Mike Walker, JAX WR (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the tip. This guy wasn't on my radar. Probably wouldn't look to take him before the 6th round given his injury and situation, but I'll keep my eye on him.

Nathan from Little Rock, AR: Which Jags player has stood out to you so far in training camp?

Vic: There are three players, in my opinion, who are competing for the title of “training camp sensation.” They are Mike Walker, Greg Estandia and Brent Hawkins. Those are the three that really jump out at me.

Robert from Columbia, MD: What wide receivers have surprised you so far in camp? How has Jimmy Farris looked?

Vic: Mike Walker, as I’ve said, has been the star among the wide receivers. He is, without a doubt, the Jaguars’ most talented wide receiver. The Jaguars need to find a receiver worthy of the “number one” distinction and Walker is the guy who has the tools to be a “one.” I don’t know if that qualifies as a surprise, however, because we all saw his talent in spring drills. Seventh-round pick John Broussard has surprised me. I knew he was a speed guy but that reputation is usually accompanied by a reputation for having hands of stone. Broussard doesn’t have hands of stone. He catches the ball well. So I have a fast guy who has good hands. What’s not to like? Jimmy Farris caught my eye for the first time Wednesday afternoon. He looked smooth. He looked like a guy I’d like to look at some more. He’s way down the list and that makes him a long shot to get into the competition for a roster spot, but I’ve seen guys come from farther back than he is. Look at Montell Owens. He came out of nowhere last year. At this time in last year’s training camp, Owens was being moved from running back to safety, only because the Jaguars needed a body at safety. There wasn’t anyone at that time who thought Owens had a breath of hope.

I didn't know much about the guy, but took him in the dynasty league I participate in. I know camp reports don't mean a ton, but being that Jax has no established WR1 at this point, Walker might have an outside chance anyway (or at least at being WR2). I would assume Jones is easily the leading WR currently though.

THe last report I saw had Jones and Reggie WIlliams fighting to make the team. Motivational ploy by Del Rio? Maybe, but it's worth noting.

 Williams has looked darn good thus far. If anyone, its Wilford, who has shown great tenacity in getting after balls but simply cannot catch the ball when he has a play on it. Its terrible for him because he clearly has a ton of talent but if he can't catch the ball, he's not going to make the team. Especially with Broussard really impressing. I'll link to TC reports later today and sum them up for you in another thread.

Nice  Pretty high praise to already be saying he's their most talented WR without a doubt. Thanks for posting.

MIKE WALKER

Wide Receiver, JAX

I believe Jacksonville got a steal when they selected Mike Walker in the 3rd Round. He caught 90 balls (averaging 7.5 receptions per game) for UCF while battling the lingering effects of a major knee injury. The JAGs new offensive staff have declared an open competition at the WR position so Walker has a great chance to make an immediate impact as a rookie. Walker has the receiving skills to stand out among a group that struggled last year to consistently make plays.

Bottom line: Don't sleep on this guy. I picked him up off the waiver wire of my dynasty league after virtually all of the other top receivers got drafted.

Great waiver wire pick-up for dynasty. He is definately a sleeper who has better opertunity than most of the other rookie wr's except maybe Davis.

He's from Orlando. My son played against Mike Walker in HS, but they were good friends. They actually signed at the same school before Walker's mom made him pull back his commitment (she didn't want him to leave home). Anyway, this guy has better ball skills than anybody on that roster not named Matt Jones. He's as clutch a receiver as you are going to find. He has great hands and can really go up and get it.......he played B-ball with Memphis State kid (Darius Washington?). It's just a matter of time before he's the #3 guy there. It all depends on how much Jax puts the ball in the air. With their running game being as good as it is, Del Rio will be more inclined to play it safe, especially if the defense is as good as I think it will be.

Agreed. JAX wants to win with rushing and defense.

from yahoo

Aug 10 Michael C. Wright, of the Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Mike Walker (finger) dislocated the middle finger on his right hand sometime during training camp, and is likely why he has been having trouble with dropped passes during practice.
