Matt Cassel (1 Viewer)

"NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora believes the Chiefs will "strongly consider" cutting ties with Matt Cassel after the 2010 season.

Cassel is due a $4.75 million salary plus a $7.5 million option bonus, which would make him one of the highest paid players in the league next year. The Chiefs upgraded the talent around him, so the excuses for his poor play are running out. Cassel has provided no reason to believe he can develop into a franchise quarterback."

As a Bowe owner, I think the time is now to get him out of there if they feel he isn't in their long term plans. What are they waiting for?

In two games he has 244 yards passing...52% completions, 1 TD, and 2 INT's, 55 QB rating. I just don't see how they can continue to play this guy. How much longer does this guy last.......

Well they are a fool's gold 2-0 right now, but I agree with you. Watching him, he just does not look like a starting caliber QB...it's amazing to see the difference between him now and his games with the Pats. My guess is they move away from Cassel later on in the year when they are out of contention and they need to take the obligatory look at what they have in Croyle again

To Denver maybe...I hear the Broncos coach is real high on him.

Proposed Trade.

Kansas City sends Matt Cassel and a thank you note to Denver in return for Brady Quinn, a bunch of #####willow branches and an ornamental vase.

ETA

Why won't it let me write #####willow branches?

This morning on the way in to work I was listening to KC Sports Talk and a caller made a comment about this being essentially Cassell's "rookie year" because he was still developing and that he needs a longer leash. 3rd and 7, check down for 4 yards to Moeaki is a common theme and the reason they can't move the ball and extend drives.

The KC media has been lighting him up for 2-3 weeks about how bad he has been, but the back up is Brodie Croyle, so it isn't like Cassell wouldn't be playing by the start of the 2nd quarter if Croyle started...that guy is FRAGILE!!

I don't dislike Cassell, but c'mon this guy is so indecisive and they obviously don't trust him...28, one good year with Moss, Welker & Co. and a huge contract haven't made him a real QB.

Stats of the day mentioned...KC has given up 2 sacks and 5 hits to the QB so far this year and he still hasn't produced.

I feel bad for ol Brodie. He could light up the league if he weren't built like a 13 year old. Rocket arm, but just can't stay healthy.

I have never been a believer in Cassell and thought it was ridiculous for KC to give him the contract that they did in the first place. And as a Charles owner I would very much like to see improved play from the KC QB position.

But, Brodie Croyle would likely be even worse. It's easy to say bench this guy but what is the alternative. I think the Chiefs have to hope Cassel's play improves this year and then look for other options in the off-season.

Never liked him as a starting QB, and still don't. Guy should be carrying a clipboard on Sundays..Big gamble. Lost. Move on.

I've always questioned the decision to trade for Cassell. He put up 19 touchdowns on a team that set records the year before and has never shown us anything before hand. He'd last only 2 quarters in Philly...

If they were 0-2 I think KC fans would be calling for his head.

Pioli is beginning to lose his genius tag. He lets Thigpen go and he looked a real interesting QB prospect. Be blows a 2nd round pick on low-grade Cassel and gives him a huge deal. He blows 1.3 on Tyson Jackson. He brings in a bunch of past-it duffers who all get cut. He stymies the progress of Jamaal Charles (whom he inherited) by signing Thomas Jones. If he's doing a great job I'm a Dutchman.

You must be a Charles owner because bringing in Jones was a good move for the team. Charles is very effective with limited touches while having someone else pound the defenses.

Yet a team that geniuses like you predicted to be 2-14 is 2-0, and making real progess defensively. They have a top 5 running game and top 5 special teams unit. Sure, Cassel is utter trash, but everyone swings and misses sometimes. Of course the guy who helped identify him and has worked with him brought him in and had confidence. Cassel hasn't rewarded that confidence and his time is running out. He's the GM, not the HC. Whatever happens with Jamaal Charles is on the HC. But they've got a top 5 running game and a 2-0 record so I don't imagine they care what someone like you thinks about their usage of Charles. The rest of your post is a combination of conjecture and garbage. He brought in 2 FA OLs who are a big part of the reason why KC has allowed 2 sacks in 2 games (1 that was ENTIRELY on Cassel) and is top 5 in the NFL in rushing. The only notable has-been that came in and got cut was Zach Thomas. BFD. Zero risk signings allow teams to make those cuts without blinking. Thigpen? :hifive: The Chiefs need a QB. Newsflash: it's not easy to get one. If they somehow do -- like the Pats did with Brady -- they'll be a playoff team for the rest of the decade.

Can Cassell do it vs Indy?

Always interesting when the upstart team begins doing well, the players linger in the FA pool, then one by one they start to go....

Thomas Jones was left out there.

Moeaki, McCluster remain untouched in many leagues... they may be starting to go.

But Cassell, there's a real perception problem there, for obvious reasons.

But with Indy he can make his mark and then getting him off the WW will not be so easy.

Exit note: Indy's missing Sanders and now their other vet safety, Bullitt, is out for the year. And the fill-in does not look too, too scarey to me - 2 career starts, no INT's.

Indy is tough at home though. Schaub and Garrard had great games, but Eli Manning got pretty rough up (while still getting 2 TD's).

Actually the safety that's taking Sanders/Bullitt's place is Dejaun Morgan. He was drafted by the Chiefs in 2008 and released this training camp. He's garbage.

:tinfoilhat:

Agree with everything you said.

Cassel is going to get demolished by Freeney/Mathis if he drops back to pass this weekend... think Cutler, Sunday night. He holds the ball too long, and already takes too many sacks... now add the Indy pass rush into the equation...

If KC wants to win, they'll have to force turnovers, and have a strong showing on the ground, and hope special teams helps with field possession.

So basically what they've done all year... not rely on Cassel.

469 & 4 TDs today. :shock:Nothing like getting down 28-0 early.
He still should be let go. Hangs on to the ball too long, pats it 3 times before every pass and has horrible accuracy 90% of the time. He sucks, I hope they make a change at the end of the year. That said, I doubt they do.

I don't know why the phrase "horrible accuracy 90% of the time" makes me :loco: but it does.-QG

He is a 58.4% passer. If he was a 10% passer I'm pretty sure he'd be cut, or playing for Dallas, either one.

It was exaggeration for effect, but I'd love to know what his completion percentage of passes 20 yards or more is. It can't be good.

I'll let you handle that, my research ADD has kicked in.
