McClure's BBQ (4 Viewers)

I've had a recurring dream basically since I started my first pop up dinners back in 2011. The dream usually includes me escaping with my whole family from a looming hurricane in the gulf....a hurricane that utterly destroys New Orleans about a week after I open my restaurant.

I've been following this for a couple of days now....I generally don't worry too much until they pass Jamaica, but its track continues to stay south of the big islands which is usually bad for the gulf coast. I know its early....but can anybody blame me for being a little fatalistic?

I need medication...but please don't think I don't see some of the humor in all of this.
No way this hit USA. Wind shear in the islands will obliterate it. Won't even be a fart by the time it hits cancun.

Yeah it has to pass through a lot of dry air. Probably just some rain when it gets here.

can you get insurance prior to opening?

Dear Tipsy, I just consulted with our meterology department, yes we have a large one.

They said no chance that storm developes into anything that will do anything to New Orleans.

Our guys are really good, so take that to the bank imo.

If it goes south there may be other options....one of my best friends is about to jump in the fray and has mad connections at city hall. I haven't asked for his help for a bunch of reasons...all of which seem really stupid now. Boils down to not wanting to do things the old boy network way ......or risk my friends standing with politicos in city hall....but he wants to help and will if this call sucks this morning.
Best wishes sent your way.

I am glad you are now taking advantage of a little of the karmic capital you have amassed in your life. I see it over and over again - good, decent people failing to take advantage of the same kinds of connections and opportunities that less virtuous people have exploited for generations. If you have someone in a position to help you, then ask them to help. In almost every instance they will be flattered that you asked, and be happy to lend assistance. If they aren't, they won't do it - and you've lost nothing.

People like to do favors for other people. In exchange, some day - and that day may never come - this buddy will call upon you to do a service for him. Hopefully it will be to cater his daughter's engagement party, and not to chop up a dead body and hide it in the brisket. But when that day comes, you'll be happy to do him a favor.

Also, tropical storm Dorian is weak and dying.

VI works for a pretty big company that definitely has a major meteorology dept.

Plus VI knows stuff.

Looks like you picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue...

Seriously GBNMc... it'll all work itself out. Stay positive.

What's the point of having connections if not to use them at the most critical of times? You're wise to not call in a favor for the minor stuff. This no longer sounds like minor stuff.

Jeez. What a mess. Damon faced a fight with neighbors as well. Not to be a downer, but if I were fighting a restaurant opening in my neighborhood I'd probably wait to the last minute too with the hope that they had no budget left to defend themselves. At the same time, it's ridiculous that there is no "date of complaint" statue where permits are publicly acknowledged and only so many days are avialble to protest thjen you are SOL.

hang in there GBTM.
"Statute"

"What?"

"Date of complain statute. It's not a statue."

"No, it's statue."

"Fine. It's a sculpture of date of complaint."

In law school, there was a guy who was convinced there was a statue of frogs somewhere. For about a week.

This thing makes me more mad than it should be and I have 0 invested in this. Seriously, what is the issue with these parking lot spots? I assume now on second look it's the 3 spots behind your structure that serve what appears to be 3 residences to your side and behind. Is the survey in dispute and you are now using one of these spots for your setup? I don't get it.

"I don't get it"

The motto of the city of New Orleans

This.

Pivotal moment in your life and the guy is volunteering to stand behind you. I respect the drive to do it the "right way"... but with what you've got at stake, you pull out all the stops to be sure you can simply do it at all.

We have been given a temporary permit to operate!!!! Open Sunday night @ 6 pm.

my updates will probably be sporadic for a bit here....ill post when i can

How about sending a peace offering of your finest meats to the pesky neighbors?

Or

You could "accidentally" destroy their digestive systems...

I'd go door to door and snap photos of each person that answers the door, then I'd make a montage of their faces and names along with the story of them trying to stop you from opening. Then I'd hang it behind the register as "86'd" from the restaurant.

But I'm an #######

Take lots of photos. Social media demand it. This is key. One of your friends has to be handy with a camera and would lend a hand to document the process of opening.

And take a short video of you hiding a $100 bill in one BBQ pork sammich, then make a "shhh" gesture.

Have you given any thought to having a friend come in and take pictures for you on opening night? Could make for some really cool keepsakes for you as I imagine you'll be so caught up in the swirl that it'll be a bit of a blur for you
