Citing two NFL sources, the Boston Globe's Greg Bedard reports "there is indeed fire behind that smoke" amid reports that NFL Network's Michael Lombardi could be the Browns' next general manager.
Sitting GM Tom Heckert's camp has made it clear that he wants to keep personnel control from new president Joe Banner, which could be a point of contention. League sources tell Bedard that Alabama coach Nick Saban has made it clear he would only return to the NFL if Lombardi was "playing Pioli to his Belichick." If Saban opts to stay at Alabama, Lombardi's top two choices would reportedly be Oregon's Chip Kelly and Patriots OC Josh McDaniels.
