McNabb to be benched? (1 Viewer)

McNabb is benched, it is all but comfirmed by Shanny.

Rotoworld:

Kelli Johnson of CSN Washington is reporting that Rex Grossman will start over Donovan McNabb at Dallas on Sunday. The Washington Post confirms the report.

Per Johnson, the Redskins' locker room is divided and some players are "extremely upset." Essentially, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan lied through his teeth Thursday when he denied that Grossman's snaps have increased. Kyle has never been won over by McNabb, bothered by his scattershot accuracy and uneven grip on the offense. While that is understandable, it's unfathomable to us that the Shanahans believe Grossman gives their team a better chance to win. Quite simply, he doesn't.

So wtf do we do, I've got Moss, but now his situation seems pretty bad. I hate Shanahan. How about you guys, are you benching Moss, Cooley?
I've lived through quite a bit of Grossman. I'm not going to tell you Grossman can't throw or that he doesn't have a decent chance of connecting deep with Santana Moss. When he was in his heyday as the Bears starter, he did throw a decent deep ball. But his only throw is a go-route down the sideline and I wonder if he even still has what little accuracy he had then. It faded early and never came back. Also, he literally melts under pressure. He is worse at that than any other starting QB I have seen (which is why he is no longer a starter). Think Alex Smith at his worst, but much worse than that. Once he gets the least bit frazzled the ball will start coming out in fumbles, botched snaps, interceptions, you name it.

Shanahan, whatever his reasoning, is not an idiot and knows Rex sucks. I don't understand the move but I think it is tanking for a high pick to get a franchise QB. But he'll keep the game plan simple, and Dallas will stack the box. I can't imagine Shanahan using him as a passer to do anything but keep the D somewhat honest.

So much for playing Torrain over Forte
I had made the exact same roster move in my flex spot...but now I think I have to change it back. But then again Dallas hasn't been stopping a lot lately either and Torain will still get plenty of chances. Arghhhh. Decisions Decisions!

I have no idea what I'm going to do with Cooley. There isn't a better option available in my league. On the one hand, maybe Grossman will check down to Cooley more and maybe Cooley asking for more targets will help him. On the other hand, Grossman is horrible so 10 targets for Cooley won't mean squat if Grossman only throws the ball near him twice.

If you have to start anyone in the passing game Cooley is probably the guy, Bears never had any wide outs. Dez Clark & Greg Olsen caught a lot of the passes Grossman completed. The linebackers will probably be susceptible to play action or blitzing a lot of the time.

Personally I think the Boys stack the box and Cooley has a very mediocre day. They will probably dare Grossman to beat them with the deep ball, knowing that any deep ball he throws is 50-50 for a pick. If I played anyone in the Washington passing game (really risky) I'd go with Moss.

Earlier this week:

Shanahan said McNabb’s recent play has been “up and down. It was good last week and I thought [the final drive] was one of his best drives of the year.”

Also, he literally melts under pressure.
I have never witnessed anyone "literally" melt under pressure. That is some feat. CBS is saying McNabb will be the inactive QB 3 for the rest of the season. What a disaster.
Wow!I wonder what McNabb did to deserve to be the emergency QB? They must be tanking on purpose trying to move up the draft board. Can't imagine Skeletor returning. What a hot mess!

Hot mess is right. ;) From :CBS
Donovan McNabb, QB WASNews: Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Friday afternoon that QB Donovan McNabb will be the inactive No. 3 Fantasy QB for the rest of the season. Rex Grossman will start in his place in Week 15 against the Cowboys.

Is this the consensus from the WAS homers? I haven't been able to watch much WAS football, so I'm trying to decide if Moss is worth the start in PPR. I gotta think, yes, since he's their possession receiver and with the box stacked, I doubt there is a lot of room for Cooley to get open.Or I could just be having wishful thinking :goodposting:

I'm pretty sure Dallas was going to stack the box regardless of who was starting at qb. I expect Moss and Cooley to be #1 and #2 in targets. JMO.

Anything is possible but it's more wishful thinking IMO. Rex is a potential disaster. I have no idea why he would start over McNabb, I have to question Shanny here. I already wanted Dalls to win bad after the crap that started this entire season off, a Week 1 loss in Washington where Dallas dominated. Now that they're putting in Grossman and benching McNabb, I hope they get killed and Shanny is questioned about it. I don't know, seems like the dude has lost his touch.

I expect Dallas to put extreme pressure on Grossman all game in order to force turnovers. And anyone who watched him in preseason games can tell that it will work. Dallas will just leave their secondary in single coverage, try to stop the run and pressure Grossman, and figure that they'll get more points off his turnovers than they'll give up on some random bombs.

Seriously, did anyone watch Grossman this preseason? He was putting the ball all over the place.

Shanahan said McNabb will be QB2 this week, and then QB3 for the last 2 games.

Hopefully they stack the box and stop the run better than what they did last week against Philly. Not sure why the Cowboys are happy about Rex starting? He might not even need to throw a pass....
