***Mid Season RB Expert Dynasty Rankings (1 Viewer)

Do you even watch the Jets games? Jordan has 963 yards on 191 caries for a CAREER average of 5.0 ypc. What makes that even more impressive is that many of those carries were on goaline or short-yardage downs where teams knew the Jets were going to run the ball. So the defenses were geared to stop Jordan and he's still putting up 5.0 ypc. I live in New Jersey so I get to see every Jets game (No I'm not a Jets Homer). Jordan runs with power, has good moves, and some nice speed. What impresses me about him is that when he gets hit, he delivers the blow he doesn't take it. He also finishes off his runs by running people over and running hard.

It amazed me last year and this off-season when people said "Well he can't even beat out Martin, how good can he be?". Anyone seen what Martin is doing lately??? The reason Jordan couldn't beat out Martin was because Martin is the heart and soul of the Jets. He's a consistent producer who has chemistry with the offense. He'sa leader on and off the field and most importantly...he's been affordable! Why would the Jets screw with something that's worked for so long. Martin's had 1000+ yards rushing ever year he's been in the league AND he has a career average of 4.0 ypc.
Troy Hambrick and Trung Canidate stats.

Yes, the stats are perhaps comparable to Hambrick and Canidate, but what Boone22 discussed is right on the mark.I'm a Jets homer, and have watched every Jets game since Jordan entered the league. As Boone22 said, Jordan runs with authority - very good power and speed to get around the corner. He's a ;oad to bring down.

But if one doesn't want to go off the stats or listen to the fans, listen to Mike Mularkey to Curtis Martin, two guys who know a little something about RBs. They (and others) have said that Jordan could start for a number of teams. Oakland has been after Jordan for two years now, and Houston tried to trade for him when they entered the league.

Bottom line is that the league knows this guy can be a player. Whether he can do it over the course of a season is another matter.

A few things in regards to Lamont Jordan:

Where was all of his authority and moves when CuMart was really struggling early in 2002?? Martin was nursing a injury and Jordan split carries with him 32 for Martin and 24 for Jordan during the 1st 4 games. He did not play better than average during that span of time.

Then in 2003 Curtis Martin did not score a TD until week 13 of the season and only twice on the year. He clearly struggled by his standards for a variety of reasons you could look at but where was Jordan then? That was Jordans worst EOY performance to date when in my opinion a starting quality Rb should at least show some flashes if they are as talented as some seem to think. Most of the free agent to starting Rbs have shown much more than Jordan has under similar circumstances.

As far as the Raiders showing interest in Jordan if they really thought he was that good I imagine Al Davis would have found a way to make him a Raider then. I guess that Jordan is not yet old enough for them. ;)

I think probobly about 50% of the Rbs in the league would be an improvement over what teams like the Raiders and Cardinals have right now so the comment about Jordan being able to start for some teams is kind of moot imo. I didn't say he sucked I said he was average.

I expect Lamont Jordan to be a career backup or part of a RBBC. Just because the Jets used a 2nd round draft pick on him won't change that.

As far as how good CuMart is which has kept Jordan from getting an opportunity you could make a comparison between the Hearst/Barlow situation except for Jordan is not as good as Barlow is. Not that I think Hearst was as good as CuMart has been but it is fairly close really the situations taken into consideration.

I do not think Lamont Jordan is better than Domanic Rhodes for example and he did not get a new deal this year. The difference here though is that Jordan has been a baby about the situation he is in and so prbobly will not be brought back by the Jets.

I thought it was very telling this offseason the way he reacted to the drafting of Derrick Ward who will probobly replace him as the back up Rb in 2005. Right after the draft Jordan blows up and demands a promise to start which of course the Jets would not and have not given him. Why did he react this way? What had changed from the situation before at that time? The only thing I can see is that he recognised his role as a backup and possible future starter was being threatened by the Jets drafting a rookie.

This game against Miami who is a demoralised team does not prove Jordans great talent imo. In fact looking at his best performances it is pretty consistently in situations against bad teams allready worn down by Martin. I do not see him performing well when he has had the opportunity and the Jets really needed him which is what a starting Rb has to do.I was refering to Kevin Jones 2nd year which will be 2005. Mooch has added Woody this year. It takes more than one season to rebuild the offensive line. They probobly wont be there yet in 2005 Mooch's 3rd year either because it ushualy takes time for the Oline to play well as a unit. But I think he may have the right personel to work with by then. Enough for Kevin Jones to make some progress at least.

Julius Jones I am really unsure about. I was not overly impressed with him before Parcells drafted him. So most of my hopes for JJ stem totaly from my faith in Parcells. But maybe Bill made a mistake on this one.

Should Lamont Jordan somehow end up in Dallas though my opinion of him would very quickly change.

However besides SA Edge Bennett Henry (possible trades/Cap space free agents) I like ATrain and Rhodes chances to be given a chance to start over Jordan. And this rookie crop of Rbs looks a lot better imo than last years group. Possibly as good or better than the 2001 or 2002 rookie classes.

Simply put, too many other better options.

I have a question for everybody regarding Preist and Dynasty rankings. If you could have Preist knowing that he will only play 2 more years but he will be the #1 back both years and lead the league in TD's, how would you rank him?

IMO, he has to rank high. He can be the difference in winning your championship or not. Even though he only plays 2 years, so what if you WIN!

This is an excellent example of why I think some guys undervalue good players. They put way too much emphasis on long term keeper potential. Let's remember 1 thing guys, people get injured and change teams. You don't know what's going to happen 3-4 years down the road. How many guys even last that long? The avg. life of a RB is what, 4 years?

Thoughts?
Old post, but thought was good with the dynasty talk going on. The win-now argument is valid however Priest and Martin show that no RB can be relied on and forsaking the future for what you think is guaranteed now is often a mistake.Anyone else :wall: at the Larry Johnson rankings?
