According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Ryan Mathews suffered an elbow injury in practice last week, possibly explaining his minor role in Sunday's game against Arizona.
The Chargers listed Mathews as having practiced fully all week, and never made mention of the elbow on their Week 4 injury report. A fine from the NFL could be in the works. As of the 11:30 mark in the third quarter, Mathews had just three carries for 20 yards and a 13-yard catch. Mike Tolbert is dominating the backfield with 15 touches, 99 yards, and a touchdown.
Doesn't matter if he played. If he was injured in practice they have to report it. I had a close decision between Mathews and Brandon Jackson this week. I wouldn't have started Mathews had I known he was nicked up.
I pointed this out yesterday morning in the Mathews vs. Tolbert thread....FBGs said he wasn't listed on the injury report on Friday and then on Saturday showed this:
