Men's Undershirts (1 Viewer)

Some of the new fabrics that are anti-microbial, thin, and quick-drying make amazing undergarments.  There really is no use for cotton anymore.  The new fabrics have all the benefits and none of the shortcomings (at least in this area).

You guys all work at Pierce & Pierce or something?
I had to look that up 😆

At some point this just seems like common sense.  White discolors fast and cotton frays.  The purpose of an undershirt is to act as a layer to protect your collared shirt.  What’s the point of wearing a nice collared shirt and having your undershirt showing prominently?

It's no different than wearing baggy pants and showing off your tighty-whiteys?

I don’t think it’s good at all.  Much better to use v-neck.  Matching color is better than white though.
Totally agree. If I had to put qualifiers, you should never see an undershirt when wearing a button-down dress shirt for professional/more formal attire. With more informal/biz casual look, more acceptable to me to see an undershirt, but you don't want that jarring white T offsetting the color of the shirt you have on -- way better to match in those cases.

Love that book and movie, but the reference wasn't recognizable and had to Google as well.

It has its own LinkedIn page, lol.

Kirkland brand from Costco is the best I've found. Nice collar and quality material. I wear a white undershirt almost every day to work. I've had these shirts last me 1-2 years (50+ times worn/washed)

I’ll second this, except substitute the crew neck for v-neck.

Problem is that undershirts are cheap and crappy. They are born to fail.

I pay a little more for a T-shirt and they hold up much better. A little heavier than an undershirt but maybe that's why they hold up.

This brand is the best that I've found so far. Holds their shape, not too heavy, and ridiculously soft.

I own 8 different colors and wear as undershirts and as a stand alone t-shirt.

87 colors‽

Stafford Premium Performance Heavyweight undershirts are honestly about the best undershirts I've ever worn.  Yes you have wade through a pile of tighty whities, a cloud of ben gay looming in the air, old geezers with canes and walkers to get to them but they are extremely well made undershirts.  I want to say the heavyweight ones are around 8 ounces?  I've been through dozens of undershirts, I hate thin, cheap, crappy undershirts.  I don't like wearing an undershirt as a t-shirt but you could do that with these.  They come in crew neck, v-neck, etc.  I think, right now, they are $30 for 4 of them and then you get 40% off a second 4 pack (so $18 for the second 4 pack or 8 for $48.)  And usually JCP has some sort of sale or coupon or something going on.  I would put the Costco brand undershirts second in thickness to these, I still think these are thicker.

Yesterday when I was getting dressed, my Airism shirts were all dirty so I had to grab an old cotton t-shirt from the pile of stuff I rarely wear.  Not surpisingly, at the end of the day, even though it was cool in the office, when I got hmome to change at the end of the day, I had sweaty pits.  Undershirts have to be tech material, cotton are terrible.

I love the Kirkland brand t-shirts as well, but i usually wear them to lounge around the house instead of as an undershirt. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a better plain cotton t-shirt if that’s what you are after.

87 colors‽
I stumbled upon this brand when I bought a souvenir t-shirt at a brewery.

I can't stress enough how dang comfortable it is. You're going to want to wear them to bed.

Checked the name on the tag and off to Amazon to load up.

I don't know about 87 colors ... but there are a lot to chose from.

I struggled to pick out my favorite 8 and could have easily bought 15 that I liked.

They also offer combo 2 packs at a slight discount ... 1 red & 1 black, etc.

I grabbed 4 of the 2 packs all different colors = 8 total

The fit is spot on. I'm 6'1" and medium build and the Large fits me to a tee (pun intended). Shows off just enough bicep  ♂️

Check the reviews. Try a couple. I'll bet you will never look elsewhere for a T-shirt.

I put 3 packs in my cart. Any chance they go on sale?

I'm usually a L, 6'0, 180 lbs, 30" waist, 16.5 neck.

To be a first line of defense against pit stains and other visible traces of sweating through my shirt.

I've been rocking the white Hanes v-neck tagless numbers for a long time. Put me in the camp that with button-down dress shirts, you should not see a collar or any other hint of an undershirt.

I feel that way about polos, but really not religious about it, and if I'm going for a look where I want to show some tee under my button-down/polo, I'll wear a matching or complimentary-colored tshirt.

