Matt Lepsis retires (1 Viewer)

I've watched it on replay and I'm still trying to see if it was a block from behind and whether or not he ended the defensive players season because the defensive player was defenseless at the time. Nope. At least his block took place while the play was actually going on... unlike the Nalen "block". I'm willing to wager the Dielman block won't be fined... how much would you like to wager?I don't really care den fans... if you want to lionize all these dirty lineman that's fine. If you want to find a single team that has as many examples of dirty hits as I've posted here by den OLman in the past five years then do so. Otherwise, just keep trying to convince yourself "Well, everyone else is doing it... we're just getting singled out!". That's fine.
I'm not lionizing dirty linemen. I'm lionizing Matt Lepsis. What the hell does a Tom Nalen block have to do with anything except for your baggage that you're bringing into this thread? You wanna talk about Nalen, start a Nalen thread (where I'll kindly point out that Tom Nalen was in the wrong, but was hardly the first player to ever get into extracurriculars after a play was over).Again, your entire argument right now is based on one play against Maa Tanavasu (since even Jags fans admit there was nothing dirty about the Spicer play), as well as the fact that Lepsis cut blocks sometimes (despite the fact that you just shrugged off evidence of Chargers cut blocking). You also keep mentioning a hit from Foster and another hit from Nalen that might be relevant if this were a Denver Blocking thread or a George Foster thread or a Tom Nalen thread... but it's not. You mention that Lepsis is probably in the top 10% for number of fines, which *IS* relevant to this thread. My response? He's probably in the top 10% for games played, too. Funny how that works sometimes. :goodposting:You want to talk about dirty Denver linemen, start a Dan Neil thread. You want to talk about whether cut blocking is fine for Chargers but not for Broncos or whether it's okay if you only get fined once but not if you get fined twice (both of them more than 6 years ago), then I'm sure we could find a thread for that. In the meantime... Matt Lepsis. Great guy, great football player, great loss. He will be greatly missed.

Lepsis dived on the back of a DL, ended his season and was fined by the league for doing so. The Dielman block fits none of those criteria... so there is no comparison. Just because I can't make the connection between a S hitting a WR crossing the middle as being the same thing as diving on the back of a defensless linemans legs doesn't mean I'm shrugging this stuff off... it means there are comparisons being made in this thread that are ridiculous. As far as "great guys" and "class guys" being fined for dirty play more than most any other players at their position... who knew? I also don't consider players found guilty of drunk driving very classy either. I guess it turns out all those raider teams from the 70's/80's were class guys too.

There is a very strong direct correlation between a player's tenure in the league and how many times he's been fined. Are you saying that veterans are less classy than rookies, or are you willing to acknowledge that part of the reason people with a lot of games under their belts tend to have more fines is BECAUSE they have a lot of games under their belts (in the same way that those players are also significantly more likely to have more career penalties because they've been playing for longer)? Lepsis has been fined on average once ever 75 games. Do you really think that that rate is going to be higher than most any other players at his position?Edit: As I said, your argument basically boils down to "on the basis of a single play that happened six and a half years ago and ignoring every other play in Lepsis' entire career, he must be dirty".
