Millers Crossing (1 Viewer)

it's one of the very best coen bros films, i think. it's probably my favorite "drama" of theirs. the "danny boy"- hit on leo scene is pure poetry. perfect casting from them.

Yea, the Danny Boy scene was great. The plot can be hard to follow the first time around but its just vusally a great movie to look at...i love Turturro more with ever movie i see of his. he was great as Bernie Birnbaum..."look in your heart" sobbing in the forest was classic too.

"They took his hair, Tommy. Jesus, that's strange, why do you think they did that?""Maybe it was injuns."

Excellent movie - and very underratedThe plot is reminiscent of Dashiell Hammet's 'The Glass Key' but that is not a bad thing.

"You ain't got a license to kill bookies and today I ain't sellin'. So take your flunky and dangle.""Jesus, Tom, I was just speculatin' about a hypothesis. I know I don't know nothin'." so many classics. the dialogue in that movie is outstanding.

"You think that I'm some guinea, fresh off the boat, and you can kick me! But I'm too big for that now. I'm sick a' takin the scrap from you, Leo. I'm a' of marching into this ####### office to kiss your Irish ###. And I'M SICK A' THE HIGH HAT! " - Johnny Casper

that guy was a GREAT character.

Ever notice how the snappy dialogue dries up once a guy starts soiling his union suit?Edit: Suit, not shorts.

"The old man's still an artist wtih the Thompson."

Just saw this tonight... great flick. Definitely need to watch it a second time though, I couldn't quite follow the first half hour or so of the movie; it was tough getting all the names and faces and roles straight at first.

This movie gets better with repeated viewings. I wish it was played more often on TV/cable. Just brilliant every step of the way IMO.

Exquisite movie. Great cinematography, clever script, sharp dialogue, strong acting, and rich symbolism. It's one of my favorites.

Hereby decree this a top 5 all time movie
Loved this movie when I saw it way back when. Highly recommend. This was when the Coen brothers were still accused of being in love with movies for the sake of movies, and stating that this ironic distance diminished real-life troubles.

Well, I disagree. The humanity comes through, just with black humor. Great flick.

I was never that into Se7en in that I had some issues with the plot. I thought it was excellent a lot of the way and then it collapsed.

Never saw it again. By contrast I have seen every other film on our list 3+ times.

Yeah that's a pretty good list.
Haven't seen this in a while, need to watch it again. Just added Raising Arizona to the queue.I like their quirky earlier movies and comedies: Blood Simple, Barton Fink, O Brother Where Art Thou.

What would your top 5 look like?

Mine would look something like...

Blade Runner

Seven Samurai

Vertigo

Clockwork Orange

Out of the Past (the greatest noir)

Some that just missed, by director...

Mann - Thief, Manhunter

Friedkin - Sorceror, To Live and Die in LA

Malick- Badlands, Thin Red Line

Cronenberg - Videodrome

Tarantino - Reservoir Dogs

A great comedy, but old school, they don't make them like that any more - Mad X 4 World

Great movie. I was going to say top 10 so someone having it in their top 5 isn't crazy.

Some other top 5 consideration:

- Shawshank

- Psycho

- Casablanca (yes, it's that good - if you haven't seen it, you should)

- Usual Suspects (definite top 5 for me)

- Raiders (love Indy)

One of my favorite movies, awesome dialogue.

Also it was filmed in and around New Orleans, some scenes in my old neighborhood.

The hat symbolism throughout the whole movie means something, not sure what.

So many great Cohen Brothers movies. My top 5:

1. Raising Arizona (yeah I know, just love everything about the movie and have probably never laughed harder than the first time I saw the market robbery/dog chase scene in the theater as a kid)

2. Fargo

3. No Country for Old Men

4. The Big Lebowski

5. Miller's Crossing

I've probably seen it >20 times. Up there with Hudsucker Proxy. All the actors are perfectly cast and at the top of their game.
