Marion Barber III is a great sleeper candidate for 2007. MBIII I just fell to the 3.12 spot which is the 44th overall selection in a mock draft I am in. Does anyone want to take a shot at projecting his numbers for 2007.

Here is my guess:

1145 yards rushing

16 rushing tds

33 receptions

212 yards receiving

16 rushing tds is a tiny bit high. Remember it has not been ruled that he will not be sharing carries with JJ again this year.

Barber is best when used as a rotation back, I just don't see him as a full-time guy who can sustain the same success over 20+ carries.

He hasn't really gotten an opportunity to show if he can or cannot succeed long-term as a 20+ carry a game RB in my opinion. He's only had two such games thus far in his career, both in 2005:22-95-027-127-2Obviously that's an extremely small sample size but he was terrific in those two games. Breaking it down a little further, here are his games when given 15+ carries (excluding the two games above):2006 16-83-0 (2 receiving TDs)2005 15-53-2 15-82-0 (32 receiving yards) That's five games total and from a fantasy perspective he was a standout in four (the one poor rushing yardage game offset by the two TDs) and no worse than good in all five.

This seems TD heavy to me, although I can see how you got there looking at last year's numbers. You didn't mention it, but based on your totals, you seem to believe MBIII has displaced JJ as the starting RB. That seems unresolved, and projecting his role is further complicated by the change in coaching staff. I can understand MBIII falling to where he did in your mock based upon that uncertainty. If there was a report somewhere proclaiming him the primary RB in Dallas, he'd certainly go higher. MBIII remains one of the toughest guys to project heading into 2007, IMHO. I'm holding off on my own projection until his role becomes more clear, but I am a big MBIII fan. If he is named primary ball carrier, your projections don't seem unreasonable.

I'm just going on my own opinion...he has skills and is a good runner...I don't see him as a clear cut #1 RB on Dallas...a lot of his TDS were 1 yard plunges....the stats look great...but I'd like to see him stand up to 275 carries and then see the production.BTW, I like Barber.
