MJD Knee Issues (1 Viewer)

"ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that there are "questions and doubts around the league" regarding the health of Maurice Jones-Drew's knee.

Schefter confirms that Jones-Drew will start Sunday, but it sounds like there is serious concern about whether he'll be 100 percent. It's never a good sign when a running back has a knee injury, period. We can't imagine sitting MJD in such a favorable matchup (the Broncos' front seven is incredibly weak), but it's a situation to track closely early in the year. Jones-Drew owners must grab Rashad Jennings. Deep leaguers can pick up Deji Karim."

Was surprised MJD only went for $23 in our $100 auction last night (1 pt/25 yd league) but guys were all aware of the uncertainty of the knee so that's why he went at a 25-30% discount.

if he was hurt, they would not play him, end of story. But they are not only practicing him, but playing him. This is a made up rumor at this point

It could be something that he can play through, but will limit his upside. At say, 75% (I'm making up this number), he's still probably better than anything Jacksonville can put it out there. I'm also assuming that doctors must not believe that his injury can get any worse by playing (seems like a rather odd conclusion to make since he's coming off the knee injury).

Why does Adam need to be all speculative again? Its one thing if MJD doesn't practice, or "no contact", sees specialists about his leg, gets a questionable tag from the coaches, but "questions around the league" doesn't mean squat IMO. That someone around the league could be from coach McDaniels or some other random person that has no idea about his status. He is just stirring the grass here for no good reason except for ratings :lmao:

Glad I grabbed Jennings but still. Schefter's usually fairly accurate but not sure what "questions and doubts around the league" really refers to.

As an owner (and yes, I own him in two of three leagues), what do you move him for? One guy in my league was sniffing around him and he owns CJ, Bowe, Wayne, and V Jackson.

Dissapointing report from Schefter. Basically tells us nothing. Questions and doubts around the league? What the hell does that mean?

The Jaguars play Sunday, that will probably be when everyone know if he's healthy. Until then everyone is wasting their time speculating.

So who to believe, the player or the attention grabbing analyst?

I guess we'll find out this week.

He seems pretty adamant that it's a non issue "NO INJURY". I find it funny that he said he was disappointed that he dropped in fantasy drafts. LOL!

CJ = Calvin? I would likely bite on Calvin and either Bowe or Wayne in my situation. (ADP RB1, Bradshaw RB3, crap for WRs)

So happy I passed on him at the #3 slot. This news would have ruined my day.

MJD has been adamant on his own FF radio show that he is perfectly fine and should be drafted as the #1 RB in the league. I mean adamant, like total non-issue. We'll see..

What news are you referring to?

I'm sure #4 will be thanking you when MJD puts up 110/2 Week 1

The funny part is, he never addresses as to why he has not played in 3 weeks...I remember the time the baseball player denied taking...We all lie. Why would MJD lie? For starters, he may not want to have the info out there from a team perspective so the opponents can plan around him. He may also not want it from a personal perspective so players to not take low shots at him. All I want to know is where did this rumor start if there is "no injury"...are you telling me they could have said he had a bum shoulder instead? When there is smoke, there is usually fire and now I gotta unload this clown.

ESPN is the absolute worst. They need to stop doing sports reporting and just turn into a gossip website. They have the most inaccurate reports out there.

Yes, obviously would not go straightup for Bowe or V jackson. But if the guy said Calvin Johnson and Jackson for MJD, I would be thinking long and hard.

I recall a certain WR named moss having a hurt hamstring in PRE and never played. His team said NOTHING on the matter. I avoided him as a WR with a hammy aint good and it lingers. Well....he broke the WR TD record that year.....

I'd be more concerned about the OL in front of him than any supposed injury but to each his own.

MJD has made it almost "obnoxiously" clear that he wants to get into journalism/media/etc., when he retires. This is really his first test and he is putting his body where his mouth is. The guy is only 25, but if he fails miserably, people will remember (again, he is doing this from a journalist's (not a player's) angle) that he said X and delivered Y. I am not sure he is mature enough to understand, but for his sake he better be right. If he thought there was compeition for his job on the field, he will be shocked to see what competition there is behind him in journalism. Jim Miller on Sirius radio was nothing more than david carr on the field, but Rice and Tiki Baber are on the street because of what this journeyman brings to the table in the real world.

it means people are questioning and doubting the severity of what the team and mjd are telling everyone.

I think if it were a true "non-issue" then he wouldn't have rested it so much this preseason. And usually with these things, where there's a little smoke....you will find some fire. Gonna be very unhappy with MJD after i drafted him based around his OWN continued insistence that he was 100% healthy.
I just think JDR knows he's gonna be running this guy into the ground during the regular season, no sense beating him up now.MJD 2009 Preseason

Week 4

3 rushes 11 yards

3 rec 6 yards

Week 3

5 rushes 12 yards

2 rec 58 yards

Week 2

1 rush 2 yards

3 rec 18 yards

Week 1

1 rush 4 yards

1 rec 3 yards

It's not like JDR has a history of running him a lot in the preseason.

He probably hasn't played in 3 weeks because it's the pre-season and it doesn't mean anything.

This is more of a non-issue that the knee. Seriously doubt that his journalistic future hinges on what he's said about his knee.

Take Schefter's report at face value - it means there are people around the league who question/doubt whether MJD's knee is 100%. Schefter does not make stuff up so that he has something to report.

The funny part is, he never addresses as to why he has not played in 3 weeks...
because "I'm a superstar, and i don't need to play in the preseason" doesn't sound that great.
I think he said he had the opportunity to rest and took it. Do we really need to sensationalize everything???

Rice isn't the best speaker and barber publicly embarrassed his pregnant wife.

This is something to keep in mind here, imo. MJD is a fantasy junkie just like the rest of us here. What street cred will he have left if he BS's the rest of us out here that he's fine if that were not the case? Zip, zada, zilch! So my take is the talking heads just need some ratings, and this is no more than a strategic word smith of the same ol bunk rumor of 2 weeks ago. "Questions around the league" he says, yea no #### sherlock, lingering questions around the league from the same bunk rumor of 2 weeks ago and that is all there is to this. If you guys want to sell off MJD, I'M BUYIN!!

Schefter's been off on several things this preseason. He had the Lienart interest from the Bills/Raiders/etc. totally wrong for instance. He used to have inside info that was pretty reliable, seems like since rising to prominence he's slipped quite a bit.

As I recall, MJD got cheapshotted on the knee last year in preseason and they shut him down for the most part. If it were anyone else that took that hit, he woulda been out for the year.

not really. scheft doesnt guess or make wild predictions. he just reports what he hears.

Easy to hate on ESPN.....but as an MJD owner...i am worried. I have a feeling as well that there's something we're not being told.

Really. He was totally wrong on the Leinart thing, and it was obvious at the time as Jay Glazer had actually had contact from teams asking him about Leinart as a reference (he trained Leinart in the offseason) and flat out said none of the people Schefter mentioned were among them. Then the organizations themselves came out and contradicted Schefter. Maybe he should do a little more investigating before he "just reports what he hears." That's kinda his job - and he hasn't done well at it this offseason.

I just get an uneasy feeling about him - last Saturday I passed on him at #4 in a redraft becuause of it.
