The precedent was already set by the NYJ. Suspend Tomlin the rest of the season and tack on a few hundred Gs.
It is. Say a returner is going the distance for a score and there is no one left to stop him, but someone from the sidelines runs on to the field and tackles him, they can award the touchdown.I don’t think that awarding TD’s is possible per the rules
Ok. What do you think? This was worse IMO. Tomlin found his way ONTO the field of play. The precedent was already set by the NYJ. Suspend Tomlin the rest of the season and tack on a few hundred Gs.

Going to have to disagree with you, Bayhawks. If you watch the video all the way through and watch the slo-mo they show, he clearly violently jumped to his right just as Jones was reaching him while he was watching Jones run toward himself on the jumbotron. It seems conclusive to me that he either intentionally interfered/cheated or that he has Tourrette's Syndrome which he's done a great job of keeping under control until now. That's not any kind of proof. The NFL should hammer Tomlin and the Steelers. There is no question that he timed his move based on watching the play unfold on the Jumbotron, which Tomlin has already said he was doing. Also, this angle makes it clear that Jacoby Jones reacted to his action and it allowed him to be caught from behind.
Tomlin should be suspended as well as fined and it should not be a short suspension. I've always liked Tomlin, but that was pure bush league! I wonder how mad the Steelers will be at hometown KDKA over this.

I think Tomlin did it intentionally, but all that video show is him standing slightly on the field, then jumping out of the way. It doesn't show him stepping to his right, as the article tries to suggest.
Again, I think Tomlin did try to influence Jones by being on the field, but that video doesn't "prove" anything of the sort.
It shows him moving his feet like a soldier during a marching drill trying to get his feet precisely placed at the sideline, and nothing like a person who lost track of where they were while focused on something else. That's not any kind of proof. The NFL should hammer Tomlin and the Steelers. Yes the penalty is a "palpably unfair act", and the ref can give any yardage or score he deems equitable for the situation.I did not know thatIt is. Its called a blatantly unfair act or something like that- essentially the referee has total discretion as to what to do about it.It is. Say a returner is going the distance for a score and there is no one left to stop him, but someone from the sidelines runs on to the field and tackles him, they can award the touchdown.I don’t think that awarding TD’s is possible per the rules
Yeah thats it. I believe the example they provide in the rulebook is essentially this case- coming off the sideline to stop a breakaway touchdown.Yes the penalty is a "palpably unfair act", and the ref can give any yardage or score he deems equitable for the situation.I did not know thatIt is. Here's the relevant part of the video put into an animated gif that shows it very clearly.
Just imagine if the Steelers had won this game in OT after getting the 2-point conversion at the end. I wonder how the league would have explained that one, knowing that a coach interfered with a player and potentially cost the losing team 4 points in a game that was ultimately decided in OT. Granted, we have no idea how the rest of the game plays out had Jones scored on the kickoff return, but it would still be a mess for the league.

