Mike Martz Offence? (1 Viewer)

What do you guys know about his offence and the use of the running back in the passing game.

I was under the impression that Marshall Faulk only really boomed as a receiver under this system, but under further inspection I see he had 86 catches in his last year in Indy.

What I'm trying to find out is what impact Martz will have on Kevin Jones. If Jones can get his receiving totals up to even 50 a resemble number, he becomes a pretty valuable commodity.

If Martz really does make it a priority to get his running back involved in the running the game, what is the potential ceiling that Kevin Jones can have.... is it un realistic to think that hey may have a shot at pulling in 70 passes.

Obviously I know he is not Marshall Faulk.... but was Martz offence built around the weapons he had, or is it set, and will he try to conform the players he has in Detroit to fit his offence.

I think Brian Calhoun will benefit more than Jones in Martz's system.
As per KFFLCalhoun is the 3rd Rb on the depth charts behind A. Harris. A former 3rd string RB at STL.

Sorry, I meant that Calhoun will benefit more as a receiver than Jones in the system. I forget where I read it, but Martz is planning on lining up Calhoun in a number of positons in order to get him the ball in space.

The most important thing to note about a Martz led offense is that the QB gets hit, and hit alot. Marinelli will really have to step in and force Martz to run more, and protect the QB.

If Martz call all the plays then 5 guys block, 6 guys run downfield, and 1 throws 80% of the time. The best defense is to pound the QB since no one is picking up a blitz. If this is the case:

Kevin Jones will be hard pressed to get 1000 yds.

Kitna will be injured and out early on (when they play the bears?)

If the head coach has any input then they have the potential to be like the 2000 Rams or the KC Chiefs under Vermeil which would make Kevin Jones a great fantasy back.

Major Factor in either case: Quality of the current offensive line.

Open against Seattle & Da Bears!! :X

But then:

Pack - Rams - VIkes - Bills - Jets
