RB LeQuint Allen, JAX (1 Viewer)

Here's a guy not being talked about a lot from what I've seen. He led the nation for receptions at the RB position with 64/521/4 and had 228/1021/16 running the ball. He's a 6'0" 200 lb RB that is built more like a WR than RB. He's 20 years old. Some team is going to love him IMO. In a class with a lot of good RBs I can see him getting lost in the shuffle. He could be a good dart throw in the 3rd or 4th round of rookie drafts. Thoughts?

Syracuse RB LeQuint Allen led all FBS backs with 64 catches this season.

He’s a menace on options routes. Also thrived in a variety of different screens at Syracuse.

On the short list for best pass-catching backs in the draft.

“Both Tuten and Allen make sense as potential fill ins on third downs thanks both to their abilities as pass-catchers out of the backfield and the success each had pass-blocking in college. Allen might be the most versatile receiver of the duo, which could lead to a key role early on.”

3 Questions on Jaguars RB Room
I'm going to have to see this situation sort itself out more before I look to Allen, but he's a fine taxi squad guy if you play with those.

So far we've heard about Rootin' Tuten putting the ball on the ground and he needs to step up his pass pro. Is Quint the true stash here? I'm starting to lean that way.

I suspect he's either gonna be cut or placed on Taxi. Didn't receive a single carry in the 1st preseason game, but did have 4 receptions on 4 targets for 20 yards. We'll see how the next game goes. I've not been hearing anything about him since OTAs and rookie camp. I hope he ends up somewhere they'll use him. So tired of watching all these old, washed up retreads keep getting chances. Why wouldn't anyone want to give a younger guy a shot? Stupid NFL. :kicksrock:

Any thoughts on this guy with Tank being shipped out and possibly having the 3rd down, pass catching role? I know he's listed as RB 3 on the depth chart but who knows how Coen will decide to use his RBs moving forward.

I just mentioned him in the Etienne thread. No idea if LeQuint (we’re gonna need a bigger backfield) is any good, but this RB situation may be more fluid that what it appears.

Hooper, give it room......son of a *****

LeQuint Allen quietly got 30% of the snaps (21) on Sunday. It only amounted to one target but Tuten, who had six carries and one target only played 17% of the offensive snaps (12).

Aberration or is this something we should be monitoring?

Two-minute drill, I think. That's what Nathan Jahnke said.

"LeQuint Allen Jr. took the two-minute drill snaps, unlike the last two weeks, and the Jaguars had fewer snaps with two wide receivers on the field at the same time. It’s relatively common for teams to sometimes use their third-down back during the two-minute drill while using their main running back at other times, so this probably doesn’t mean much going forward." - Jahnke, PFF

Thanks. Trying to figure out if I want to handcuff Etienne and, if so with who. Kinda surprised they would have Allen in during the 2 minute offense but, he did catch a lot of passes last year at Syracuse.

That's his specialty so I would think it makes sense. Waldman has always said Etienne has lousy pass-catching technique. Doesn't particularly like Etienne as a back. Do with that what you will. Waldman could be wrong and tends to stick to priors, but he's the only guy really analyzing it that deeply and publishing it, so . . .

I viewed Allen as the best pass blocking RB in the entire draft and he’s a good receiver. So a really good third down back but not sure he has a lot more in his bag.

He might play more than Tuten but he’s not the handcuff.

Yep. I didn't elaborate but I thought that was a given. I was merely explaining why Allen would be in there instead of Etienne, which is where I thought Chaka was going with his question, but I'm realizing I completely missed his comment about the handcuff. I just didn't see it somehow.

eta* I mean, Allen, to my understanding, was never really a serious threat to be a starter in the NFL. I guess it could happen, but I just didn't really . . . I didn't even see Chaka's follow-up comment. I don't know what I'm looking at today, I guess. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

Yeah, everything I read on Allen said he was arguably the best pass pro back in the draft with great pass catching chops. His running game is where he lacks. Not explosive, no break away speed...just gets what's there. And Tuten has a tendency to put the ball on the ground. I'm not saying that Allen is the back to handcuff with ETN, but game script will dictate between Allen or Tuten.
