Minnesota Vikings Team Thread (3 Viewers)

The fortunes of the Lions dramatically improved after Jeff Daniels did an on-field exorcism to remove the curse of Bobby Layne (not the esteemed poster for the Lions thread <g>)

Interesting that Andy from PFW has complained that the Vikings are always disrespected by the national media.

Vikings beat the Giants last week and suddenly people are considering the Giants the worst team in the league. Like the Carolina Panthers don't exist.
Buffalo scrap by the Arizona Cardinals and they are a contender again.
49ers beat the Jets and they are again considered by many the best team in the league. Wouldn't be shocked if the Giants prove to be a better team than the Jets.
The parity of teams in the NFL is under-rated. Like being the underdog but an upset of the 49ers isn't out the realm of possibilities.

Defense was great at times but.. Giving up 2 90+ drives?? Just nuts you have them pinned inside the 1 and they drive for a score

Donaldson looked pretty good, but that Int. was classic Donaldson. The LB was just sitting in the middle of the field, no one with 5 yards of him, yet Donaldson never saw him.

No way anyone thought they'd be 2-0 after losing McCarthy, missing Jefferson at times in both games, and Adison not healthy.

I'm guessing you mean Sam Darnold?

Maybe some preventish defensive play calling on the long drive? Sure you want a stop, but keeping the ball in front of the defense and stopping big plays meant the 49ers used a lot of time off the clock.

Dare I say it. Starting to think that it might be a mistake not to sign Darnold to a 2 year contract. He could have trade valve in 2025 if he performs.
No. He is terrible
Shameless bump
So far so good but it doesn't take long for a guy to revert back to what he is. I still don't have confidence him but he hasn't been turning the ball over and is getting good O-line play. I will take it but I am still holding my breath and waiting for the real Darnold to show up.

Not worried about it. Cousins was a guy that give away a game or two by himself.
Cousins has never started 2-0 btw.

This was a complete team win and I feel like they bounce back in short order if Darnold slips up.

The team has foundational pieces all over the field and great coaching/management. Great coaching and management will help rosters achieve over expected and also keep you in the running at all times.

Glad to see Darnold be a serviceable guy for the team.

I love this team and I love this defense.

Screw it Vikings may as well win all the games this year!

After being very skeptical of the new GM and direction of him managing the team they have won me over now. Jalen Nailor finally being healthy and showing out is salvaging the 2022 draft class.

Flores deserves tons of credit for his input on the free agent defensive acquisitions.

Flores is confusing the heck out of offensives. It was great to hear the crowd react when Sam came back in the game after missing one play.
He is playing a LOT better than I thought he would. Credit to Kevin to adjusting the game plan to match his skills.

Big game next vs. The Packers and then overseas to face Rodgers.

Three weeks in and I’ve STILL not been able to catch the vikes game. My daughter plays soccer and every freaking Sunday of course she’s playing somewhere.

Edit: I do listen to KFAN in the car and watch the score line though.

Well then, keep on doing what you are doing, as it seems to be working for The Vikes ;)

I think Berchich was talking about how the Vikings are playing a lot of middle open quarters coverage.

Until teams figure that out may as well keep doing it.

I have been truly amazed at what Darnold is doing. I was not a believer but am being won over. I have been surprised by his mobility and that he isn't making dumb plays (although he did try a couple times yesterday). As long as those dumb plays don't rear their ugly head and the defense keeps on playing the way they are playing they should have a chance in any game. Although, I am keeping my hopes at bay a bit as a I know a nugget punch can be around any corner.

its amazing what a good offensive coach and some solid weapons can do for a young QB - signed jealous Jets fan

Started the game very relaxed.. ready for whatever.. Vikings go up 28-0 :excited:

Then O'Connel goes and make a Bonehead move and now

The Packers getting a TD near the end is all on O'Connell.
Previous drive 3rd and 1 at the 40.
Clock is running, if you run there either you get a 1st down, or Green Bay uses 1 of 2 timeouts and then you punt.
Instead you try to throw stopping the clock.
With the way Aaron Jones was running why are you throwing there??

He doesn't trust Garrett Bradbury to get any push. I am not sure he is wrong.

 I think you still need to run it there. Game situation and all.

Leave it to the Vikings to take a 28-0 lead and then make their fans chew off all their fingernails by game end. WHEW.

4-0 and is 4-0 though :excited:

Next week overseas morning game against Jets. Then a bye..

Good problem to have, but... What do the Vikings do if Darnold keeps this up? McCarthy would be worth a 1st round pick in a trade. Tag/Sign Darnold and keep them both like the Falcons with Cousins/Penix? Let Darnold go elsewhere for an unknown who will basically be a red shirt rookie?

Intriguing situation.

They are not trading McCarthy. McCarthy earned the backup spot and was pushing to start.

I can't see a team that needs a QB not tampering with Darnold. Hopefully Kwesi handles it the same was he did Cousins - draw a line in the sand and say this is what we are paying. I can also see Darnold (unlike Cousins) not going to the highest bidder. He wanted to go to Minnesota because of the team situation and it is doubtful he can find anything close next season.

Let’s say they go 12-5. Win the division. Lose in the divisional round. Darnold plays pretty well all year. He’s probably the Comeback Player of the Year.

You let that guy walk?