I normally hold on to these far longer than I should, so they become dishevelled yellow dishrag-looking things after many years of use, but hey, no one sees them so as long as they don't smell, I'll wear them until they are threads. Should probably update that behavior.

I'll also say another purpose of an undershirt is insulation. This has never been my problem as I've been mostly overweight my entire post-college life, and have always run hot in terms of my body temp. This past year I lost a bunch of weight and now I'm freezing in climes where I've been sweating, so not only have I moved to long-sleeved thermal tees in cases where I don't care if a little undershirt collar shows, I've also taken to wearing long thermal underwear under jeans and even under dress pants on one or two occasions in colder weather (I don't suggest this as depending on the material of the dress pants, they may hang differently with long-johns).

I've moved to a whole layering system, often rocking what I call a "4-2-2" (4 layers on top -- thermal long sleeve, t-shirt, casual button down -- 2 on the legs -- thermal long johns and jeans -- and two on the feet -- cotton ankle socks with thermal socks over top).

Yes, I am a complete freak.
Im surprised by this.   That is a lot of layers and a little weird.   First time I noticed weird in Stompin

Ordered these last week, received yesterday, put on for the first time just now.

Assuming they hold up over time, these are my new go to under shirt. Probably my go to plain T.  Simply fantastic. Thanks.

Glad you like them. My first one has been thru a dozen washes and is still like new.

T-shirt, undershirt, overshirt, pajama shirt ... Next Level brand does all well.

It must be the 60% cotton / 40% poly that makes these so soft and hold up so well.

The 100% cotton shrink to hell and they always look ratty after a short while.

If anyone needs the skinny on the best boxer briefs. I won't steer you wrong.

I'm a fan of hanes, with opening

I've bought a bunch of others without flap  / opening but you have to pull them down to pee. Not a fan while at work.

SAXX ... with ballpark pouch.

Fabric, like a womans black nylon pantyhose, sewn into both sides of the crotch to create a pouch ... so as you pull these on, gently holds things in place without any constriction.

They do offer some models with a fly but I'm not privy to those.

Material is soft and stretchy and holds up / keeps it's shape well.

at 6'1", I prefer the long leg versions ... but wear the standard models when it's hot out.

Very pricey ... but life changing for sure. I'm so spoiled now that when I run out of SAXX, my Tommy John second skin underwear is a disappointment.

Bossman, I TOTALLY agree.  I got one as a novelty shirt as well.  Man is it soft...and still is after numerous washes.  I use to buy JCP but now its all next level shirts.

If I'm paying $30 per set, it better be doing more than just holding the boys in place.

I know. Hard to justify the cost  .... I've yet to find these on sale or special pricing anywhere.

I'm buying these in 1's and 2's as my existing gear wears out.  I'm up to 7 pairs. 4 long / 3 short. Could use a few more.

Should probably just treat myself to one pair a month until my drawer is full.

The one knock on these ... the colors / patterns are weird. I'm an old guy ... don't really need to "make a statement" with my knickers.

I found one pattern that seemed pretty melo: Mini Vapor

Saxx Mini Vapor (careful ... no fly on these!)

After owning them for a year or so, I realized that the little green snowflakes are actually marijuana leaves.

Oh, now I get it ... mini VAPE-ER. D'uh.

My teenage kids got a kick out of that.

I bought a few of these to wear when I want to keep the top two buttons of my shirt undone and I might be sweating a bit. The deep V keeps it invisible, and their “patented Hydro-Shield underarm barriers”, basically built in underarm versions of panty shields, keep sweat from showing. I don’t normally have that issue, but after seeing it with several colleagues at a trade show in Vegas, I decided to go with the extra insurance against it. They sound weird, and kind of are, but they’ve been great.

They do work best with non-white shirts, as with those you can see through to the deep V.
After reading this, I bought a few and can vouch for their ability to prevent sweat showing through in the underarm area (I sweat profusely regardless of the temperature).

They are a little spendy but should save me money in the long run by elongating the life of my dress shirts, especially the lighter colored ones. Also make me a little more comfortable in my appearance as quite honestly I am slightly embarrassed by the appearance of sweaty pits.

Highly endorse if you are a SweatyGuy. 👍
