2007 Power Rankings: May 4
RK LW RANK TEAM REC COMMENT
1 2 Red Sox 18-9 Manny Ramirez is in the midst of one of his patented hot streaks right now. Just sit back and enjoy it, folks.
2 1 Mets 17-10 Moises Alou is nothing less than an absolute hitting machine. The guy can rake!
3 5 Indians 17-8 Jake Westbrook's injury puts Fausto Carmona back in the rotation. Carmona goes for his fourth straight QS on Monday.
4 3 Tigers 16-11 Sheff's cooking again. The 38-year-old slugger has nine hits in his last 18 at-bats, including two homers.
5 4 Braves 17-10 Kelly Johnson has been a pleasant surprise offensively batting out of the leadoff spot and defensively at second base.
6 8 Brewers 18-10 A well-rested Francisco Cordero enters the Pirates series having allowed just two hits and zero runs.
7 6 Dodgers 17-11 Mark Hendrickson has allowed just two earned runs in three starts (16.2 IP) since Jason Schmidt went on the DL.
8 9 Twins 15-13 What's wrong with Joe Nathan? Opponents are batting .339 against the Twins' closer.
9 11 Padres 15-13 It's taking longer for Kevin Kouzmanoff (.118 BA) to get comfortable than the Padres would have liked.
10 15 Angels 16-13 While Bartolo Colon remains undefeated, Jered Weaver (5.12 ERA) still has some things to work out.
11 7 Blue Jays 13-15 Great one game, bad the next. The Jays just never know what to expect from A.J. Burnett.
12 10 Giants 14-13 Don't be surprised if Tim Lincecum (0.29 ERA, 46 K's in 31 innings at Triple-A) is as good as advertised.
13 12 Yankees 12-14 On a team filled with stars (some of whom are aging quickly), Jorge Posada is as valuable as any of them.
14 16 Diamondbacks 16-14 Split personality. In one-run games, the Diamondbacks are 7-1 at home and 1-5 on the road.
15 19 Cubs 12-14 Derrek Lee has raised his average 55 points to .415 since April 23, a span of eight games.
16 14 Athletics 13-14 Another day, another injury. Losing Mike Piazza doesn't help the offense, but the A's need to keep on trucking.
17 23 Marlins 13-14 Dontrelle Willis continues to show that he's very comfortable swinging the bat (three hits, including a triple, in 11 at-bats).
18 17 Pirates 13-14 Enjoy second place while it lasts. The Pirates have been outscored 123 to 97.
19 25 Mariners 12-11 Keep an eye on Yuniesky Betancourt. He is emerging as one of the best all-around shortstops in the game.
20 22 Phillies 13-15 Adam Eaton is above .500 (3-2) only because he's had a lot of run support. His ERA (8.18) is just plain awful.
21 13 White Sox 12-13 Reliever David Aardsma (2-0) has an impressive 23 strikeouts in 15.2 innings, holding opponents to a .154 BAA.
22 24 Reds 13-15 Adam Dunn has nine runs, seven RBI and four homers in his last six games.
23 27 Devil Rays 13-15 B.J. Upton is very quickly becoming a feared presence in the middle of the Rays' lineup.
24 20 Astros 12-15 The only negative about Roy Oswalt: He?s walked 18 in seven starts. Oswalt issued 38 last season.
25 18 Orioles 12-16 Chad Bradford (0.79 ERA in 16 appearances) has been dynamite pitching out of the O's bullpen.
26 26 Rockies 11-17 Matt Holliday leads the majors in hits (45) and ranks second in batting average (.385). Too bad he can't pitch.
27 21 Cardinals 10-16 Some rather ugly numbers from the last five games, all losses: 6.64 team ERA, .229 BA, 36 runs allowed.
28 30 Royals 10-19 Looks like the Royals have found a closer: Joakim Soria (.167 BAA) has five saves in five chances.
29 28 Rangers 10-18 Remember me? Sammy Sosa is averaging a home run every 13 at-bats and hitting .385 with runners in scoring position.
30 29 Nationals 9-19 Shawn Hill hasn?t allowed more than three earned in each of his six starts, but he has just a 2-3 record.
