Miles Austin signs 6 year extension for 57 million (1 Viewer)

Holy crap. I've been concerned that he's a one year wonder, but if Dallas doesn't think he is, maybe I shouldn't, either. Of course, they did have the whole Roy Williams thing. But still, it sounds like maybe I haven't given him enough credit.

First thing i thought was maybe VJaxs reported 5 year 50 million dollar asking price wasnt as far fetched as first thought.

The first thing you need to know about Miles Austin is that he didn't "demand" anything all along. His approach thru all of this was that he was just here to play football and everything else would take care of itself. The thing that seperates himself from so many others is that he gets it. His manner, demeanor and personality hasn't changed from the day he arrived in Dallas. His heros are his parents. That right there says enough. He was brought up right with morals and principles at the top of the list. In today's NFL, he would be what you would call a "real" role model. This league would be blessed to have more Miles Austins all the way around. He's that good, on and off the field.

That fizzled out long ago, before it even had a chance to grow. No chemistry, as it would figure.

That seems too high. Dez will make a truckload soon enough and they just raised the bar for him too. Wonder what Witten will ask for.

They can't spend all their $ on skill position offensive players, it should be high but it seems too high IMO

Unfreakingbelieveable how much owners are willing to shell out these days after one great season of production (and I'm a Dallas fan).

Vincent Jackson hasn't done is 5 years what Miles Austin did in 9 games as a starter.

No comment — I just liked the way these were juxtaposed.

Does the CBA and possible work stoppage have something to do with this contract (and other mega-contracts we're hearing about lately)? Won't everything be restructured so owners are saying "what the hell"?

Miles is a likable guy and had those great ten games or so, but this as per usual with the Cowboys, is a reach. Even the Cowboys honks around here are wondering if that was the best move and these are some of the biggest homer fans I've ever encountered.

Do these people have blinders on or what? He's clearly a stud on the field. I don't know a simpler way to put it.

People were saying the same things about Michael Clayton post 2004, just sayin

A Michael Clayton comparison. Ouch. That's below the belt. All worries will be put to rest when Austin finishes as WR #2 this year, behind Finley.

Not really true. VJax has done more with 100 targets a year than anyone in the league. Put him in an offense that force feeds him the ball and he'd have very good numbers. Jackson has also done it for two years vs half a season.

Yea, too bad he plays for Dallas. Otherwise, he could have been a good guy. :hot:

After this season it will look like a bargain.

At first blush this seems like a lot of $$$ for Miles. But, no one complained too loudly for Roy's contract when Jerry shelled out all that $. We just wanted a great WR. We didn't get it in Roy, but we have it in Miles. He's a Dallas product and a known commodity on and off the field. I'm sure Jerry and his bean counters know the going rates despite what the agent might hype. A bunch was dumped to his annual salaries over this and the next few years so that helps with later cap issues.

Jerry's not throwing money away here IMO.
