I don't blame you at allwe may have sounded like we were gloating...but it was an unreal 2 weeks and that day in particular. we were more astounded that we could have run out again. and when I greeted her with the brisket/butts only speech it was to keep them from deciding an order before they knew those things had run out....
She also gave the joint a bad review. clearly she is an entitled busybody female dog. I should be more quiet about "gloating" or being so cocksure.... Maybe she also needs to notice when it is complete happiness mixed with exhaustion.
But...ill never engage that stuff on yelp.
I flagged her review and told her to try McDonalds next time.

Tipsy: "Yeeaaa, about"
JoeT: "K, lemme get one"

She's got a 1,000 word review, only one sentence of which describes the BBQ itself. If anyone is "portly" and "self-important," I have a feeling it is Cinnamon.

I was so annoyed by that "review." After reading through this thread and knowing how well-liked and respected you are by customers all over New Orleans, I felt like her dog #### conjecture was way out of line. I wanted to hack Yelp and delete it. Hopefully, everyone reading that will blow it off for what it is in light of the other reviews, if it causes one fewer person to eat at your place after all the BS you went through to get it open, I'll hunt that ##### down and sew her ### to her face.man...wow. Hopefully you won't end up in the news when I sew her ### to her face. It could have been a fan of any one of the apparently myriad restaurants she's crapped on on Yelp.most readers of yelp know a troll when they see it. don't worry about flagging these guys. last thing i need is to be in the news for how my yelp page is combative & such. let slepping dogs lie.
oh well. butter late than neverWish I could have the shirt this week. Picture of me wearing it in front of the butter cow at the state fair would have been pretty sweet...

It's probably the first of many. Yelp reviews are really wild for the highly rated places - everyone wants to be a critic and let you know that they know all that about food. A couple of my favorite restaurants that I've had some really awesome meals at get crappy critical reviews over the minute things(My favorite #####ers are for Mama Fish House in Maui complaining about the prices - in Maui). I think some people try to gain some kind of satisfaction being an armchair restaurant critic. If there are enough 5 star then you know it's ok to ignore the idiots posting 1/2 star - the places that always get 2/3 are the ones that I tend to stay away from if possible.most readers of yelp know a troll when they see it. don't worry about flagging these guys. last thing i need is to be in the news for how my yelp page is combative & such. let slepping dogs lie.

so, when looking for a restaurant to eat at, you don't see the point of learning about other people's experiences?Never been on Yelp don't see the point.
I agree with NCC. Most of the reviews on Yelp seem fake to me...so, when looking for a restaurant to eat at, you don't see the point of learning about other people's experiences?Never been on Yelp don't see the point.

I don't know those people so I don't really care what they think. In my experience in general people think because they eat at restaurants they know something about how they should be run or how food should be prepared, they don't. That's a big part of why so many restaurants fail. Further once you give someone a megaphone they feel the need to use it whether they should or not. And most folks shouldn't. I have no problem going in blind and making my own assessment that's half the fun to me. As someone who has spent years in the biz I have a pretty good feel for what I am getting into when I walk in. I rarely steer myself wrong. And I will listen to people I actually know and have a feel for what they like and what they are going to not like.so, when looking for a restaurant to eat at, you don't see the point of learning about other people's experiences?Never been on Yelp don't see the point.
I would rather ask you guys. I am going to get better tips IMO and the shtick is just the cherry on top. And I kind of know you. I have some idea whether or not I should trust your opinions. I don't know that about cinnamon buns 143.I find the Monocle feature on Yelp to be extremely helpful when traveling to major cities and want to grab a bite nearby.
Does this include all the reviews from FBG posters for McClures that have never been there?regardless of whether you think Yelp is a good source for valid/honest reviews of various businesses, saying you "don't see the point" in a website that intends to collect and organize those reviews in a useful way is strange to me.
I guess the alternative is to try every restaurant yourself and go back to the ones you like. Never listen to anyone's recommendations or advice either, b/c what would be the point
Actually I'm pro-Yelp, I use it. I was just pointing out that there has been some tomfoolery with the McClure's reviews as well and my sense was that Abe's wasn't the only review of that sort. So maybe I picked the wrong post to quote to point it out.Other than Abe,who has posted fake reviews?
And the whole point of statistics is separating the signal from the noise. The more reviews a place has, the less important fake or clearly biased reviews have.
If you think a restaurant sounds great but find hundreds of negative reviews on Yelp, would you still go?
I hear you, I just don't recall going to a restaurant and being told they're out of food. I'd be really confused, and wondering if they had their crap together. I'm talking everything up to high end restaurants. Is this a southern thing? I mean, I've been there when a particular special is out, but the rest of the menu is still available and it's not a big deal. But to be out of food??Those Disney wives sound pretty fun.
Otis, this isn't Dominos. The food takes a long time to cook. Maybe if more of these slackers skipped lunch like you, there would be enough to feed everybody at dinnertime.
it's a BBQ thing. Anyplace that's any good is going to cook the food slow over low temps so it takes a ton of time. If you're not cooking to order, it's easy to run out when the demand is sufficiently high.I hear you, I just don't recall going to a restaurant and being told they're out of food. Aren't you setting yourself up to lose customers if this happens regularly? (not just the day's customers, but others who may be annoyed at the inconvenience?)
I get the cool factor of coming away impressed that the place is so good it ran out of food. Still just strikes me as odd.
Carry on.
My pretty much elderly mom has become an insane person. She attempts to get free food every time she goes out to eat by complaining. It's to the point where my sister (they are all back east) refuses to go out with her anymore.I'm a big fan of the yelp reviews for fast food joints. "The mcnuggets were very succulent and cooked to a perfect golden brown.."
