anymore. He's missed one huge game; he's had months of rest and he still isn't practicing. I'm in a league with tight roster limits. I have no idea if Gonzalez will do well; I just know I've been as patient as I can be with Harrison and I'm going to find someone to replace him.

Am I the only one that hasn't dropped Marvin for Gonzo? Might be time to pull the trigger, cant come back to haunt me unless he lights it up first game back. Was so excited to have him and Peyton. :nerd:

I am still holding out...just thinking I could use the roster spot if I knew he was out thru week 16.

Any updates on this situation? Harrison was dropped in one of my league and I scooped him. Wondering if I wasted $2

No updates, but I don't see him playing until January now. The Colts victory yesterday allows them to be more cautious with their injured players.

This is from an interview of Bill Polian (Colts President)

Q: Can you update the status of wide receiver Marvin Harrison?

A: He’s doing fine. He had a good workout Monday. I would hope he’s about ready to get back into some limited practice. We’re now at the stage where we’re starting to think about conditioning and that’s a good thing, because that means he’s getting very close to playing. We’ll keep an eye on it, but the arrow was up on the graph. No question about that.

I'm "in for a penny, in for a pound". If I was going to drop him, I needed to do it long ago when there were options that could actually help me. Now there really aren't, so I may as well stick it out.

Me too...My playoffs start this week and I may just drop him b/c it sounds like he won't do me any good in Weeks 14, 15 and 16 (if I'm alive that long).Anyone else dropping him?
