MB3 Owners... Do you "want" him to play this week? (1 Viewer)

Wondering what people think about Barber this week? If he plays will he still get his normal workload, or does Tashard Choice's good game against a solid Pittsburgh defense along with Barber's toe possibly create a bit of a timeshare if he plays?

As an MB3 owner, I'm thinking that I'd rather just see him sit out again so I can roll with Choice worry free. Obviously if MB3 plays I'll be starting him, but I'm kind of worried about the toe holding up.

Any other thoughts from the Shark Pool on this situation?

Pretty big assumption there. Not every Barber owner also owns Choice. :jawdrop:

One has to think that regardless of Barber's health, Choice will be sharing at least some of the load. He sure seems to have earned it after an impressive performance against the #1 defense in the league, and Barber has done well in the past splitting carries.

Choice earned some respect last week. as a Cowboys fan i'd like to see a split to keep both fresh, as we need some depth at RB down the stretch. in FF i wouldnt start MB this week if he plays.

So everyone is thinking that it's a given that if MB3 plays then his owners can count on Choice sharing some of the load? There's no way the toe will be 100% right?

Agreed. I am snubbing both this week and starting Portis and Deangelo Williams. Since I wouldnt start a healthy MBIII against the Giants there is no way I would fool with Choice this week given my other options. However if I were in the OP's boat I would go with MBIII for sure because the toe reportedly isnt what kept him out of the Steelers game it was his strained calf muscle which is doing much better. Add to that the fact that MBIII will be playing with a chip on his shoulder because the owner called him out.

I hadn't heard about the calf muscle being the problem... Interesting.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips spent the early minutes of his Monday news conference denying that the team ever questioned the toughness of RB Marion Barber, which became an issue only because owner Jerry Jones brought it up after Week 14's game at Pittsburgh. Said Phillips on Monday: "I don't want to speak for Jerry, but I don't think you question his toughness. He's one of the toughest guys we have." He also said he thinks Barber can play Week 15 against the Giants. "He's going to try and practice this week," Phillips said. "I know he's feeling better. I think he will be out there or try to be out there certainly. ... He can play without practicing, and he may have to do that this week."

(Updated 12/08/2008).Phillips said Barber was slowed more by a calf injury caused by Barber running differently to compensate for the toe problem. Jones, however, had told reporters the calf was not an issue. Phillips also said the team determined Barber couldn't play, as opposed to Barber saying he couldn't. Our feeling is that the coaching staff wanted to let Barber rest and be ready for that game and the rest of the season instead of risking further injury against the run-stuffing Steelers. We'll keep you posted on Barber's injury and whether or not he'll be able to play in Week 15, but it's not good to see an owner come out against his newly paid running back like this. If he plays, Barber is a No. 1 Fantasy RB.

I have MB3, choice and reggie bush to choose by thurs. Choice is earning respect from the coaching staff (I remember reading an article...no link...) so I'm sure he'll get a heavier load to keep both healthy for the last few games. Maybe close to 50:50 split. I'd love to play either one but since I think it'll be a RBBC I'm going to roll with bush since he'll get his in the passing game.

I think if he starts he is a good play, just not great considering these factors: coming off injury, opponent's rush D, Choice's effectiveness.

I have to choose from Barber, Bush, Chris Johnson, and Choice. I am going to with Bush and Johnson.

Lets keep in mind will all this 50/50 talk that if Batber is healthy enough to go he will recieve all 3rd down, goaline and if the Cowboys have a lead, the 4th quarter duties. Choice will be used more but as the change of pace back, like how Felix Jones was used earlier this season. All the fantasy value would lead to barber even if they did split the carries right down the middle. Unless Barber is hampered by the injury, Choice is not worth using. There is a slight risk in using Batber this week but the upside is too high. I see a lot of receptions and a couple of TD's in line for him, especially with playing with a chip on his shoulder. If Barber is read to go you have to start him. Starting someone Kevin Smith over him would be a joke, if the news is bad all week and he's questionable and expected to be limited than I would think of other options only if they were good.

