Mike Thomas has officially assumed the #1 WR role on the Jags, and Sims-Walker's officially bumped. I know that is not saying all that much, but this is getting no pub and deserves a mention at least. It is clear that MJD is not going to have any room to run, so this team is going to have to throw to win. Looking a little more, it started late early as last year, where he got 20 targets over the last three weeks (and that was with Torry Holt still in town). All he needed was goal line looks this year. Now he has those, getting just as many (1 less) than MSW this year. He has been very consistently targeted the whole season averaging nearly 7 per game, and outpacing MSW by 5 so far this year with total of 41-36. If not for MSW week two 12 target game, it would not even be close. He has led the team in receiving yards for three of the six weeks in 2010 so far. I have to assume that still getting the red zone targets, he will eventually find the end zone a few times. The draw back is of course QB play, with Garrard looking like a deer in headlights (and being injured). It doesn't get any better with Trent Edwards. But as we know, you can still post respectable stats with a sub par QB. His size is not ideal for a #1, but the link below shows you a couple of draftguys.com hacks
breaking him down a bit.
It also doesn't hurt that they finish the season with Indy, Washington, Houston (If you have week 17 championship). That's a pretty cake passing schedule. By then, the Jags should be firmly out of it and building for next year. He is only in his second year, so will remain very involved to build chemistry and experience. I can only see things getting better for Mike. Getting it out there now, for those that like to act before the blow up on the field. If not, throw him on your radar and act once (if) he hits.
