or does Mike Singletary get the nod. This should be an interesting story, and we wish Nolan the best. I can't imagine he'll be able to focus to coach tonight, but should make for an emotional night. Maybe the Niners can step up.
According to SFGate.com....he is expected to be on the sidelines.
**** Nolan Passes Away
**** Nolan, one-time head coach of the 49ers and father of current coach Mike Nolan, died Sunday morning at 75. The elder Nolan was ill with Alzheimer's disease and prostate cancer. Mike missed two days of practice this week to be with his father, who lived with his wife Ann in the Dallas area.
The elder Nolan coached the 49ers from 1968-75. San Francisco won the Western division three times during Nolan's tenure and made it to the title game twice. A defensive back with the New York Giants, who worked as an assistant under legendary Dallas coach Tom Landry, Nolan won Coach of the Year honors in 1970.
Of his six children, only Mike went into coaching, eventually following his father to be the 49ers head coach. Mike returned from the Dallas area on Saturday and plans to be on the sidelines in Seattle for the team's Monday night game against the Seahawks.
In lieu of flowers, the Nolan family has asked that donations be made to the National Alzheimer's Association.
Yes. He absolutely coaches tonight. Tough guy and he'll do his best. I just hope they don't get stupid with the Favre comparisons and make it too much of the story. I hope they give the guy some respect and don't try to capitalize with a "story" on it.
If I recall correctly, didn't the NFL say he could only wear a suit either only for home games, or only a certain number of times?Since he wears them in honor of his father, I am hoping to see him in a suit tonight.
I don't understand why the NFL would limit the number of times someone can wear a suit. A suit shows class and dignity and also demands some respect. Why would the NFL have such a rule??Sorry to get off topic. My thoughts and prayers are with the Nolan family.

My mother died of Alzheimer's as well. It was a long process and by the end I was actually happy that she went to a better place. I am sure Nolan had come to grips that his father was dying a while ago so it is not like a shocking death. His death will be a time of sadness but I am sure he can focus on his job for this one game.
From the sfgate.com, regarding Nolan coaching tonight:
Mike Nolan will coach the 49ers in tonight's game against the Seahawks, one day after the death of his father, ****, who succumbed at 75 to Alzheimer's disease and prostate cancer.

"It's a tough situation for his son," said George Seifert, who coached the 49ers from 1989 through '96. "He's going to do what his dad would have wanted him to do. I would be surprised had he not. He loved his dad so much, what better way to honor him?"

That's mostly right. Although the suits he wears were designed by Reebok to fit in their endorsement contract. As to why it's limited, my only guess is that they want to showcase their line of clothing and don't figure to sell a lot of suits so they want the coach in their sellable gear. And with the weather tonight even if he wore the suit he'd get covered with a big wind breaking rain jacket anyways. It would be a very nice gesture if Reebok/NFL let him wear it tonight, although honoring his father makes more sense to do it at home where **** coached.