Not trying to "ruin" this thread... I feel like I need to give that caveat before saying anything about Barber LOL.... anyway

Last time he played the Giants he TOTALLED 42 yards, ZERO TDs.... In the second half of the playoffs last year they shut him down...

Even if he were healthy, I'd be considering other options.

it's a completely different game with Romo at QB. The giants can't stack the box like they did last time against the cowboys. I'd see more of the barber that we saw in last years playoff game, because this is what this is for the cowboys a playoff game. Also Romo loves the check down to Barber, look up how many receptions Barber has with Romo in, and when he wasn't. If you wanna say Barber is banged up, or Choice will steal carries that's fine, but you can't use the last Giant-Cowboy game because it's clearly not the same. If Barber is healthy its very safe to assume good results.

As a Barber, Choice, LJ, Portis owner. I will be watching this thread and any other M. Barber news very carefully.

Personally I would rather see the Cowboys sit Barber until he is 100%. Unfortunately I think T. Choice has hurt the value of Barber going forward in a big way.

#1 With both a healthy Barber and Choice - I see a split in carries. Barber was more affective last year when Julius got 10-15 touches. Cowboys may go back to a 60-40 split (not quite 50/50)

#2 Cowboys can't risk further injury to Barber - so inherently I think they will be forced to spell Barber with Choice.

#3 Choice has proven he is tough - he proved he can run hard, catch the ball, and block.

If Barber starts - my greatest fear is that he will aggravate something on the first carry or realize he can't go - and Choice will immediately come in and get all the carries.

For that reason - right now I am starting Portis and LJ. If Barber is out and Choice gets all the carries - I will probaly go with Choice. (He has to get more than the 11 carries LJ got last week)

In all fairness to Barber, Brad Johnson was downright pathetic in that game so bad that Bollinger came in for a spark. Why would you leave that part out?

LBJ, MBIII, S Morris, BJGE owner here, and if he is active/starting I'm playing him over Sammy who is sharing 3 ways.

The Boys MUST have this game for any hope @ the playoffs. They're @ home and the DAL D is playing very well.

My dilemma is my playoff opponent has Choice (damn WW priority 2 weeks ago), w/ Hillis out on his team. If he doesn't play (MBIII) this will hurt x2.

Come on Marion - December is the time to suck it up and deliver. :football:

For all those that own a guy going on Thursday and Barber, what are you doing? I am going with Bush in my PPR, but would you start Pierre or anyone else or wait it out and hope Barber is the man on Sunday?

It should be noted that the Cowboys are in a win at all cost mode and I'd think if Barber is ready to go, Choice is only going to get spot duty at best. Why risk fumbles or anything else for that matter from a rookie against a tough divisional rival? I bet the Cowboys don't especially with Jones calling Barber out. MBlll may be on a mission this week to stick it to his mouthy owner.

If Barber plays, he's the man and should be started. However, he better at least have a full practice by Friday or this ship has sailed for the week for me regardless of what they say on Sunday.

Cowboys | Barber misses practice Wednesday

Dallas Cowboys RB Marion Barber III (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 10, but was in pads and worked through a rehab session on his toe. He will be a game-time decision for Week 15.

You can bet he'll play after JJ called him out this week.

I hope he plays. After seeing the Eagles rip up that defense I can't wait to see what a RB whose legs aren't about to fall off does :hophead:

 Im def starting TJones and Bush this week, but if MB3 practices Friday and is declared the starter for Sunday, Im going to start him as my flex. The last thing you want to do this time of year is sit your stud, additionally for the reason Futz mentioned. Id feel much better starting MB3 and have Choice have a solid game than start Choice, only to see MB3 have a big game on my bench

Have to start 2 between MBIII, Chris Johnson and Michael Turner in a PPR league. Leaning towards the latter two just on health. I'd hate to take a zero in the division championships.
