The 100 Greatest movies of the 80s #1 Aliens (2 Viewers)

Tim, there's some flicks on your list I need to revisit, or see for the first time. Here's some that would make my 80's list

Gremlins
Vacation
Christmas Vacation
The Outsiders
Weird Science
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Lost Boys
The Burbs
Coming to America
Caveman
Strange Brew
Conan the Barbarian
Pale Rider
The Man from Snowy River
Hellraiser
Hellbound: Hellraiser II
Childs Play
Heartbreak Ridge
Major League
Big trouble in Little China
Police Academy
Blood Simple
Revenge of the Nerds
Highlander
Evil Dead 2
Well I have to say that some of these would have no chance with me, like Police Academy, Highlander (Suzy a terrible film!) Major League, a few others. Blood Simple is an excellent film and was on my short list.
Dude, thems fightin words! Haha

Highlander terrible??? Blasphemy!!!!!

There can only be one!!!!!

We are The Princes Of The Universe!!!!

Nice job doing the thread…..but yeah our opinions differ a lot.
Queen soundtrack..... Clancy Brown as the Kurgan! Sean Connery! I loved this movie as a kid! It spawned some bad sequels, but the original is a great 80's flick, imo

Reading through … would any of these have made anyone else’s Top 100?

Brewster’s Millions
Enemy Mine
No Man’s Land
The Wraith
The Blue Iguana

Clancy Brown
Speaking of, Bad Boys (the Sean Penn one) is one of my favorites from the decade.
When I read the Clancy Brown call-out, I was getting ready to post about the real Bad Boys … but I figured I’d go on through the rest of the page to make sure the house didn’t mention it. Sure enough :hifive:
Had to go back and edit - now that I recall, pretty sure it was an RC soda machine rather than a Shasta one. :)

Leave ROTJ off such a list? Sure. But not ESB.
look Andy, I respect you but you are out of your freaking mind
Bro. To say Empire Strikes Back isn't one of the best movies of the 80s is flat ridiculous.
None of the Star Wars films are among the best movies of any decade. Overrated silliness.
What’s next on your list for today? Kick some puppies?

What Lucas did with Industrial Light and Magic, in the original film was groundbreaking. The original trilogy has spawned an insane amount of content. I mean you can say you don't like Star Wars, that's fine, you don't have to.......but you can't deny the cultural significance. If that equates to overrated.....like I said that's just like your opinion man.

To Live and Die in L.A. is another omission.
That's up there for best movie of the decade for me. I'm refraining fronm more comments here in hopes it makes @John Maddens Lunchbox list, in which case I'll say more there.
Funny.. I just rewatched this one and it really didn't hold up for me. I remember thinking it was this brilliant neo noir, but it came across as silly and dated on rewatch.

I posted that because I saw it was available on HULU and remember loving it. I watched it again yesterday and I’d mostly agree with you. I thought there was a lot more tension- but it was mostly unnecessary car chases.

Big Trouble in Little China should have been on it. A timeless classic.
Bad *** Kurt Russell is great. Escape From New York is another classic. Snake Plissken is an excellent character name.
Call me Snake…..
As a kid I remeber seeing Kurt Russell in a bunch of Disney movies. When he was a scumbag in Used Cars and then Snake in Escape From New York, it was a jarring switch. Equivalent to a wrestling babyface turning heel.

None of the Stars Wars movies should touch a list like this. I share Bill Burr's take that you probably had to see those films as a kid, but I didn't see them until I was an adult and, like Burr, was like, "okay, next."

This is the same Bill Burr who had zero problems at all cashing a paycheck from his appearances in Star Wars Mandalorian? How about that!

If anything that’s kind of a flex for Burr. He talked **** about them and they still offered him good money to be a part of their product.

Aliens is my favorite movie so it’s great to see Tim get the number 1 spot correct. Some of his other selections are head-scratchers but it’s his list. I may not agree with the list but it is still great work and always fun to follow. Thanks Tim.
Agreed.

I bust his balls a lot….he may have me on ignore for all I know….but I like the list threads. It makes for good discussion. And it beats politics everyday of the week (so glad that was put 6 feet under around here).

Hannah and Her Sisters for the win…..

I agree with all that except for the Hannah bit. Woof.

Hannah and Her Sisters would have been a much better movie with the alien queen as a fourth sister. Shorter too.
