Michael Crabtree (1 Viewer)

Does he take a big jump in his second season or will Alex Smith prevent him from moving into the stud WR category?

I predict 1000 yards and 7 TDs this year. Thoughts?

I think a distinction can be made between Crabtree the NFL WR and the fantasy WR. Given the sheer number of targets he had down the stretch last year for Crabtree the fantasy receiver...

I'd say now is as good a bet as any.

Crabtree last year had 48 catches for 625 yards in 11 games. Extrapolate that over 16 games, and it's 70 catches for 909 yards. That's phenomenal for a rookie, let alone a rookie who sat out camp, preseason, and 5 games.

Even if Crabtree doesn't improve on his 13 YPC from last year, and manages just 1 more catch per game, you're looking at 86 for 1118 yards. I think it's reasonable to expect an increase in year 2.

Now I know he only had 2 TDs last year, but that's bound to go up. I don't see Vernon Davis getting 13 scores again, so that gives a few more scoring opps to Crabtree. I think Alex Smith can throw for 25 TDs. I see 8-9 each to both Crabtree & V Davis.

Crabtree is going to be a bordeline stud this year. He has Randy Moss like ability.

I like Crabtree a lot but this is crazy talk.
What's crazy, the fact that he will be a borderline stud this year or he has Moss like ability?

Crabtree is good but he's not 6'4'' with 4.2 speed, he's more of a rich man's Dwayne Bowe

Crabtree is a favorite of mine as well. Unfortunately, there is risk there. But that's why you can get him with deep draft picks. In my redraft/buyin league last week, I was absolutely shocked to be able to pick him up with my 5th/6th pick (60/61 in a 12 team league), because if this were next year i am positive a 2nd round pick would be necessary. I got him and Bowe. I thought it was my best picks of the draft. In my PPR/Dynasty league I'm drafting tonight at 730pm, I highly, highly doubt that he will be available anywhere past the 3rd or 4th round. I'm hoping I can get him with my 36th/37th pick (for those wondering, yes i was unlucky enough to get the last pick in both drafts, in a 12 team league that's 1/144 odds, lol).

The fact that he hasn't proved it yet makes it possible to pick him up in the 4th, 5th or 6th rounds. His talent level is in the 2nd round. It's not just his physical abilities, but his hands are some of the best! Mike Williams from Seattle also has incredible hands. These guys have elite level talent, and you get that talent very cheap in my opinion because they have yet to prove anything.

I feel I got great value with Crabtree with pick 6.1 in a 14 team league (pick #71). I drafted Moss as my #1 and Finley as my #2 since TE is not mandatory in my league. I feel pretty confident that Crabtree will outproduce the spot in which I took him.

I got Crabtree as WR2 in both my auction league and regular draft league because he was such a bargain. Now I'm beginning to wonder if my WR3 (Floyd) will outproduce him. If Crabtree had Rivers @ QB, it would be a no brainer.

Anyone else concerned that Smith may regress again this year and hurt Crabtree's potential?

 Smith enjoyed the best season of his career last year.

Way out on a limb, but by week 5, he will be top 10. I dont own him or even like his personality, wish I did have him though in my dynasty.

 Crabtree can become a great wr but Moss is a horrible comparison as their games arent the same at all.

What did he go for in the auction?

Yes  but it won't hurt his potential one bit. guy is a great talent. smith regressing would hurt crabtree's production.

love crab in dynasty, not sure he's a value in the 4th round of redrafts....

In my two auction leagues, he went for $18 and $16 - whereas Nicks went for $14 and $10, respectively. Definitely not a bargain for Crabtree (I think he has to be a mid-WR2 to justify that price), but both leagues were entirely comprised of SF locals.ETA: Oh, and IMO anything less than 1000 yards and 5 TDs would be a disappointment.

There is no reason to think Smith will regress this year.

- First year since college he's had the same OC in back to back years.

- Pretty substantial upgrade to his offensive line.

- He no longer has a head coach who seems determined to destroy his development.

- He finally has a half decent set of receivers.

I hope you are right. There is a strong contingent of fellow niner fans who feel that he's just not that good. We'll see.

Gotta ask as a fellow niner fan... do you honestly think Smith looks any better? I've been reading the camp hype religiously this summer and expected to see a different stride in Smith's step so to speak in the colts game. But what I saw was the same old faults: a) gives up on wr routes too early b) locks onto whoever is in teh middle slot wr/TE c) inability to just trust in teammates to make a play d) can't anticipate and has to wait until someone "looks open" before throwing e) can't hit the receiver in stride, leading to minimal YAC.BTW watching rodgers exhibit all teh aforementioned traits while shredding opposing Ds and knowing that we coulda had him instead of smith makes me wanna puke.

From a non-Niner fan I have thought Smith looked really good this pre-season.I like your team a lot this year.

From a Niner fan... I'm worried. I went to one training camp practice and Smith looked awful. Staring down TE's and RB's, not testing the secondary down field much and when he finally did he was locked in on Ginn so the DB ran to cover and batted the ball away easily. He has had a decent preseason and obviously he hasn't had Crabtree or Davis to work with in camp so we'll see.

He's a stud. He was targeted a VERY healthy amount by the last quarter of the year IIRC. Top 10 is most definitely a possibility. All depends on the offense and QB, not his hands or ability.

That's one of things that make me think he will NEVER be an elite QB. In the same way that a point guard is praised for having court vision in basketball, Smith lacks "field vision"... and I'm of the opinion that you either got it or you don't. Would not be surprised if we see a bit of the other newly acquired smith at qb this season.

What did he go for in the auction?
I got Crabtree for $8 & Floyd for $3.10, but our format is a bit quirky. It is a $100 hard cap (includes money for trades & FAs), blind bid auction with names drawn out of a hat rather than nominated.Floyd came out of the hat about half way through the draft, but Crabtree was one of the last solid WR still available when he came out. I way over estimated how much the other guys would bid & ended up out bidding the next closest bid by $4. :lmao:

I get the feeling that most of the people posting in this thread drafted Crabtree this year in one or more leagues.

neverthe dude is the next charles rodgers ....
 I would say the jury is still out but that is certainly a possibility. Not sure being described as a "diva" in your second year is a good thing, but time will tell. He (like Charles Rodgers) is incredibly talented.

Elite? I don't think ever. Very good? Probably 2 years if he can keep his act together.
