The disappointment continues. Hankton came in to the game Sunday in place of Jones, much to the delight of the crowd. I didn't see the fan altercation with Reggie Williams Sunday.
In a day filled with horrid performances, Jacksonville's receivers stood out the most, dropping five passes - leading to two of David Garrard's four interceptions - in addition to committing two costly penalties. Former first-round pick Reggie Williams apparently was involved into an verbal altercation with a fan in the crowd at Alltel Stadium and Ernest Wilford intervened, resulting in a shoving match between the two. While Del Rio sidestepped questions about Williams' confrontation with the fan, the coach did address his receivers' performance."The best way to challenge the guys, I think, is with playing time," Del Rio said.Williams started the season on fire, catching 24 passes in the first five games, only to watch his reception totals dwindle to three grabs in the last four contests, with several drops along the way. Matt Jones caught 11 passes in his first two outings, missed two games, and returned on Oct. 29 against Philadelphia. Since then, Jones has just six receptions and two of his drops on Sunday resulted in interceptions. Averaging a little more than two catches per game, Wilford has been the most consistent of the receivers. But drops have been a problem for him, too."What we need is consistency," Wilford said. "We're not getting that."Because of struggles at receiver, Del Rio says he'd like to see more of backup Cortez Hankton, who hauled in a 38-yard pass against Houston that was nullified by a penalty. Unhappy with Jones' play, Del Rio inserted Hankton late in Sunday's game. He's caught three passes this season."Obviously Hankton makes a great catch [against the Texans]," Del Rio said. "We've got to give him a few more reps and see if he's going to do that for us."
