for next year only, who would you take?Stanton + one of Hosmer/Kipnis/MaybinorMaybin, Hosmer, Kipnis, and random prospect or ww player to be picked up...
Stanton + Hosmer blows that other side out of the water
Anything with Stanton.
thats where i was leaning. who would you pair w/ him? you buying maybins success this year?
You're asking the wrong guy. I have never loved a Tigers prospect more, fastest guy I've ever seen home to third. I like all those guys but I'd take Kipnis or Maybin over Hosmer because of position eligibility. Hosmer may be the best bat in the group, but he's also a 1Bman and you can always find good bats there. :2cents:

Cliff Lee just finished his 2nd month of the season with at least 5 wins and 0 losses, combined with an ERA under 1.00

June: 5-0, 0.21 ERA

Only two other players have done this in one season in the history of baseball

Walter Johnson 1913

April: 5-0, 0.21 ERA

Congratulations to the Yankees and Red Sox in finishing nine innings of baseball in a tidy 3 hours and 16 minutes yesterday, over 40 minutes faster than the nine innings they played the previous night.

You can imagine my surprise when I started channel-surfing after the Braves-Nationals game and found that the Yanks and Sox had already completed two thirds of their game. It was almost like they were playing the same sport.

Brett Lawrie, over 1.000 OPS, .333 average, and now with stolen bases? You are an awesome man.

Thank you for making my 3B not a total disaster.

For those who don't browse the Yankee thread: Jesus has risen!

BOSTON -- Jesus Montero is due to arrive to the Yankees today, not to be September window dressing. But, instead, to see if he can become an October option. No Yankees official would publicly acknowledge Montero's imminent promotion when rosters expand. But as I was first to report online yesterday, Montero is indeed scheduled to be in Boston today. And don't be surprised if he is in the lineup tonight against lefty Jon Lester.Because the first door open to Montero is going to be the regular DH against lefty pitching and then the Yankees could see if the youngster could expand upon that to DH against all pitching. It is one reason the Yankees do not want to be discussing Montero right now; because it would be yet another moment - coincidentally during another Yankees-Red Sox series -- in which they could be slapping down Jorge Posada.

Devin Mesoraco got the call as well

The game on Tuesday was painful, it makes me empathize with those who hate baseball.

Minnesota C Joe Mauer was pulled from the starting lineup just before the beginning of Friday's game against the Angels with an illness, according to MLB.com
This guy is a disaster. Sand in labia? Stop doing commercials, start hitting the baseball!

I think the Royals are actually headed in the right direction. This group of young guys seems to actually be a group that can win in the next few years. I think if they add a few veteran starters they could really be dangerous as soon as next year.

nothing like going into a sunday of a close matchup to realize. four of your starters are not playing in the starting lineups. god i hate weekly leagues.

Yea he's a fat pig. I'm sure he'll say that he was checking to see if it was a hr, but he wasn't going to check it until Mckeon came out to question it and I'm sure he wasnt asking it to be a hr. And I thought they could only review hr calls to begin with? I'm not sure how you can call a double an out because of fan interference. It will be interesting to hear the league's story on this one.

They can review fan interference on a HR call. Most of those Phillies fans sitting where the ball was touched were signaling HR. If he's checking to see if a fan interfered on a HR call....they aren't going to ignore the fan interference if it's only actually a double.

Right but it was never a hr call. So that's my question how can they call fan interference on a non hr call?

A hit that stays in the field of play such as Pence's double, can be reviewed to see if it's a HR....it doesn't have to be called a HR on the field. That can be at the umps discretion or at the request of a manager. Once the call is reviewed....even if it's not a HR.....they can call interference on the play. I imagine that either West and the Umps thought it was a HR (it was close enough and the fans were all signaling it to be) or McKeon knew that it was interference, tried to get a replay on the interference and when told that that wasn't possible asked to review if it were an HR, knowing what would happen.

magelb Matt GelbSo Joe West said Charlie Manuel asked for a replay review. But Charlie says he did not. Once replay happens, "we must use all evidence."
This is correct. Also Pence and the Phiilies should stop #####ing. It was the right call, and your dooshbag fans are the ones who interfered with the play in the first place.

Still doesn't mean Joe West isn't a liar.

Calm down man. I'm impressed that you know the rules that aren't even in the MLB rulebook. Kudos to you! Doesn't mean you have to flip out for us trying to find out what the rules are, next time we'll come right to you. Seems like players and coaches on both sides didn't know the correct rules on instant replay.

Did Zach Stewart look as good as his stat line suggests tonight? Watching him in a Blue Jays uniform he didn't look all that impressive to me, granted it was only a few starts.

I think we all know what the rules are when it comes to taking your stupid hat off your fat meat head and sticking it out into the field of play.

Bobby Valentine recently said that Mark Teixeira would go down in history as the greatest switch hitter EVER.

A guy called into WFAN to let Mike Francesa know what Bobby said, and Fatty nearly had a stroke. "That's insane... Bobby is entitled to his opinion, but has he ever heard of Mickey Mantle??? NO switch hitter will ever match The Mick. It would be a joke how many home runs he'd hit at these new ball parks. And what about Eddie Murray?!"

He's right, of course. It was just funny how the caller put him on tilt.

Anybody hear V's rationale on this?

"Remember that season when the White Sox wore shorts?"

Broadcasters love to bring this one up. Whenever the talk in the booth turns to ugly uniforms, someone will say, "Yeah, and then there was that season when the White Sox wore the shorts. Jeez, remember that?" The implication is that the Sox wore shorts for an entire season, which isn't even remotely close to being true. They wore the shorts exactly three times in 1976: Aug. 8, Aug. 21 and Aug. 22 -- and that's it. It's amazing how the legend of the shorts has grown out of three games that were played in a two-week span.
Here is a video taken by a fan of the game on August 22. Not much more video footage of the White Sox in shorts exists.

Moscoso has a no hitter going into eight inning for Oakland.

Well, there goes that. 7 2/3 and it's over. I jinxed it.

I thought the Brewers were supposed to be good at home? Like really good? :lmao:
If Philly's lineup is even remotely clicking....it's going to require a series of goofy incidents to beat them....and that's only in a 5 game series....that being said, the Braves of the 90's were beat a bunch of times in the playoffs.

What is the theory on the Doug Fister trade? How did Seatle feel they could let this guy go for a cheese danish and a bag of balls?

I'm going to guess the answer to your question spurs another one, what were the other teams thinking? I always thought he was a very solid pitcher, who definitely owed part of his success to safeco, but there was enough ability and intelligence there to see what he could do. I'm guess teams weren't hot on him, so Seattle took what they could get. But at that, he still had years of control. Another crap deal from Jack Zzzzzzzzzzz

The thing with Fister is that it is a two-fold idea. First, you bring him in as your #3 pitcher for a stretch run. Secondly, you have him under contract through 2014 and he's not even arbitration eligible until the year after next. At worst you were getting an innings eater with good upside, but Fister has some pretty good stuff and should be a solid middle of the rotation guy for the remainder of his contract. That is worth a lot in baseball to a team. They gave up two decent pitching prospects, a good defensive catching prospect and a 4th/5th OFer type so Fister wasn't free (they did get Pauley also), but he's exactly what the Tigers needed NOW. He's also a guy that looks like fits well into the future, so it's a win for the Tigers regardless of how those prospects pan out IMO.
