Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that the Tigers have traded Mike Maroth to the Cardinals for an as yet undisclosed return.

The Cardinals were clearly looking for rotation help, signing Tomo Ohka to a minor league deal after Braden Looper joined Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder on the disabled list. The trade clears way for Kenny Rogers to rejoin the Tigers' rotation.

Indians should have tried to get him since he'd be the team's third best starter. :moneybag:

A complete act of desperation, but Maroth will be decent as a LAIM (League Average Innings-Muncher), which is something the Cards need. If Maroth can get into the 7th inning on a semi-regular basis, then this deal will be a success.

At least he's not Tomo Ohka. Guy got absolutely raped in his first minor league start.

I've always been a big Maroth fan but he doesn't look the same this year after coming back from injury. He's had some decent outings but he's also had some really bad ones. He'll get you into the 7th most starts and I think he'll be a good #5 starter next year, but I'm not so sure about what he'll do the rest of the way this year. I would wish Maroth well anyway because he's a class act but I especially want him to do well if the degree of talent in the PTBNL is determined by Maroth's performance the rest of the way. In that case I hope he goes 10-1 with a 3.01 ERA.

Did Chem X warp your mind during your negotiations with him?

I just want better prospects guy. Don't kill the dreams of a dreamer. Leave that to the Chemical X's of the world.

And I just want to have sexual relations with Scarlett Johannsen, but that's not going to happen, now is it?

Came here to add how classy Maroth has been over the years as a Tiger. His attitude will be missed in Detroit, but his below average outings will not be. I also wish Maroth good luck even if it is no longer for the Tigers. I guess I am a sucker for good guys, but consider me a lifelong fan. (barring a trade to the Tribe or Pale Sux)

Maroth was a good bible thumper to have on the team. As a junk pitcher I think he's probably going to continue to have arm issues. I wish him well though.
