There are two simple, immutable facts about T.O. Anyone who argues either is deluded...
1) T.O. is one of the, if not the, best receivers in football. when all is said and done, he's likely one of the 10 best WRs to ever play the game. He is an impact player in every sense of the word, a game-changer, the ultimate weapon. Any team would be lucky to have his skills.
2) T.O. is a petulant child who isnt afraid to speak his mind. These comments are what fuels the media and fan franzy. TO isnt trying to get into the spotlight, it is that his opinion infuriates a lot of people and the media propigates this as much as it can.

Please. You are hysterical in your support for this behavior. When he ran out to midfield and struck the Christ pose in Dallas, was that the media drawing attention to TO, or was he doing it himself? Did the media force him to deride Jeff Garcia for a lack of arm strength? Did they force him to question Garcia's sexuality?Speaking one's mind is fine, but coming out and openly criticizing team leaders in the press is counterproductive. You can't argue that, and you can't excuse it. Taking potshots at your QB is absurd....he's hurting the team by doing this. He's causing distractions by trying to angle for more money when he just signed a huge contract with the team, AND they've made it clear they don't renegotiate after 1 season.
The guy is a great player, and I understand your man-love for what he does on the field. Why you continue to excuse his behavior off of it is bewildering to me. It's not like this is an isolated incident - it's the latest in a LONG string of events surrounding this guy. The way you make it sound like he's persecuted is funny as hell - like the media just picked his name out of a hat and decided to make him look foolish as often as possible....
If TO screams in the forrest and their isnt a microphone to record it, do we boil at the words he speaks?TO speaking his mind is a trainwreck. I am not doubting that. However, I would argue that his intent is not to "gain spotlight", but it is simply him answering pointed question by the media. Again, he is not making these comments with the intent that he enjoys the spotlight, making his teammates feel bad, or to humiliate ex-teammates. I truly feel that deep down TO thinks people care about what he says. Honestly, I do care. However, most people dont. Most people simply love to hate him, hence the feeding frenzy when he speaks his mind.
The only point I am trying to argue is that I dont feel TO makes these comments with the intent SportsCenter and all the reporters talking about him on a daily basis. Do you see my point?
JAA
I understand your point. I'm not even trying to make a case that Owens is constantly trying to thrust himself into the limelight. What the guy fails to grasp is that when you say the things he says into an ESPN microphone - yeah, it's going to be broadcast across the nation. If he wants to go out into the middle of the woods and call Jeff Garcia #### 1000 times, let him. It doesn't hurt anyone. However, saying it once into a reporter's tape recorder is going to make it a national headline. Either Owens doesn't care about the effects of his statements, or he's too dumb or naive to grasp the fact that if you say these things in public, the word is going to travel.Furthermore, no one in the media forced him to make backhanded comments about McNabb. No one in the media forced him to go to the Eagles brass and demand more money when he KNOWS it's in direct opposition with team policy and likely to cause a distraction in the locker room. These are the actions that are possible or even likely to have a negative effect on his team. So, which is it? Does the guy realize this and not care? If so, he's a cancer. Or does he not even understand these basic concepts? If this is the case, he's a dolt.
Self-serving tool or naive moron? You make the call...... Again, I don't doubt the guy's talent and drive. To come back and do what he did in the Super Bowl was remarkable and deserves to be lauded. The thing that boggles my mind is that he was in position to be a god in Philadelphia after that, and now he's systematically destroying all that good will and turning himself from hero to toolbox right before our eyes....
