McGahee Discussion (1 Viewer)

Week 1 recap: McGahee performed reasonably well in his first start for the Ravens, though his owners were likely expecting better production given the propensity of the Bengals defense to surrender lots of yards on the ground. The Bengals attacked the line of scrimmage all night, and the average Ravens offensive line frequently did not have an answer. McGahee was stuffed for two yards or less on eight of his 19 carries, but he did make some nice gains when he was able to escape initial contact. His involvement in the passing game was limited to three receptions in the third quarter, largely because he was forced to stay in pass protection for much of the game to protect McNair from the ferocious Ravens pass rush. One of McNair's fumbles was partly McGahee's fault, as the running back apparently forgot to receive the handoff on a first quarter sweep. '

I just have some random thoughts. Anyone care to answer them or discuss?

First, I am unsure McNair was getting rushed by the Ravens. Maybe its just me... but I am going out on a limb and say the Bengals had the ferocious pass rush. :lmao:

Musa Smith looked GOOD. I hate to admit it, but he looked better then McGahee at times during the game, he hit the hole fast made some good yardage and the TD run was really nice. This concerns me a little as a McGahee owner. QUESTION: How much playing time is Smith/Anderson going to dig into McGahees Time?

Now McGahee was supposed to be worked into the passing game... why was it that more then 75% of the time, Smith was in on 3rd down...? QUESTION: Who truly is the 3rd down back?

Mr. Genius Billick... Why would you pass on 2nd down and goal with about a minute on the clock with your backup QB? This right after a good 4-5 yard gain by McGahee as I remember. Yeah Im ticked that McGahee didnt get anymore opportunities, BUT as a football fan, I have to say, that was a horrible play call. If they would of scored, it would of left the Bengals with 2 TO and about 40-50 seconds to get into scoring range. Even just 2 runs in a row would fo widdled the clock down enough for 2 pass plays to try and score. The fact of the matter is, Football 101 says RUN RUN RUN RUN.QUESTION: Anyone have any good reason WHY a pass play was called? Why did he go fancy with BOLLER?

And the Fumble was absolutely 100% McNairs fault. It was the ONLY thing he needed to do for the play, get the ball into McGahee's basket. He was slow and didnt get there in time. McNairs fault 100% IMO.

Anyways just some thoughts and questions...

Willis McGahee is the best running back in football. If you don't believe me, just ask him.

PS - I also thought Musa looked like the better RB when given the chance.
