Matt Hasselbeck when he returns (1 Viewer)

So supposedly Hasselbeck is going to return to action week 11. Do people really believe he will be back by then and why? If not, why don't you think he will return next week? When he does return, will he step right in and produce like he was before he got hurt, or is he going to be rusty, physically limited, and tentative due to the knee injury?

Should Hasselbeck owners be going to plan B, or is Hasselbeck a good gamble and a guy you would be willing to stake your season on?

scheduleAssuming he doesn't go all Culpepper on us he should be fine, just consider someone else for week 16 if you make it that far. What are your other options, and what are you going to get for him?

I have Grossman, Green and Hasselbeck. He has to be fine because Grossman scares me and Green might forget the plays... ;)

hass isnt a wimpy guy, he wanted to return during the game he was hurt against minn. He should be fine and quite productive since the ground game is a joke compared to last year. He is a pretty cool guy i met him last at a golf tourny 2 years ago.

I'm banking on Hasselbeck (Romo and ASmith behind him), but I am like the OP and I'm not 100 percent confident that Hass will step right back in and be productive.

I don't think he will physically struggle (I doubt they'd run him out there if he's not medically ready), but I think it may take him some time to get up to mid-season game speed.

In 2004, on a PPG basis, Hasselbeck was QB12.

In 2005, on a PPG basis, Hasselbeck was QB12.

In 2006, on a PPG basis, Hasselbeck has been QB12.

I boldly predict that when Hasselbeck returns from injury, he will be no better than QB12.

Under what scoring rules?Under FBG scoring, he was #10 last year in PPG.

Also, there was almost no separation in PPG for QBs - all of these QBs were within 1.15 point per game of each other:

6 Collins,Kerry OAK 15 17.67

7 Manning,Eli NYG 16 17.58

8 Vick,Michael ATL 15 17.57

9 Warner,Kurt ARI 10 17.38

10 Hasselbeck,Matt SEA 16 17.34

11 Bledsoe,Drew DAL 16 17.14

12 Brees,Drew SD 16 16.95

13 Brooks,Aaron NO 13 16.89

14 Green,Trent KC 16 16.71

15 McNair,Steve TEN 14 16.52

And the #4 and #5 players in PPG were within 2 PPG of Hass:

4 Brady,Tom NE 16 19.43

5 Manning,Peyton IND 16 18.39

MOX rules (FBG rules but no deduction for turnovers).10, 12, whatever. Hasselbeck has to be the most overrated fantasy quarterback of the last three years bar none (I don't count Culpepper and his fluke injury). He is consistently a borderline QB1 but FBG and others always treat him like stud.I looked into this recently when I considered trading Bulger (consistently top 4 QB in PPG) for Hasselbeck. Bulger, incidentally, is my pick for most underrated fantasy QB of the last few years (perhaps Vick too).

Wasn't Hasseleck around the #5 QB in PPG after the first 5 games? I think he was also in the top 10 in 2003 and 2005.

Well, that all depends on the year - Hass was not a top-10 fantasy pick until last year. Before that he was consistently available very late.

I love Bulger - always have. My only drawback for him has been his injury history and, for this year, I advised folks to simply grab Frerotte, and some QB with a good matchup on Bulger's bye week, and go from there.

This year? After week 5, he was 9th in PPG.

Any Seattle homers with info on whether Hass will ever get back?

Last ww moves this week and I've been dragging Hass around as my QB3 hoping he'd be back by now. If he will be a QB I can count on in three weeks (when the FF playiffs start), I keep him and ditch my QB2, if he's potentially not playing again this year, he's a goner.

The week 16 matchup vs San Diego is worse for Alexander than Hasselbeck. If anything San Diego is more likely to shut down the run forcing Hass to pass more often. The worst thing that could happen to Hass's value is the Rams laying down and dying in the division race.

Tough call this weekend if he plays - SF is a juicy matchup! If you have a good plan B it may make sense to wait a week and see how Hass fairs. I have Kitna in a good matchup so thinking of waiting it out - if I didn;t have as good of an option I would roll the dice with HAss.

The News

It is starting to look like Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck may miss this Sunday's game against the 49ers. ESPN's John Clayton reports Hasselbeck, who has missed the last three games with a sprained MCL, felt soreness Monday after trying to perform drills for the first time in cleats and his return may be pushed back a week.

Our View

Hasselbeck will likely attempt to practice later in the week, but unless he feels very good after that session, Seneca Wallace will get another chance to quarterback the Seahawks. We'll obviously be keeping a close eye on this all week, and it looks like we'll have a good idea of Hasselbeck's availability after Friday's practice.
