Millen Eats Steve Young's Lunch (1 Viewer)

How is Millen still on TV?

I still remember when he made fun of Ron Jaworski for being Polish during the draft.

When you play Super Mario and you get a gold star, it is like turning into a glowing as s-kicker. Millen had a ten second gold star.

I LOVED that moment. Steve Young is pathetic...all he does is scream his nonsense over the other hosts who are often trying to actually contribute to the conversation.

Millen is my new hero. He treated Young like the mental toddler he is.

 Being constantly under-prepared and talking too much does not = "mental toddler." He's just bad at that job and I don't know why ESPN keeps him around.

The odds are pretty good that Steve Young is smarter than the people that are disparaging him in this thread, but what do I know...maybe you guys are all mensa members. Still, anyone who says "Millen is my new hero" in regards to anything that involves football just seriously undermined their credibility.

Im guessing... that what they mean is...They dont want Steve Young as a talking head for football -- just as they dont want Matt Millen running the front office of their favorite team. But when you pair them up as talking heads, Steve Young is horrendous, even worse then Millen.

Millen is very good studio analyst. He was just a terrible GM. He also might have been handcuffed by the Fords who are known meddlers.

Steve Young is pretty unbearable, he constantly interrupts people and tries to talk above and louder than everyone else. Best part of that clip is Young smiling nervously afterwards trying to play it off like he thought it was funny after getting owned.

Millen stood up for common sense. Everyone else lets Young blabber endlessly without EVER calling him out. I'd say he's temporary-hero material. As for Young being smarter than me...it's doubtful, but possible. The difference is that I don't go on TV and speak over everyone when it's not my turn, showing no respect to the analysts who actually back up their opinions with some thought and/or facts.

Bingo! :X

Millen should not have a job. Steve Young makes Paula Abdul sound like a Rhodes Scholar.
Steve Young is a prime example why the NFL should take protective measures against concussions, and also why the NFL shouldn't let victims become analysts.Millen is just an idiot.

Steve Young has a law degree.
And a dullard.
Illusory superiority.
Watching Steve Young talk on TV isnt any "illusion". (Though I agree he may be deluding himself)It's akin to watching Emmit Smith. Who amazingly has a bachorlette in ... public recreation.

Last week Millen said that Rod Marinelli was a "Great" head coach. The same Marinelli who led the Lions to a NFL record 0-16 season. After he made that statement there was an awkward silence in the booth.

I don't think it's fair to compare ANYONE to Emmitt, he coined a these wonderful comments:

1. "Wade [Phillips] inherit this success." (Commentary: That may be true, but it also looks like someone will be inheriting Emmitt's seat on Sunday NFL Countdown sometime soon.)

2. "My game-breaker go to Brett Favre." (Commentary: And my dictionary go to Emmitt. Please, Emmitt, start reading.)

3. "And when defense felt my will, it was a total different game then." (Commentary: Scoring touchdowns? Easy. Using adverbs? Impossible.)

4. "The Packers don't has a running game." (Commentary: And if this keeps up, ESPN will not has good ratings.)

5. "This team have not played confident football in three weeks." (Commentary: I love it how Emmitt refuses to use contractions. Emmitt doesn't cut corners!)

6. "He gets the ball over to their third read than most quarterback can." (Commentary: I think Emmitt forgot a word here, but at least he didn't say "He get the ball over...")

Here is the full list, if you have never read it... do yourself a favor and read it. (You will agree Emmitt =WAOAT:

He was only one of the best QB's to ever play the game. He was a monumental success at every level and holds a law degree from J Reuben Clark, ranked 8th in the nation by Princeton Review. Where is your law degree from? He's anything but an idiot.
Concussions have wrecked this man. Listen to him speak.

HFS!Too many to post.

ES: "The leadership definitely have to come from the leaders."

ES: "Reggie Bush is definitely effective. Just not tonight." (Commentary: Emmitt said this after the Falcons-Saints Monday night game. Note to Emmitt: Bush wasn't effective... because... HE DIDN'T EVEN PLAY! No wonder he wasn't effective tonight.)

Steve Young is accomplished. So is Emmit Smith.

Millen wasn't just the GM with an 0-16 team. From Wikipedia :

After his playing career, Millen was President and CEO of the Detroit Lions from 2001 until 2008. His eight-year tenure as head of the franchise led to the worst eight-year record in the history of the modern NFL (31-97), and resulted in his termination on September 24, 2008.
To quote Bill Parcells, "You are who your record says you are." In Millen's case, that translates into the complete loss of credibility on any football related conversations.

:D

While Favre has certainly played poorly this season it's amazing to me how many people want to lash out at him for the Vikings' problems and ignore the fact Minnesota's defense has turned to s**t this season. That unit's massive decline is just as much to blame for the Vikings' woes in my opinion as Favre's regression.

:whoosh: He was so godawful running that franchise I no longer want to listen to him talk football.

Funny, I thought that was kind of a "I'd love to make fun of him for being such a horrible GM, but I probably shouldn't embarrass a fellow co-worker on TV like that" kind of laugh. Young is not my favorite analyst, but Millen is just horrible now.

 . I thought Young was going to actually say something like "and you know how to run a successful team? since when?"

Meh, they're both terrible. I'm not sure who's worse. Steve Young used to just seem like he showed up with zero prep and contributed very little. Now for whatever reason he interrupts and talks a lot more, but it's still not any good. On the other hand, to steal Florio's material, Matt Millen opens his mouth and all I can hear is "I guided a franchise to an 0-16 season. I'm widely regarded as one of the worst GMs of all time. Why should anyone care about my opinions on players?" Then, if I can get myself past that to hear what he's really saying, (surprise!) it's generally worthless. I will honestly look for the Spanish simulcast instead of listening to that Thursday night booth anymore...and no, I don't really know much Spanish.

I know Young is not easy to watch as an analyst but how can anyone ever take Matt Millens side on anything.
It would take someone such as Young to acheive such a thing. His accomplishments are many indeed.I remember the first time I saw Millen, after the Lions, in the booth with a mic'... a true WTF moment.

Was he even able to figure out how to turn the mic on? That guy is a buffoon. He doesnt have two brain cells to rub together. Geesh!

I come away from that thinking Millen, although he may be a better analyst, completely lost his cool and acted like an angry roided meathead jock. Not a good moment for him.

Millen needs to be locked in a closet for about thirty years.
Too much of peoples' perceptions of Millen's work as an analyst is colored by their perception of him as a GM. I actually think he's a pretty good analyst and I like listening to him. Young just babbles. I honestly think Young is brain damaged, no shtick. He can't string two thoughts together coherently without veering off into something else and interrupting himself. It's annoying as hell, and even more so that he does it at full volume and is interrupting people and even arguing with people. He needs to be on a leash wearing a helmet at this point.
