Matt Waldman: 75% chance Bridgwater falls due to racism (1 Viewer)

Kevrunner said:
Using Matt's statements, couldn't every minority person who goes in for a job interview and doesn't get hired, sue the company?
No. Anyone can sue for anything, but they wouldn't be able to use Matt's statements (unless, perhaps, they were suing Matt).

They could claim that the only reason there were not hired was because there is a 75% chance that the interviewer subconsciously penalized them solely because of their race.
1. You don't win lawsuits by claiming stuff; you win lawsuits by proving stuff.

2. That claim wouldn't survive a motion to dismiss (meaning that the plaintiff wouldn't even be given the chance to prove it) because it's nonsensical. If there's only a 75% chance, how could it be the only possible reason?

So are the Vikings racist or not? Was it subconscious and then they realized it and rectified it?

Well this is another dagger in Matt's poorly thought out argument.

Should have seen this coming, with the Vikes history of drafting black QB's, and all. Making a statement, no doubt. :P

Shame we're going to miss out on Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and other assorted clowns wield their torches and pitchforks tomorrow. Was really looking forward to all the manufactured outrage. Oh, well...

They were racists at pick 9 but not at pick 32 even though they picked a black guy at pick 9. That's okay because he's not the face of the franchise.

I would have to think the only reason Andy Dalton fell as far as he did, was because of ginger bias. Oh but wait, the Bengals took Carson Palmer, at 1.01 in 2003. Maybe they have a positive ginger bias. Careful.

Or maybe that just generally happened to be their talent levels, and largely they were drafted according to that. I should probably be careful accusing people of ginger bias, without a documented shred of evidence, even though inherent ginger bias exists in all of us whether or not we know it.

I obviously need to stop posting in this thread, frustrating me beyond measure.

Both these points point out the sheer idiocy of MWs comments. 'Nuff said.

Don't worry, you can always pop into this thread for that.

Lets not forget the Vikes tried (by reports )to trade up for Manziel. Bridgewater fell to a nice spot for him. Hope it works ,seems like a nice guy

I was hoping they'd take a QB at eight,Manziel or Bridgewater. I was disappointed when they didn't, but was thrilled they got Bridgewater after all. He was my personal top choice for QB.

It's almost round 7 and right on queue ESPN is pushing the gay agenda for Michael Sam. Who knew the NFL front offices were full of racist homophobes?

I want to be on record and say that I agree with Waldman and this thread pretty much proves his point. Lots of snarky comments in here.

So you agree with Waldman that the Vikings GM is a racist because he passed on Bridgewater in the top ten because he didn't want a dark skinned black man to be the face of the franchise?

So were the Vikings racist, or were they shrewd knowing that he would fall because other teams are racist and took advantage by getting him later?

I'll admit I wasn't paying close attention, but I don't beleive they ever raised the question of whether or not he was falling because he wash gay.

The only mention I remember was the history will be made either way because either Sam will be the first openly gay athlete drafted or he will be the first SEC Defensive player of the year not drafted. I don't think they claimed it would be because he was gay, in fact McShay actually downplayed his game and pointed out why he could struggle in the NFL.

When it looked like he wasn't getting picked, they did go into spin control and had Polian talk about how late round guys are picked due to measurables and that Michael Sam didn't have the measurables. Players with "heart" and "grit" are UDFA.

You could tell early on in the day they were 100% certain he was being drafted but got very nervous in the last hour.

White Privilege
What would you think if your 8-year-old came home and told you that “white privilege is something that white people have, meaning they have an advantage in a lot of things and they can get a job more easily”? You would have heard that at the recent 15th annual White Privilege Conference in Madison, Wisconsin, attended by 2,500 public-school teachers, administrators and students from across the nation (http://tinyurl.com/lkoqj9b).

The average parent has no idea of the devious indoctrination going on in classrooms in many public schools. What follows are some of the lessons of the conference.

In one of the workshops, “Examining White Privilege and Building Foundations for Social Justice Thinking in the Elementary Classroom,” educators Rosemary Colt and Diana Reeves told how teachers can “insert social justice, anti-racist information” into their lessons that “even little kids” can understand.

Kim Radersma, a former high-school English teacher, hosted a session titled “Stories from the front lines of education: Confessions of a white, high school English teacher.” She said that teaching is a purely political act and that neutral people should “get the f--- out of education.” (http://tinyurl.com/q5adt2d). She also explained: “Being a white person who does anti-racist work is like being an alcoholic. I will never be recovered by my alcoholism, to use the metaphor. I have to every day wake up and acknowledge that I am so deeply embedded with racist thoughts and notions and actions in my body that I have to choose every day to do anti-racist work and think in an anti-racist way” (http://tinyurl.com/q4z969q).

