I think Jones wanted a personal wake up call by choosing to be jailed for a week. It's kind of like man if I don't get my life together and take advantage of my opportunities I could end up in jail for a long time or worse. That is my interpretation.

I have a 'hard time' believing that.I think he saw it like this:1 week of sitting around a cell, doing some laundry, reading a book.OR6 weeks of hardcore introspection and confronting his substance abuse problems.Jail isn't exactly the place where people get their "life together".

If I'm not mistaken he wanted and chose the 6 months but the judge told him that he was have to be so involved that it would interfere with football. I even think the judge told him to reconsider his decision. He didn't want to go to jail because he didn't want his mother to see him in handcuffs. IIRC
(KFFL) The Cincinnati Bengals have released WR Dezmon Briscoe, WR Matt Jones, PK Dave Rayner and SS Kyries Hebert, reports Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Tough break as when he went to Cinci there appeared to be a huge opportunity, but quickly A Bryant and then TO came to town. Curious as to whether he played well or just didn't show much.
There are still plenty of teams where he could walk in and land a roster spot. I don't think you will see him out of the NFL all together. This is more about the talent that Cinci has put together the past couple of seasons IMO. He simply was not going to see the field much and also Shipley has been very impressive in camp.
Is Matt Jones any value in 2010? probably not but I can see him making another team with lesser talent in the WR stables.

He may hang around but I can't see him ever being valuable in fantasy. I can't think of one NFL player whose career trajectory has been similar to Jones' and then he suddenly emerged as a star.
