MLB in-season thread (1 Viewer)

In that case, all of what I said was wrong. Glad to see you decided not to take me up on the bolded.
I don't paint all players with the same brush. He erupted the last month plus of 2009. He kept it up for all of 2010. The biggest reason I felt it could continue? He's shown a great eye. I don't think every player who blows up will always continue. But I don't ignore the possibility simply because limited historical data points to it not continuing. The number of players that fit his path are too small to draw any meaningful conclusions.
We'll see. While deadly powerful, I feel his swing is somewhat limited. He can't drive the ball the other way, and he's too all-or-nothing to have a long-term success rate. Contact rate is still a huge concern, even with the great eye you mentioned. No question he's become a significantly better hitter than he was 2 or 3 years ago, and has probably exceeded all ceiling expectations of him.

What the heck is going on in the AL Central? Twins, Tigers, and ChiSox all fighting for the cellar? Royals and Indians fighting for first? It's still early but I sure as hell didn't think it would look anything like this a month into the season.

Nothing else is *too* shocking (aside from the Red Sox).

Cleveland Indians with 5 series sweeps so far this year. They had 4 all of last year.

Jack Cust has 5 plate appearances with the bases loaded so far this season. He has walked all 5 times

Looks like MLB now has a 7 day disabled list if you have concussion symptoms. When was this implemented?
This year - with all the concussion problems in the last few years they wanted to give the teams a better way to deal with them and also not have the player or team have to fear a loss of two weeks of playing time if everything checked out okay.

If Paul Konerko repeats what he did last year, and it is looking that way so far (39 HR, 111 RBI, 89 R, 312 AVG) where does that place him in terms of value?

I have offered him to some people and they seem reluctant. I'm guessing his real value is far above his perceived value. I mean, is Adrian Gonzalez worth more than Konerko?

#Indians Shin-Soo Choo arrested for DUI early Monday in Sheffield Lake.

from ESPNLA.....

LOS ANGELES -- Jonathan Broxton, the embattled All-Star closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was sent for an MRI exam on his right elbow after finally admitting to team officials on Wednesday morning that he has been experiencing discomfort.

Manager Don Mattingly said no determination will be made on whether to place Broxton on the 15-day disabled list until the results of that exam are known

Broxton, who apparently already had left Dodger Stadium to undergo the exam, wasn't available for comment.

"He came in today complaining about some stuff," said Mattingly, who wasn't sure how long Broxton had been experiencing discomfort. "I told him it was honorable that he wanted to pitch through that, but that in the end, it doesn't do him any good. It's not fair to him, and it's really not fair to anybody else, either."

With Broxton sidelined, Vicente Padilla will be the team's first-choice closer for now.

Broxton, who lost the closer's role in the second half of last season after making the National League All-Star team for the second time, has been shaky again this year after being given the job back to start the season. He was unavailable for a save situation April 27 in Florida because he didn't feel right playing catch.

Shot the #### with Cousins again the other day, talkin baseball. What's cool about him is he doesn't mind at all...actually likes it. Guys will give him #### too, about making bad calls or sucking, he laughs. Bought a round of shots, too, can't NOT like that guy.

You can file this one under "Worth Every Penny"

Roy Halladay is 18-1 with a 1.56 ERA in 19 starts against National League East opponents since arriving in Philadelphia.Yes, somehow Halladay has yet to even take a no-decision against any of his divisional brethren. A pretty remarkable statistic, and a good indicator of how the Phils eventually ran away with the NL East last season and why they are a threat to do so again in 2011.

Max Ramirez was released by the Cubs today. I haven't been that wrong about a player since Ruben Mateo.