But the propaganda and lunacy go even deeper. Jacqueline Battalora, professor of sociology and criminal justice at Saint Xavier University, informed conference participants that “white people did not exist before 1681. Again, white people did not exist on planet earth until 1681” (http://tinyurl.com/lkoqj9b). That’s truly incredible. If Professor Battalora is correct, how are we to identify William Shakespeare (1564), Sir Isaac Newton (1642), John Locke (1632), Leonardo da Vinci (1452) and especially dear Plato (428 B.C.)? Were these men people of color, or did they not exist?

John A. Powell, a University of California, Berkeley law professor, told his audience, “And right now, I’m going to suggest to you that race is driving almost everything that’s happening in the country.” He explained the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans by saying, “They took money away from protecting the levees because the levees were protecting black people.”

Stephanie Baran’s message to conference participants was that capitalism is the cause of racism in the world today. This adjunct professor at Kankakee Community College, who calls herself a vulgar Marxist, added that racism was invented in Colonial America by white capitalists as a tool to divide labor and keep the working class in their place.

Educator Paul Kivel explained what he sees as Christian hegemony, saying, “Very simply, I define it as the everyday pervasive, deep-seated and institutionalized dominance of Christian values, Christian institutions, leaders and Christians as a group, primarily for the benefit of Christian ruling elites.”

Speaker Leonard Zeskind -- according to the MacIver Institute, which covered the event -- explained that “the longer you are in the tea party the more racist you become.” He added, “Parents put their kids in private schools because they’re racist.”

University of Iowa Professor Adrien Wing gave some of her observations about white privilege, asking, “Does having a black president change that? Has it changed that? Unfortunately, it hasn’t. ... (President Obama) ends up being the front man for the system. ... He works for the master of the system of white privilege.”

I can’t imagine people being stupid enough to believe all that was said at the White Privilege Conference. There’s something else at work. I think it’s white guilt. That’s why, for almost three decades, there has appeared on my website a certificate of amnesty and pardon that I’ve granted to Americans of European ancestry in the hope that they stop feeling guilty and stop acting like fools (http://tinyurl.com/opd8vgd).

The ultimate irony will come at next years conference when a distinguished looking fellow in tweed and grey flannel trousers gives a talk entitled "Modern day American slavery: the plight of contemporary white academia in its fight against racism and racist practices".It will take a turn for the (somewhat more) humorous when it is found that the speaker is Eddie Murphy in white face.

So did they question the 31 other GMs under oath to ascertain whether Waldman was right?

How many racists are there then? 24?

Im confused, what did the evil cabal of NFL front offices think of Mariota? Did he fall all the way to 2 because Samoan's are even more racially discriminated against?

All the tall white QBs went in the third round or later. OVERCORRECTION!!!!!!

This thread was a disaster.
You guys can pile on all you want, but the premise of the thread is to establish that waldman is not racist like you guys, and that was a resounding success#whiteknight

Still the drop of Teddy Bridgewater was a bit crazy. GMs preffered to take Johnny Football and Bortles over Teddy which looks very much like a mistake. Regardless of draft position, he should have gone at least over Manziel

I can understand Bortles (stronger arm, higher Wonderlic) but to anyone with a brain Manziel was a mess.

WASHINGTON — Of the many D.C. sports luminaries in attendance of Caps-Rangers Game 4, included was Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan.
Having met him the night before, McCloughan was asked which position in football Bryce Harper was physically best fit to play.

The twice former MLB draftee, who once hit .296 for the Hagerstown Suns, replied, “Ehhhhh, probably strong safety. But, I went to a game a couple weeks ago, and he flipped his hips and caught a fly ball out in right field in the corner, and I thought, maybe [cornerback]. But I’m thinking, uhh, okay, no, he’s gotta be a safety. He’s a white guy.”
moar racism!

This is where "all it takes is one" is important to keep in mind.

Bump.

Just wanted to know if anyone has heard Waldman talk about "indirect racism" this year with Winston going 1.01.

but Lovie is black, so I mean....
I believe Lovie being black made him overlook a lot of Winston's faults (both on and off the field).

How he could say "I'm comfortable making Jameis the face of the franchise" is mind-boggling.
Are you suggesting that it's a fault that Winston is black on and off the field?
