Mewelde Moore (1 Viewer)

Before AD came to town why did he not get more of a chance?

When given an opportunity it seems like Mewelde has made good use of it. He has decent size 5'11" 210lbs, a great receiver out of the backfield, and a good YPC average. I would think he would have value sharing the load in a 2 man backfield, is there a team that would be a good fit?

Avg. 4.9 YPC, had 37 receptions in 2005 and 46 receptions in 2007.

Edit*

Soon as I entered this it sounds like he is going to be signed by Pittsburg.

Will he be the #2RB?

According to the Pitt thread he just signed with the Steelers

Since he signed with the Steelers, I wonder if he has a legit shot at the #2 Rb slot.

he was given chances. he got hurt all the time. there was also the instance where i believe tice called him out for 'pretending' he was hurt or something like that. i never understood all the love for him, he had a few good games against bad opponents.

This is a much different year than last, but I often wondered why Tennessee did not look at Mewelde last year, given their need for a good third down back. Chris Brown was shopping around for another team, Pacman was lost for the year (Mewelde did fairly well as a return man) and he would have been cheap. Minn had no reason to bargain hard for him, having Chester and AD in the stable and might even had traded for one of the raw receivers that Tennessee had.

I thought Mewelde was an electrifying back during his "hot" games. I don't think he is capable of being an everydown back, but then again, there is a lot of value to having a third down back.

He'll never be a hall of famer, but the guy does have talent. I am glad to see him get a chance with a great team that has a history of running the ball.

The Steelers hosted free agent RB Mewelde Moore on Sunday, and "his signing appears imminent," according to ESPN's Michael Smith.

He'd be an upgrade over 2007 third-down option Verron Haynes and supply added punt and kick return value. The deal should be announced this afternoon.

Good news for Moore owners given Parker's injury. I'd imagine if Parker goes down again there'd be a 50/50 split between Davenport and Moore.

He'll compete with Davenport as a 3rd down back but I bet his main role will be as a return man. I just hope he can stay healthy.

Really Davenport did a fine job. This is just for solid depth. It hurts Gary and other low guys more than anything else. MM owners can drop him in most formats

Nuts. I was hoping he'd sign someplace where he'd carve out a bigger role and have a chance to really show what he can do. Unless Parker gets hurt his fantasy value is still very little. I believe he could have been another Ahman Green in the right situation, but I guess he's content to still be a nobody.

Verron Haynes was the 3rd down option in 2007? Learn something new every day.

I was actually hoping Russell was going to get a shot. I guess that door just closed a little more.

I agree with the sentiment that his primary value should be as a punt returner. Holmes and Reid have not worked out. This does put a dent in Gary Russell's value, as he seemed poised to compete with Davenport for backup time this year. This move also muddies the water for any Parker owner trying to handcuff.

I've always liked Moore's game, but there have been rumblings of attitude issues, and he doesn't seem to be able to hold up physically under a heavy load. Its too bad, because he has looked capable when given the chance in 2004 and 2005 - especially in the MNF win over GB in 2005, when he ran strong all game and got the game winning drive rolling.

I wouldn't be surprised if the guys who need to be sweating this, if he signs, are guys like Willie Reid and Jeremy Bloom, not Gary Russell.

Given Moore's durability issues, he may be being looked at as a returner first and foremost. Yeah, he has nice hands and has some moves, but as poor as the Steeler return game has been since Randle El left I wouldn't be totally surprised for them to try and limit Moore's 'non-return' reps in an effort to keep him healthy to contribute on specialty teams.

I think Moore would be an excellent sign given the cap space remaining. Theres a definate void in the Special teams dept. and theres going to be some competition for the RB2/3rd down slots.

Interesting. I've never been a big Willie Parker fan and while I think there's a zero probability of Moore winning the starting job, I could see this situation getting complicated in the event of a Parker injury. Not a great spot for Moore. Seattle or Arizona would've been much better. But Parker isn't exactly Tomlinson in spite of his rushing yards. Mewelde makes an interesting late round flyer who could excel in spot duty ala Ladell Betts or Justin Fargas.

he seemed to do alot more positive than negative everytime he got the the field. He's a good addition to the steelers for depth, hope he can stay healthy.

It’s official: Mewelde to Pittsburgh

March 3rd, 2008 – 1:13 PM by Judd Zulgad

Running back Mewelde Moore has agreed to a three-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. ESPN reported earlier today the sides were close and the deal is now in place. Moore was the Vikings’ No. 3 running back last season and also was used on punt returns. He will be reunited with Steelers coach and former Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh.

After playing behind Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor last year, there was little doubt Moore would look to move on after the season. Moore led the Vikings in rushing in 2005, gaining 662 yards on 155 carries, but last season he was inactive for four games and had only 20 rushing attempts. He also caught six passes. Moore and Bobby Wade both were used on punt returns at different points of the season and Moore averaged 10 yards on 13 returns.

Moore is the third of the Vikings’ nine unrestricted free agents to find work elsewhere. Linebacker Dontarrious Thomas signed a two-year contract in San Francisco and defensive tackle Spencer Johnson signed for five years with Buffalo.

This is good news for Moore who last year found himself inactive a lot and was not even the regular return guy. He should be able to be a regular return guy in Pittsburgh and should get a lot of looks in 3rd down and obvious passing situations with maybe some potential upside if he plays well. He is a talented player and may flourish in Pittsburgh's more wide open system they were using last season.

This is probably the role he would have been filling for any team he signed with. I'm not sure any NFL team would have thought he couyld fill a larger role.

Moore is a talented back but he has had two problems;1) getting hurt2) fumblingHe is a good changeofpace back and I expect him to be used that way, but his value in fantasy is less than his real world value.

The injury Parker suffered was a clean break to non-weight bearing bone in the leg. It is not the type of injury that usually has lingering problems or is prone to be reinjured. While I am sure they'll be cautious during mini and training camps Parker is going to be fine.Barring a new injury to FWP the only way Moore makes a huge impact on this team will be as a return man and possibly 3rd down back.

Agree. As a Moore owner it's not the best place he could have gone, but it's far from the worst either.

This signing should be a sigh of relief to any FWP owner. MM can be good in spot duty but breaks down quickly when he has been used as a feature RB. I do not see him as being any threat to FWP.

So this signing for depth and special teams indicates to me that the Steelers are very comfortable with FWP being their feature RB moving forward. The way so many seem down on FWP tells me he will likely be a value pick in redrafts in 2008.

The Stillers do need to do somthing to improve their Oline. That FWP was leading the league in rushing as late into the season as he was with that Oline is testiment to his abilities.

:sadbanana: I've been shopping him because I thought the best was behind us and that PITT would bring in someone else. This signing makes me feel much better about holding on to him. My main concern now is their SOS for next year. I'm not sure he'll fare much better than he did this year. Hopefully he'll be have more consistent fantasy scoring with a few more touchdowns.

Spot on analysis. :sadbanana: MM is an excellent sign. Depth at RB and special teams help at the same time.No way the Steelers go RB until very late in this draft. OL/DL all day.

For the 328th time, RBBC happens a lot less than people think, even when injuries strike.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Was really heavily considering moving FWP this offseason, in fear of signing a back that actually could be a threat or a true split RBBC member. MM isn't that guy, so I get the same impression from this signing. My impression of the Steelers thinking: "We needed some help at KR/PR, we needed to add a bit more depth at RB for competition, but we're committed to FWP as our primary back."Now we have to hope Tomlin learns some new tricks for the red zone offense...namely a upback formation and pounding the rock into the endzone! Helps to at least do this half a dozen times there, Mikey.
