Mayweather vs. McGregor -- Who ya got? (1 Viewer)

1) Who would win in a boxing match, and how?

2) Who would win between 27 year-old Mayweather and 27 year-old McGregor in a boxing match?

3) Who would win in an MMA fight, standard UFC rules, if you gave Mayweather a year to train in MMA? 40 yo Mayweather, or 27 yo Mayweather.

I'm assuming the people that vote McGregor would win a boxing match are the same ones that voted they would win a UFC match against Ronda Rousey.

Let's say a professional ping pong player and a professional racecar driver were going to compete.

Which do you think would win the car race?

Which do you think would win the ping pong match?

Eagerly anticipating your opinions.
Hot take/shtick aside: I think a hypothetical peak-Mayweather (130/135 lbs, 24-27 years old, hands in good working order), given a year of MMA training, would be a contender in the UFC Bantamweight division. You'd have to teach him how to get away from all that leg-grabby stuff, but not a lot of dudes would be able to hold him off after he landed his first combination with small gloves. Trading fire with him standing up, obviously, would be an exercise in futility.

The better question is probably what level of boxer could McGregor beat?

I'm thinking he'd handle Jason Bateman's character in Teen Wolf Too pretty easily.

Imo, a world class boxer with just one years worth of training in jitsu could fight in the UFC but would not be a contender.  His game would not be nearly well-rounded enough and his weakness could be easily exploited.

Ellebre told ESPN's Dan Rafael that UFC wouldn't let one of their top stars take on an undefeated boxer.

"It's all a game. It's all a calculated effort to gain more fans. He got a boxing license. Congratulations to him. Conor McGregor can say anything he wants to but he has a boss and his name is [UFC president] Dana White. He is under contract to the UFC and if he wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match he can't because his bosses wouldn't allow that to happen. The brass [from WME-IMG] who recently purchased the UFC [for $4 billion earlier this year] are very smart people and they would never - and put this in bold caps - let him step into a boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather because everyone knows what the outcome would be. He would get his ### beat from pillar to post."

The question you all should be asking is who would win in a fight between McGreggor and John Cena...... or some other dude on the WWE card.

Thats the "fight" that's coming at WM this summer.  It's part of the payback for Lesner stepping in at UFC 200.

1. Floyd by TKO

2. Floyd by TKO

3. Conor, Conor

Neither guy has a chance against the other one in the other's sport, but Mayweather gets hurt much worse.
Pretty sure someone would have to hit him for him to get hurt.

I know a lot of people don't like Mayweather, but he's without a doubt one of the most talented boxers of all-time.

If he's cornered, he can get hit.
Conor, who's used to cutting off opponents in a large cage, can certainly corner Floyd in a smaller ring. I'd be interested in seeing how much damage he can do with big gloves.

these are stupidly obvious questions.....

McGregor would submit or knock out Floyd in the first minute of a MMA match.  He also wouldn't land more than ten punches in a boxing fight.

No pro boxer that is in any serious level of competitive fighting.

With two years of intensive, boxing-only trainer, he could be a top 20ish welterweight. But no way he ever sniffs Thurman/Pacquiao/Brook/Garcia/Spence territory. Any of those dudes would turn McGregor into a ghost.

The interesting comp to look at here is Holly Holm, who went from being an incredibly accomplished boxer (even though women's boxing's a pretty small pond) to a successful MMA fighter with a big scalp. But it took her four years to work her way up from leaving boxing to being able to take out Rousey. If yung Mayweather for some reason decided to leave gigantic piles of money behind and ply his trade in the cage, I think he would've been a contender. Figuring out takedown defense can be done with enough time, he would've been miles ahead of people in terms of his punching ability.