He could also say he was having a stroke. Or that his left testicle really itched bad and he was trying to give it a little friction without being obvious.I don’t know that the animated gif helpsIt shows him moving his feet like a soldier during a marching drill trying to get his feet precisely placed at the sideline, and nothing like a person who lost track of where they were while focused on something else. That's not any kind of proof. The NFL should hammer Tomlin and the Steelers. Yep.Jones would've been tackled anyway.![]()
The gif was made by an idiot. It should include another second. Just after it stops and re-loops is when Tomlin then puts his right foot onto the field and then does a quick look over his shoulder and jumps left.I don’t know that the animated gif helpsIt shows him moving his feet like a soldier during a marching drill trying to get his feet precisely placed at the sideline, and nothing like a person who lost track of where they were while focused on something else. That's not any kind of proof. The NFL should hammer Tomlin and the Steelers. It didn't seem to affect his ability to move the right way in cozying up to the field.Would watching the play on the Jumbotron facing the other direction cause you to step the wrong way if the camera angle was the facing you?
Bait? Are you saying it isn't true? That the Steelers have a long history of dirty players, a face-of-the-franchise who is a sexual predator? Which is okay by the owner, but the black WR who smokes pot is cut immediately.Hmmmmm.... Bait much?Typical move from a classless organization.
If you somehow lost track of the direction youve been staring at for the last hour and a half because you swiveled your head 90 degrees.Would watching the play on the Jumbotron facing the other direction cause you to step the wrong way if the camera angle was the facing you?
Playing the race card? Really? Yeah, the Steelers have a black head coach, and their owner is responsible for the Rooney Rule, which ensures that blacks are given equal shots at head coaching jobs, so why would you think the franchise is okay with a white sexual predator, but not okay with a black pot smoker? That the Steelers have a long history of dirty players, a face-of-the-franchise who is a sexual predator? Which is okay by the owner, but the black WR who smokes pot is cut immediately.
yeah, not trying to excuse him being there in the first place. I was just wondering if the side step towards the field would be the nature reaction if you were seeing your self at a reverse angle followed by an oh #### moment? It didn't seem to affect his ability to move the right way in cozying up to the field.Would watching the play on the Jumbotron facing the other direction cause you to step the wrong way if the camera angle was the facing you?
I get you. I just don't buy it in this case. If he hadn't deliberately slid over to the sideline -using the big screen- just as Jones starts breaking into a lane I might buy it.yeah, not trying to excuse him being there in the first place.
I believe this... Tomlin seems like a trustworthy guyyeah, not trying to excuse him being there in the first place. I agree with this. This is the second time this has happened in recent memory. The NFL should make sure there isn't a 3rd. Suspend him for the first 4 to 8 games starting next season. 250k fine to the Steelers and loss of pick, some where between 3rd and 5th round. The NFL should fine, suspend, and remove a draft pick.
Calvin would have picked up Tomlin over his shoulder and used him as a human shield.Jones was going to get tackled or atleast get caught up, he should of leveled Tomlin instead of running into the tackle.
Even if it was an accident on Tomlin's part, I think there should be some kind of punishment. Other on- and off-the-field mishaps get penalized even if it was just a mistake...I get you. I just don't buy it in this case. If he hadn't deliberately slid over to the sideline -using the big screen- just as Jones starts breaking into a lane I might buy it.yeah, not trying to excuse him being there in the first place. I agree that in retrospect, Jones should have made sure to stay against the sideline, "bump" Tomlin and fall down. Instant TD, Tomlin ejected and fined.Jones was going to get tackled or atleast get caught up, he should of leveled Tomlin instead of running into the tackle.
That would have been a fun fantasy debate. Does the player get awarded the TD or the team?I agree that in retrospect, Jones should have made sure to stay against the sideline, "bump" Tomlin and fall down. Instant TD, Tomlin ejected and fined.Jones was going to get tackled or atleast get caught up, he should of leveled Tomlin instead of running into the tackle.
Or the love that they have for the Rooneys.Blatant as hell. If you are watching the jumbotron to get a better angle then why the need to look over your shoulder as the runner is getting closer.
Tomlin is part of the Competition Committee now as well. "hello, our newest member is a cheater-meet Mike Tomlin."
. Need to fine him substantially. Suspension as well, and forfeit a pick.
but the NFL won't. They will lighten the sentence based upon Tomlin's past good guy image. Not much different than the Jets fiasco
Cool and all...I believe this... Tomlin seems like a trustworthy guyyeah, not trying to excuse him being there in the first place. I hate the Steelers as much as the next guy, but why the loss of draft pick? When a player blantantly violates the rules and injures another player, there's no loss of draft pick. this is a tomlin issue, not a Steeler organization issue. This is a big one here for the NFL. Goodell has no problem laying huge fines and suspensions on players. What Tomlin did was a total bush league move and could have impacted the outcome of the game and playoff race. Tomlin has to be suspended at least 2 games along with fines and loss of a draft pick. In fact Tomlin should get the same punishment as the Jest coach.
Head coaches should be held head and shoulders above their players. He should be more severely punished since he is supposed to be a leader of men. They represent the team and are in management, he is also part of the competition committee he should receive the biggest possible penalty and the team should receive one too.I hate the Steelers as much as the next guy, but why the loss of draft pick? I'm sorry, "violently jumped?" All that it shows is him moving from on the white paint (line?) slightly onto the field. The move covered no more than 6 inches, and he never had both feet off the ground at once. Therefore, it was never a jump, and the very subtle 6" move could hardly be called a "violent" movement.Going to have to disagree with you, Bayhawks. That's not the question as to whether I think it's true or not just don't think this is the thread in which to have this discussion... Have the Steelers made questionable calls lately? Absolutely!!Bait? Are you saying it isn't true? That the Steelers have a long history of dirty players, a face-of-the-franchise who is a sexual predator? Which is okay by the owner, but the black WR who smokes pot is cut immediately.Hmmmmm.... Bait much?Typical move from a classless organization.
And now we have a head coach who is cheating in game, and then lying to everyone's face about it.
Yeah, must be "bait," lol.
Intent is irreverent IMO. Fine/suspension needs to be the same regardless.I'm sorry, "violently jumped?" All that it shows is him moving from on the white paint (line?) slightly onto the field. The problem is that the NFL has been very lax about enforcing this. My season tickets are behind the opponents sideline and you will see coaches in the white area and on the field every game. 99% of the time it is away from the play and has no effect but it still occurs.Head coaches should be held head and shoulders above their players. What Tomlin did is not the same as a player, intentionally or unintentionally, hitting another player above the shoulders while in the field of play. A coach has no business stepping on the field while the ball is in play. There is NO EXCUSE for this and anyone that says otherwise is a blatant homer.

I am not a mind reader so I don't know for sure if Tomlin intentionally interfered or not but the fact is he did interfere and deserves to be fined heavily and possibly suspended a game or two. Talks of a lengthy suspension or losing draft picks is a bit excessive though.
If the NFL wants to prevent this sort of thing they should start policing the white area better and start throwing flags.
The league had warned teams about sideline interference the day before the Tomlin incident
Did you read either of my posts? I clearly said each time, I think it was intentional. The video that the OP posted doesn't "prove" that, however, as he believes. The fact is it doesn't matter what the video "proves." Also, it would take a complete moron to not see this was intentional. Good thing this isn't a court and theres no proof beyond a reasonable doubt here.
I don't believe his story. I don't believe that an NFL coach watches the jumbotron instead of the action on the field. i don't believe that an NFL HC would "accidentally" wander onto the field in the middle of a play. It doesn't make sense, despite how logical Tomlin tries to make it seem. Why do you think he did it on purpose?
