MEMO vs. Indy D (1 Viewer)

I know what the numbers say for the year but after watching the Pats/Indy game last week I'm not so sure that Indy rush D is as bad as the cumulative totals for the year show. I see they gave up 140 yard on 32 carries to 3 backs and Cassel from NE. After watching that game it seemed like the run D had improved and Saunders looked healthy for Indy.

I look for Indy to load up against the run and try to let a banged up Big Ben or Leftwich try and beat them.

FBGs updated cheatsheets are very high one MeMo this week so it has me thinking about plugging him in but something in my gut says that Indy's D has shored itself up.

Any thoughts?

Sanders radically improves that run defense. Unfortunately for the Colts, the Steelers are a juggernaut of a run team - better than the Pats as a team and much, much, better than the Pats at getting one guy off.

If the three-headed Pats were a one-headed plus supporting cast, I am confident that the one feature back would have had around 100 rushing and 1 or 2 TDs last week. That's what we can reasonably expect from MeMo. Combining the Steelers ability in the run game with MeMo's potential to scoop up most of the RB receiving numbers, he is easily a top-10 RB prospect this week, despite a "shored up" Indy D.

Re: stacking the run - teams have been doing that for wereks and the Steelers run game still prospers. Finally, either of Big Ben or Leftwich will do well against 8 in the box. Those receivers are tremendous and will keep Sanders' attention away from the LOS. In fact, I think that is what made the Pats run game so successful last week - distractin Sanders in pass coverage against good receivers like Welker and Moss. I see more of the same this week - the Colts can pick their poison,. They WILL be beat either short or downfield - I have the feeling that, once again., they will hope to keep everything in front of them short, hope to stick around, and hope to win a close game. Is an injured Big ben or Leftwich much of a drop from Cassell? I don't think they are.

At least that's how I see it.

this is a bad match up if Lefty plays... he is not like Indy has played against him before... they know Lefty a lot better than they know been. If Ben plays... Moorewill be top 10 this week

THIS Indy team doesn't know Leftwich in a Steeler uniform. Last time they saw him was the third week of 2006 - on a completely different offense. And Leftwich played well against Indy three of the last four times he played them. Also, FWIW, in 2004, Leftwich threw for 600+/3/1 in his two games against Indy and he was efficient in 2005 (177/2/1 on 69.5% passing). Not sure that Leftwich behind center matters diddly or squat to how Indy plays defense - like I said, Leftwich is not a step down from Cassell.

If the Colts can play the run just a little bit, Leftwich's insanely long wind up should enable the Colts to pressure him.

 As I recall, Lefty was sort of a Colt killer, more often than not.

Steelers just dropped Davenport, so they go into the game with Moore and Russell as their only RBs. Sounds like lots of touches for Mewelde.

Steelers release Davenport

TRIBUNE-REVIEW

The Steelers have released veteran running back Najeh Davenport and promoted rookie linebacker Donovan Woods to their 53-man roster.

Davenport played in four games this season and averaged 21.7 yards on 10 kickoff returns. He also gained five yards on two carries.

The Steelers had re-signed Davenport after injuries decimated the team's running back corps in late September. The Steelers could be thin at running back Sunday when they host the Colts.

If Willie Parker does not play because of a bad shoulder -- he is officially listed as doubtful for the 4:15 p.m. game -- the Steelers will have just two running backs on their 45-man game day roster, Mewelde Moore and Gary Russell. Fullback Carey Davis, though, can also play running back.

 ;) I tried to trade MeMo last week to the FWP owner (along w/ Cotchery) for Slaton and he said no thanks. Kinda glad, right now at least, that he did refuse it!

Yeah I know what you mean, I have an offer out to me Eddie Royal for Mewelde Moore (I have moore). I am considering it but it's hard for Moore owners not to think that Parker is going to be in and out of the lineup for the rest of the year.

Right, but you answered his question in your first sentence. He's asking if the Indy D is as bad now as it was earlier in the year, and you answrerd correctly that it is slightly improved mainly due to the return of Bob Sanders. That doesn't make M. Moore a bad play nor does it not make it even a solid play just makes Indy D better versus the run compared to the start of the season.
