Miami RB Situation (1 Viewer)

Wasn't David Johnson this time last year also just supposed to be a change of pace back? Opportunity and coaches trying to justify a draft pick can def trump skill set

No.  if anyone was calling him that they weren't informed.

And man, the Fins really don't like what they have seen from Ajayi, huh?
They bring in Foster, they don't fly him to the first game, now this... tells you what the coaches think. Any opportunity to pass him over for an opportunity

Many well informed people and sources thought o DJ as just that, looking back to his college career and extrapolating forward.

His physical talent and production demanded a harder look... by everyone including his own coaches.

When he was drafted by Miami, my interest didn't go up much.  I don't like the organization, I don't trust them to make good decisions, and they play in a division with three defenses I don't like my running backs going against.

I

I've been saying it for years, glad others feel likewise.

Those of you who paid for the Hawk newsletter know we've been high in Drake for some time. Going with Drake over Ingram and Ware today. Hawk move.

Guess I can cut this geek Ajayi...
Yeah, I am very close to being there too.  Quick change for me there but it is hard to ignore what is going on.

Gonna hold this week even though I likely won't get Drake on waivers if he is even reasonably above average but I prefer Kenneth Dixon, who is also available, to Drake regardless of what happens today.

Maybe this is just a ploy...no, no I'm sure it's not.

A ploy to soon cut ?

Their running game will always be frustrating just like it was when Miller was here, not worth the headache most likely.

Drake started but that meant nothing. He looked good when he ran the ball, IMO he looked the best or most well rounded of them all. That said, you're gonna look at the stats sheet and ask questions.

-Williams only saw the field on a drive or two, maybe a handful of plays. I haven't seen the snap count but he wasn't out there as much as Drake and Ajayi. 4 touches 25 yds and a TD.

-Ajayi was a very uneventful 6 carries for 17 yards thru 4 quarters of football HOWEVER in overtime Miami called his number from the Browns' 10 yard line on their 2nd drive in Overtime...I would ask you to please view the run, I'm sure NFL has it up on their site. I was elated for Miami and Ajayi has gotten the brunt of a lot of fan outrage around here, give him some credit for the TD.

That said, Dion Sims seals the end and Ajayi goes in untouched, that's how good the end block by the TE was. I think most grown men in here would have scored so I can't honestly say that Ajayi did anything to separate himself.

-It needs to be noted that Gase has done everything he can to run Ajayi out of here, he deactivated him Week 1, only got to play Week 2 because of Williams and Pead being suspended by the coach for a week. I don't believe Ajayi is ever going to get a real shot so even if you believe in the guy, not sure the front office or coaches do.

I would like to see more of Drake and Ajayi in game action and it would be nice if Miami could run the ball a little more. They seem very 1 dimensional right now, that can't be good.

So are we expecting more of the same this week with the RB mix? What is buzz on Foster? Would he have played if the game were on Sunday or is this gonna be a lingering hammy issue?

Williams was named the starter for tonight.

Think about how uninspiring all four of these guys must be for this 4-way split to actually be a thing.

Yuck.  So, the philosophy is to throw spaghetti against the wall and see if any of it sticks until foster returns (and foster is THE plan).

To me, this begs the question of what were these guys assessing all off season if they are 4 weeks in and don't have a clue?  If I became HC tomorrow I would either pick one guy and ride it out, better or worse, or I would sign Karlos williams or somebody or make a trade for Knile Davis.  At some point, you have to know what you have and what you don't, right?

Ajayi looks good, Williams mediocre and Pead bad. I'd like to see Drake touch the ball before the game ends but this is almost certainly a situation to avoid completely.

He looked vintage in game 1
So do most of the cars in Havana but you wouldn't want to drive one.

He was not good and got lucky to literally not have a Seattle defender within five yards of him for the first 28 yards of his one long gain.  He made a half way decent move to get past Earl Thomas (big props to him for that, sincerely) but otherwise he benefited from a massively blown coverage on his way to a well below average overall performance.

That halfway decent move was one of his vintage stop cuts and they played Seattle

Based on Adam Gases recent comments about what he wants from his RBs of 12 yard runs, Jay Ajayi didn't do well enough, because he only ran for 11 yards on 1st and 10 to start two of their drives.

Kenyan Drake on the other hand reached the prerequisite 12 yards on one of his runs, so Drake should start next week.

The Dolphins went 3 and out on 6 drives, all when Jay Ajayi was not involved in the offense.

Drake's run was against a prevent defense.

Ajayi is the only NFL caliber RB on that team.

Gase clearly must have it in for Ajayi given that he won't give him more work despite that fact that he is clearly outperforming the other RBs.

Foster will clearly have the job back to himself when he returns, but I would hold onto Ajayi if you own him just in case Foster gets hurt again and Gase decides to give Ajayi a longer look.

Again I give him credit for it but he was literally untouched for the first 28 or so yards on that play before he had to do anything. So nice for his owners that he got the yardage (I am not a "but if you take away his longest play guy") but color me unimpressed. He has looked like nothing but a below average RB since he tried to return last season.

I dont see how any of them can get into a rhythm and impress if a different one is in for each drive?   And just when they would start moving on Offense either they hand the ball to pead for no gain or Tanney fumbles, throws an int.... etc.   Heck, Williams was the "starter" but they went 4 wide no rbs to open so there really wasnt a starter.

Ajayi could be a buy.   He looks the best out there by far,  and it sounds like Gase isn't afraid to bench the most talented guys to make a point.

The risk is he never gets out of the doghouse...

I'd probably try to get him for almost nothing and then flip him later if he gets a bigger role.

In Dynasty...
