McFadden: Hold or Sell? (1 Viewer)

OK, someone please explain to me how this makes senseThey drafted McFadden #5 overall thinking he could be a feature back and an explosive playmaker, after drafting Bush a year earlier. This season he finally gets completely healthy and performs as well as any back in the league, far surpassing anything Bush has ever done with the team, healthy or not.So, why on earth would this team limit mcFadden's touches to give them to Bush, when McFadden has performed as well as any back in the league thus far?
you are forgetting one thing:This is the Raiders and their coach will do what he wants. The right move is for them to Start McFadden. I'm just not sure they will do it.

According to this from Monday, it looks like McFadden will be out again this weekend:

Darren McFadden-RB- Raiders Oct. 11 - 6:12 pm et Vittorio Tafur of the SF Chronicle doesn't expect Darren McFadden (hamstring) to play this week.Tafur attends Raiders practices daily and listened to Tom Cable's press conference Monday, so he's got the inside track on injury situations. Cable didn't rule out McFadden during Monday's discussions, but Michael Bush looks set up for another monster workload in Week 6 at San Francisco. Among all NFL backs in Week 5, only Ray Rice got more touches than Bush.Source: Vittorio Tafur on Twitter

Yayyyyy!!!

McFadden returns to Raiders practice field Darren McFadden (hamstring) returned to Raiders practice Wednesday. The extent of McFadden's participation is unknown as of yet, but it's obviously a good sign for his chances of returning sooner rather than later. Michael Bush owners shouldn't be so sure that their back will get the bulk of the workload in Sunday's game against the 49ers. Monitor the situation through the week. Hamstring injuries are unpredictable, so it would be promising for McFadden's chances of playing if he's able to practice on Thursday. Oct. 13 - 4:14 pm etSource: Vittorio Tafur on Twitter

Most of us who drafted DMC in redraft drafted him because Bush was out week 1 with the prospect of him sitting a month a more, as of draft day. We got lucky as his production was off the charts. Bush has been healthy the last 2 weeks and was #2 OAK RB based on DMC production. They drafted this kid high, he finally came into his own, DON'T GIVE HIM UP NOW, UNLESS SOMEONE OFFERS YOU A RIDICULOUS DEAL. Sometimes it's best to keep your players who are perfoming.
Actually, Bush was not "healthy." He was testing out how his thumb would hold up, and that, coupled with McFadden's success, is why he was limited those 2 weeks. Now, using that same logic, if Bush is successful, it would make sense for the Raiders to limit McFadden until they are sure his hammy is healed. I wouldn't just give McFadden away, but to suggest that his performance kept a 100% healthy Bush on the bench is just false.
Definetly don't give him away. It looks like either one is going to be a stud if they are getting the carries.

If McFadden didn't get hurt I think it would have been like 80/20 or 70/30 touches. Since he got hurt and since Bush looked good I say, why would OAK rush McFadden Back? They should sit him until Bush is banged up or injured and needs some time off.

I would much rather a RB rotation every few weeks than a weekly 50/50 split that takes both RBs out of their rhythm and kills any FF value

Sounds like it Bush job to lose now. Could go back and forth all season.

Coach Tom Cable confirmed Wednesday that Michael Bush will retain the Raiders' starting tailback job with Darren McFadden (hamstring) due back in Week 6 against San Francisco.

Cable expects McFadden to be active against the Niners, but only as Bush's backup "since McFadden's not 100 percent." The Raiders entered the season planning to rely on a true feature back, and have stuck to their guns to this point. Coming off an upset win over San Diego in which Bush generated 135 yards and a touchdown, it'd be illogical to upset the flow of the backfield. Expect 20-plus touches again for Bush in Week 6. He could formally pass McFadden on the depth chart with another big game and Raiders win.

I own Bush, and I just don't see how they keep DMC from touching the ball plenty once healthy. Injured, that's a different story. Healthy, both will have a role, IMO, regardless of the coach speak.

Exactly. I still don't believe DMC will be Bush's backup when healthy. Keep in mind DMC was really productive before his injury. They're not paying DMC first rd money just to sit on the bench.Anyways, Michael Bush is a free agent next year. I'm sure they want to see if DMC could handle the load. Once DMC is healthy, Bush to GB could be a possibility for a late rd draft pick.

This is one of the biggest FF misconceptions out there. It doesn't happen. Teams don't just see if a guy "can handle the load" by giving him PT. He demonstrates the ability to earn PT in practice, and then he demonstrates the ability to "carry the load" after he has earned the PT.Furthermore, I think if they did want to see of McFadden could "carry the load," his inability to do so for the last 2+ years would have already answered the question.

As for the Bush to GB idea, that's great, but McFadden would have to get healthy REALLY Quick since the trade deadline is next Tuesday.

I think the only thing here relevant is the part quoted from Cable...."since McFadden's not 100 percent". The rest is speculation.

I have Both, it seems like this week Bush is a better play, based on McFadden coming off a hammy, and Bush's game VS SD. I know nothing, just my $.02.

This. Bush was nothing but a backup to McFadden when he was coming back from injury, too. I've got Bush in one league and McFadden in another, so I don't really have a horse in this race--or rather, I've got both--and I see Bush fully passing McFadden as extremely unlikely at this point. The 60/40 3rd down/short yardage split seems too smart not to be what they do...then again, they're the Raiders.

They've been trying to see if McFadden can carry the load for the past several years. He's broken down every year so obviously the answer is no. This is set up to be a RBBC. It makes too much sense in "real world" football for it not to happen. <insert some Raiders are dumb comment here>

Gotta love bitter Bush owners. Hey, you have this week, enjoy it. It goes back to the way it was once DMC is healthy. You can count on it. Sorry.
Gotta love delusional, in denial McFadden owners. Hey, you had your time, hope you enjoyed it. Bush is going to be the main RB now. You can count on it. Sorry. See, I can do that too. Just because you typed something on a message board, doesn't make it true. The fact is that Bush has a chance for this week (and probably at least next week) to be successful. The more successful he is, the more likely it will be that McFadden is given longer to heal. If Bush is successful, it will be a RBBC when McFadden is back. If Bush isn't than McFadden could continue to get the lion's share of the carries. It will be determined by what happens on the field, not by what some delusional "road warrior" posts on a MB.
Figured this deserved a bump. Nice call 'hawk'. :lmao:
