McFadden's Long-term Value? (1 Viewer)

I think he has the physical ability to be a top 5 RB in the NFL for a long time.

But the Raiders' incompetence as an organization (giving Fargas so many carries over him as just 1 example) have me a little concerned about what type of player he'll become.

How do y'all view him in keeper leagues?

mcfadden's value is tied to the emergence of russell as a legit QB. mcfadden gets lined up all over the field, i think. now that he's had a full season under his belt i think he will be more prepared and effective going into 2009.

If he gets past the toe thing and proves durable enough to handle a season I would expect him to be a top 10 rb in ppr leagues whether the Raiders stay the way they are or not. If the Raiders improve he can be top 5.

Non-PPR league here. I trade kevin Smith for him when McFadden was still out with the turf toes. I'm hoping he finishes strong next week, that he gets hyped as a sleeper for 2009 (he's a talent, but was injured....), and I trade him away for an established vet that is undervalued.

RB's don't really get over turf toe, and mcfadden has it on both feet. a speed guy with bad feet doesn't sound great for his dynasty value in my opinion. and Fargas is legit RB. he is a good north/south between the tackles guy. mcfadden is good in space but the raiders don't have anyone who can get him in the ball out in space

Yes, turf toe is something that can re-occur, but by adding a metal plate stiffening his shoes, and by taping his toes...McFadden owners shouldn't worry about the injury. His dynasty value is low and he's a perfect buy low, specially in PPR leagues. He's slowing becoming more and more involved in the offense. I"m happy they eased him back in after the turf toe injuries.

I understand the Raiders wanted a veteran RB to help protect Russell this season but they screwed themselves with the Fargas contract. They made an attempt to trade Fargas or Bell before the deadline but that was hopeful thinking. Nobody is going to trade a decent pick for Fargas with his contract. Oakland wants to and would be wise to keep Bell but dont be surprised if he's traded this upcomeing draft. The business side of the NFL says they should either cut Fargas or trade Bell by next season. Not that Al Davis has been makeing the best business decisions recently. I'd like to see them part with Fargas as Bell is a better compliment to McFadden, younger, and cheaper in the near term.

I expect McFadden to take over as the starter next year provided he's healthy. This year the strategy was focusing on Russell's developement and that meant more of Fargas than McFadden. That's a big part of why Fargas was paid as well as his 2007 performance. Hopefully Russell takes a big leap in next year's training camp which is really only Russell's second. I see a committee approach at least until Russell proves he can convert third downs and scare defenses.

I don't like to deal in absolutes, but I really don't touch any players on the Raiders now because I figure they will never produce because of how poorly the organization is run. Without quality people in the front office, I just don't think the players will be put in a position to do well.

And this applies directly to McFadden.

Well, I'm a hug believer in McFadden's talent, he just seems like an excellent playmaker, even with turf toe. He's only going to be healthier and have another year of experience next season which will likely result in a much bigger role.

As of now I have him around 15th in a dynasty league, but his ceiling is FAR higher than that.

I don't think you have watched any Raider games for the last two years.
