Michael Okwo's 2008 value (1 Viewer)

What is Okwo's current value in IDP dynasty leagues now that Briggs is back in Chicago? Is he still worth rostering in your opinions? He looked okay in preseason, but it was hard to tell if he had moved past Jamar Williams or not.

Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Briggs won't be back with the Bears, so I think Okwo definitely has value. Either him or Jamar seem likely to start next year. I think Okwo is more talented, and has better skills to play WLB, but I really don't know how it will play out. The Bears also spent a 3rd round pick on him, and that is telling to me.I own both in a league, but if I had to only keep 1, I'd keep Okwo.

read that Okwo has been placed on IR with a shoulder injury (my players link at Fanball...not sure if that is postable or not).

Was the shoulder injury serious?

Seems to be that it wasn't that serious and he would of been OK mid season or so. Most feel like they were just stashing him away since he'd help little this year.

I think Jamar is clearly the more valuable player right now. He's had a full year in the system and played well this preseason. It looks like he'll be the primary backup at all 3 LB positions and he'll have another full year of practice and games to impress the coaches before next year's audition begins.

Okwo might be slightly more talented with higher upside, but he'll need to improve quite a bit to pass Williams next year. There's still a decent chance the Bears bring somebody else in or possibly re-sign Briggs next year too. With Okwo going on IR for the year, I'm not sure I'd hold onto him if it meant taking a roster space from someone else who is more likely to contribute this year. I guess I don't see much upside in having to wait at least a full year for what is probably less than a 40% chance that he replaces Briggs.

The buzz in Chicago is not only is it not serious, but something along the lines of a borderline ethically questionable 'redshirt' move. They still like his potential, but he wasn't ready to contribute this year. They wanted to keep an LB spot for ST ace Ayanbadejo and like their other back-ups, but one would have had to go if Okwo was on the 53. Oddly enough, Jamar Williams landed on the IR after the preseason last year too. I never thought about it, but I guess an IR year must count toward free agency, or agents would be complaining and the player's union filing grievances over moves like that.
