Mid-season offensive turn-arounds (1 Viewer)

I'm trying to analyze my own (recent championship winning dynasty league) talent and wondering how I'm still 5-5 this year.

Do NFL teams ever make mid-season changes which overcome their early challenges?

Specifically, I'll bring out the San Diego Chargers. What has happened recently to their team? Is LT too old? Is the rest of the league catching up to their game plan? Are there injuries on the O-Line than are significantly affecting everything else?

I could say the thing about the:

Browns - what's different from last year?

Bengals - is it only that Carson Palmer is out or does the lack of Rudi Johnson come into play?

Rams - is everyone too old?

Seahawks - I don't even know who plays their skill positions anymore

Steelers - Is it all because of the defenses they're facing? MeMoore seems to be a pretty good replacement to FWP

Colts - I have no idea here

Packers - on paper, one of the largest collections of talents

Jags - do what?

Pats - is it all Tom Brady? Does Matt Cassell know that Randy Moss is on his team? They should meet.

This year has me baffled - I usually have things figured out by week 7 or so and I can't tell if I'm going to end up 6-8 or 9-5.

Everyone one of those teams has had one of two major factors:1. Significant offensive line issues2. Quarterback problems

Rarely.

I've been burned many times waiting for offensive "juggernauts" to turn it around. Either because of personnel, or changes in schemes, it either clicks or it doesn't from the get go. Injuries of course can play a big part, usually to the QB or more importantly (ask MJD or Taylor) to the offensive line.

But if Braylon Edwards would turn it around I'd be most freakin' appreciative..

Didn't one of the mods do a study on this?

I seem to recall that the study showed that what happened in the first four weeks was pretty much the forecast for the year. Of course, there always are aberrations.

Out of this group, the team whose failure to turn it around that I've found surprising has been the Rams. They did turn it around for maybe 3 weeks, Avery was clicking, Bulger was improving and SJax was starting to pile up yards. It looked like Haslett would be a permanent hire. SJax being out has now led to two dismal weeks, and now Haslett is likely to be on the street again. Maybe SJax is the key there. The Colts aren't really doing badly, they're still a good team to invest in offensively, they're just a little disapointing compared to prior years, Addai's a flop and Marv seems to be a weakness now. Payton also doesn't seem to have all day to sit around and wait for his pick of receiver to get open. But still mostly Wayne, Clark, Manning and Rhodes have done well, and even Gonzo can serve as a one week fill-in with the right matchup. The Pats running game has been pretty good, first Morris, then Faulk, now BJGE. Cassell's the only one not worth starting.Browns, Anderson lost his accuracy and Edwards seems to have a concentration problem. Lewis has been dependable if not great and Quinn looks good so far.The Bengals are in the midst of a lost season, foget it.The Seahawks look like they need a rebuilding, and like Holmgren should have left last year, I'm not even sure it wast he injuries or Hass there.SD: Norv Turner, look no further. They replaced Schottenheimer with him after a 15-1 season? They get what they deserve.Do NFL teams ever make mid-season changes which overcome their early challenges?: Yes, see KC. Herm looked incompetent, now he looks like hard working football coach who actually did something.

Strictly speaking in fantasy football terms, turnarounds happen all the time and are more a function of strength of schedule than anything else.

What do you want in terms of a turnaround for the Chargers? They are the #5 highest scoring team in the league. You make it sound like they are a bottom feeder.
