Matt Jones (1 Viewer)

Assuming he doesn't fall into the dreaded sophmore slump, he should continue to progress. Will he start? Probably not. I assume they'll continue with a rotation of himself, Wilford and possibly Reggie Williams. They may also bring in a veteran and/or rookie. I doubt he'll be fantasy relevant in '06 in most leagues. I think realistically speaking, 700 yards and 6-8 TDs would be nice. And those are pretty high projections. He's a better bet in '07 or '08.

Del Rio will get Jones on the field in a variety of ways. Sometimes as the #2, sometimes as the slot WR, I wouldnt be surprised if he lines up as the TE or QB for a few plays. Simply put, you get your best players on the field.

432 / 5 as a rookie, first time ever playing WR is pretty decent. not enough to make him a WR2 or probably 3 just yet, but certainly a bye week filler.

Consider, in the last 5 games (including the playoffs) that Leftwich played most of the game in, Jones netted an average of 4 receptions, 75 yards and almost a TD per game. We all know the risk associated with using a small sample and expecting that trend to continue for a full year, but the stats, and if you watched the game, it clearly shows a desire to get him involved. (Garrard didn't figure out how to use him until the last game). That would equate to 64/ 1,200 / 12. I don't expect him to approach 1,000 yards, but I feel relatively comfortable with 45/800/8. That would make him a poor #3 in most leagues, but a pretty good bye week / injury replacement.

I think that he will have the equivalent playing time of a starter because of his versatility but on the depth charts no he will not start opposite of Smith until next year. He is my number 4 WR in a dynasty that starts 3WR and he is going to be hopfully my future number 2.

I just have a gut feeling that with Smith getting over the hill, they will see the talent that Jones possesses and find numerous ways to get im the ball. he will be a star within 2 seasons...starting with a vast improvement from his rookie season.

I was on the Matt Jones bandwagon last year. I think he will be the team's #3 WR behind Jimmy Smith and Earnest Wilford. Not only does Wilford have one more year of experience in the NFL, he was also a WR in college which gives him even more of a shot of replacing J.Smith. If you are looking for a Jag to draft at WR I would go with Wilford who I think has the most upside. Still, I might avoid all Jax WRs as their is a glut of them around the same level (including Reggie Williams) and still Byron throwing the ball...he is erratic as they come.

Redraft, I assume. Why would you have been on the bandwagon last year and jumped off this year?

If anything I would think more people would be on now.

Because Wilford impressed me more. As long as J.Smith is around, Jones will be nothing more than a #3 WR.

I would not be at all surprised to see Jimmy Sniff gone after this year. Watching him last year, it was painfully clear this guy is done.

500 and 6 for this year

I think once Jimmy is gone that Jags look to bring in a WR real fast. Next years class is awesome by the early sounds of it and I could see them drafting one than. I think Jones/Wilford will always fight for that 2 spot. I still rate Jones 5th in last years class.

I disagree...Matt Jones will be a special player.

You'll have to excuse Crippler here. He was of the opinion that Jones will never amount to anything except maybe "Mr. Trickster". He isn't about to admit he was wrong. Now, after Jones puts up WR3 stats this year, with top stats towards the end, maybe he'll change his mind.

The only WR I will say I'd prefer outright to Jones from last year's class is Braylon. Arguably Clayton.

My prediction is that he will be incredibly overhyped like last year.
I took him at 2.3 in the rookie draft of a 16 team IDP league last year. I wasn't expecting much from him even with all the hype. Afterall, he was a rookie and was switching positions. I was pleasantly surprised he had as good of a season last year as he did

Wilford is going to be their go-to man in the red zone much like last year. Wilford has the tools to make the big plays when it matters. Anyone thinking that Jones is going to be #2 in Jac is sadly mistaken.

I would hazard to guess that with his size, that Matt Jones would be the primary red zone option. Five TDs for a rookie is fairly impressive.

That said, whilst at the moment, I'm slanting towards the "eventual superstar" camp, I'm not about to give him a fully gauranteed money back offer. He had a nice rookie campaign. Promising, but hardly awe-inspiring. He needs at least one more year before we can make any sort of educated judgement.

I haven't been paying attention as to what has been happening with Jimmy Smith. Is he a lock to be the #1 WR again? How much do you guys think he has left in the tank?

Unless he gets injured, he'll be a starter. He might not get as many looks, but he'll probably be the #1 option. All this talk about Jimmy Smith "being done" is ridiculous and uninformed. He's lost a step and he's not the WR he was in the late 90s-early 21st century, but he's still better than most reciever in the league and he's certainly the best reciever on the Jags. The gap has closed, but there's still a gap.

What about Lee Evans? I think he was hands down the best rookie WR last year. I think Clayton comes in second with Jones close behind at third.

 (I'm not quite sure how to respond to that)

When Jones learns to consistently catch with 2 hands instead of always going for the highlight 1 handed grab and then of course gains some experience, he will be the #1 guy for the Jags.

:lmao: Nothing else to add.

My view is that Matt Jones is a beast, and he just got beastlier.

As a Leftwich owner, maybe I'm predjudiced, but with all respect to Jimmy Smith, if the Jax running game can keep things honest, I really don't think their passing game is gonna take too big of a hit. Wilford is talented, Marcedes Lewis will help quite a bit by mid-season, and Jones is, well, the guy is just a freak, plain and simple.

Good call
I think you are off by a year.
Not as good a call  Ernest Wilford & Matt Jones

Reggie Williams
Actually, Tremblay was right on. Smith was not gone after this year. He was gone BEFORE this year. Thus, the original prediction was off by a year. :pics:
