Matt Ryan gets a Nike deal. (1 Viewer)

we're to blame too, the public. We get all hyped up about rookies... until they step on the field and get spanked by the vets.

I don't think it's necessarily the public getting hyped, but rather than Matt Ryan is going to be the franchise player and the new face for the Falcons and Atlanta will be hopping on his bandwagon and supporting him to no end. Nike is trying to cash in on that, and with good reason.

It's got nothing to do with being fair...it's business. Nike has decided that Matt Ryan is an investment that will help increase their sales. The fact he's a #3 pick, plays QB, has somewhat of a Boy Scout persona, is well spoken and should be a high quality player is why he got this deal. In Nike's opinion there's a large demographic that will relate to him and hopefully (for Nike) be more inclined to use their products as Ryan does.

I'd be willing to bet Blank had a hand in getting him this deal.

He's desperate to make this guy the franchise, try to make people forget about Vick. He'll do just about anything he can to pump up Ryan publicity-wise.

This is correct, there is a segment of the population Nike needs to appeal to and they think Ryan is the guy to do it.

I'll take that bet.

;) This is nothing new. I used to collect baseball cards as a kid and every year it was the same, the rookies were hyped to the moon and you could be a 10 year veteran/multiple year all-star's rookie card (like Wade Boggs or Tony Gwynn) for less than say a Tom Gordon rookie card. You also knew that 95% of those rookie cards would end up being worthless in a few years.Once a vet is an established player and you know what you are getting, they are either a superstar (Manning, Brady, Tomlinson, etc.) or a non-superstar and no matter how good the non-super-stars may be, their marketability is almost nil unless they are in that select group. Look at Reggie Bush, if he continues to be a pedestrian RB the next year or two, he will be almost forgotten in the limelight. His stock was probably at its highest the day he was drafted.

Im rooting for him. Atlanta sure could use a posetive football story. Plus, Blank seems like a decent guy from some of the stuff I have read.

Atlanta will not forget Mike Vick. Ryan has a tough road ahead of him. I think he has more pressure than A. Rodgers.

:hifive: :lmao: :lmao:

As someone who thinks Ryan is going to be a stud QB someday, I'm glad to see that Nike is buying into him.

His rookie contract with Atlanta is ridiculous because he hasnt helped them win a single game, but the commercial contracts are all about fame. As long as Nike can put his picture up and get people to buy shoes, he's done his job. Its a simple thing when the QB is the most known player on the team. Is it fair that I'm not famous? Sure it is. I dont want fame and havent done anything to gain any.

Yeah, Atlanta fans are used to 8-8 seasons and will not put up with any of this 6-10 nonsense.
There are thousands of (former?) Atlanta Fans who loved and related to Mike Vick. They didn't care if they won games or if he killed dogs, they were still behind him 100%.

I'll be kind here, and simply call them "thugs", just as Vick is. Show me somebody wearing a Vick jersey, and I'll show you a thug.Atlanta is full of them. All the more reason Blank wants to change that culture, and fast!
