Minor league draft (1 Viewer)

Our keeper league is looking into having a "minor league" draft following up our regular draft.

All players, including minor leaguers, would be eligible for our regular draft.....but we've got some kinky keeper rules.

Right now, we're kicking around the idea of having a 1 round minor league draft that allows us to keep said players indefinitely, or at least until they are called up(then subject to regular keeper rules)

How does your league accomplish this?

How do you pick draft order? Are minor leaguers eligible to be traded? How long can you keep them?

Just trying to get a general idea before we move ahead.

it depends a lot on your current keepers rules. I think the easiest thing to do would be to just increase roster sizes next year and let teams keep a player w/out MLB service without it counting against their a regular keeper limits.

Well you guys really have to decide what kind of league you want this to be - I applaud them for wanting to have a minor league draft....they should be an integral part of keeper leagues. BUT there needs to be some separation - players in the minor leagues should NOT be available in the regular draft and major league players shouldn't be available in the minor league draft - Keep them separate and things will work much better.Okay on to the specific questions (btw why didn't I already answer this somewhere else?)1) my AL keeper league (and several others) have five round minor league draft AFTER the regular auction2) order for minor league draft is based on previous year's standings - the team highest in the standings out of the money - so 5th place if you pay four spots - gets the first pick...........let's say 12 team league that pays top four teams...........minor league draft order would be (order of finish) 5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-4-3-2-1 > then reverse (serpentine draft)3) Yes, minor leaguers can be traded - this is a huge part of keeper leagues and stud minor leaguers (and early minor league draft picks) are the currency of the realm.3a) minor league draft picks for the following year can be traded during the season (but must be one for one, ie I trade you my first round pick for your fifth round pick) everyone still has five picks each year4)You can keep the minor leaguers as long as you want - my league charges you $5 for each minor leaguer you retainYou then have to have good rules about when minor leaguers need to be promoted - my rule is if they are called up during the season AND stay active with major league club then they have to be transacted (activated to lineup, to reserve list, or waived to free agent pool). Once a FARM player is activated to your roster he CAN'T go back to being a FARM player (if he was sent back down to the minors we do allow them to be moved to the minors but they would still have a "major league" contractEnough for now - digest and get back to me elsewhere

I prefer kinky :banned: Our keeper values are based on where each player is drafted. 1st: $52-4: $45-9: $310-19: $220+ waiver wire: $1Each year a player is kept their value increases by $2.Total of $18 to spend each year. Captn: still have yet to fully digest everything.....I'll give it a look a little later(leaving work now)
