That would hurt Galloway's value next year. Visions of Gradkowski underthrowing an open Galloway by ten yards last year come to mind.

That's not what I was implying. I was referring to how Garcia's deep arm is not much stronger than Gradkowski's.

I don't think it is a bad match. I would not be surprised at all if the 2007 Bucs = 2006 Jets with some stable QBing.

Ok, this is the last straw. All the NFL owners should be lined up and shot! Just how bad has the culture of "Win Now" become. Gruden wins a Chanmpionship for the one laughing stock Bucs and just a few short years later he is on the hot seat?

I don't think his seat is nearly as 'hot' as some people do -- the Glazers are known to be Gruden supporters and if they really wanted to can him they would've just done it this offseason. Assuming he's able to get to 8-8 next year I think he'll be back. If he goes 4-12 again, they'll probably be forced to can him. But I don't think that'll happen.Ok, this is the last straw. Galloway was able to put up decent stats with Gradkowski. I'm sure he'll be fine with Garcia, if it happens.

In general I'd agree with you. I also believe Gruden is a quality head coach. Unfortunately he isn't very good at talent evaluation and that shortcoming is killing him as a coach. The team talent level has dropped each year that Gruden has been in Tampa.
decent but not as good as he would have with a QB with a real deep arm. I believe there were at least 2 or 3 long TDs left on the table last year - 150 and 2 is almost an entire tier at WR

Not nearly as much as my man Calvin Johnson is going to ruin galloway with Garcia at the helm. Garcia will feed CJ the ball.

Garcia hit some deep ones to Stallworth last year but Philly has an EXCELLENT offensive line. If the TB OLine doesnt show a great deal of improvement, I would not expect the same production out of Garcia in TB as he achieved in Philly.

Does TB run a west coast offense? If not I'd remember the Garcia in Cleveland and Detroit not the one in Philly and SF. Let Simms have a chance and I think he'll surprise people.

This makes sense. As long as Tampa is realistic with what Garcia brings to the table this is a move that could help them as they try to figure out their QB situation. Right now Tampa really doesn't know if their QB of the future is on their roster. Either Gradkowski and Simms could be that QB but both have their questions and are far from definites. With a bunch of other holes to fill and an adminstration that probably can't look too far to the future getting Garcia gives them a potential veteran stopgap. If either Gradkowski or Simms look great and beat out Garcia so be it. Unless his contract is silly that's not a big issue. Yet, if Simms/Gradkowski don't show much in camp than Tampa can cross their fingers and hope one develops while Garcia mans the fort short term. If all three bomb than things will not be looking good in Bucland.

Simms as the 1 and Garcia as the "gritty Vet who can come in and win." I think it's a good fit, honestly.
As I said last season, Simms should be a fine NFL starter and fantasy option. I disliked him greatly in college, but he has all the physical tools to be a good QB. Gruden is a good coach for him to be working with to try and make the leap.

I think Garcia would be a great fit there. The Bucs really need a veteran QB. And the comparison to the Jets this year is perfect - Gradkowski isn't that much better than Bollinger.

hey joe -- I just don't think it makes sense for a four win team to bring in a 37-year-old QB -- he's clearly not the guy of the future there, so why pay him 4.5M a year to take snaps away from a guy who could be, or to be a backup?if they went 9-7 or even 8-8 last year and the QB play was spotty, I could see it -- maybe then you could make the argument they could compete in the NFC with better quarterbacking -- but a four win team usually isn't going to improve enough for it to go deep in the playoffs, so this really doesn't make sense to me. just a lot of money for a guy for a guy who has no future here.Hi cappy,Why unsure?Worried he's got too little left?Philly was a fluke?Not strong enough arm?JCapella said:Not sure I like that.

If healthy, and with an upgraded Oline and a young/revitalized pass-rush, they can make the playoffs. The 2005 Jets were worse than the 2006 Bucs or the 2003 Steelers, and they both made a huge leap when they finally added a good quarterback. Galloway's window is closing, and I have to think Clayton and Cadillac would be better with a real QB. Alstott is making his big emotional run like Curtis and Bettis (although Bettis came back for one last one last try). And it seems like Gruden would do better with a veteran QB.

not a Garcia hater. Bucs were not good at qb. I think they should let it ride with Simms and see what they have.

Colin,There's little reason for Garcia to leave Philly if he'd go somewhere else to be the backup. Philly's offense suited him (obviously), and he's said he'd come back there.Now, I agree that Garcia is likely gone from Philly with AJ's new deal. AJ would have been the #2 guy last year if he had signed / been available before Garcia came in, but that's not how it worked out.Look for Feeley as the 2 in Philly and a new young arm to come in at 3. Garcia to another WCO makes the most sense, but I'm struggling to find a starting job for him. As for Garcia's deep ball, he has it (he threw a deep ball to Stallworth that flew 60 yards against the Saints IIRC in the playoff game), but he needs time and a burner that breaks free. He won't nail a location that far away, but everyone knows his strengths are mobility and short passes.Tampa isn't a bad fit, but I think Simms is the starter there. Garcia might go to Houston to try to start, as Oakland is drafting Russell and Favre is back in Green Bay. Not sure where else he could go.

I'd have to believe Simms goes into camp the #1 guy...if Garcia starts it'll probably be because he earned it?

This Bucs team has real holes at OL, DL, safety and potentially LB next year. They also had a top-5 pick at RB that didn't run hard last year and was outplayed by Mike Pittman when he had his shot to start the last two games, behind the same oline (albiet, Pittman had the luxury of playing with Rattay, who was competent). I don't think this Bucs team is any better than 8-8 with solid QB play next year. Too many holes need fixing (especially on defense) and I think with an early pick this year and four picks in the first 70 of the draft, they should be focused on 08. I know that's not going to happen, because Gruden's job may be on the line, and really, who wants the "we're focused on next year" mentality a year before it happens, but I really fail to see how this team is a contendah in 2007. So, I don't think they need to be giving valuable snaps to a QB pushing 40.
