I haven't played a baseball video game in a long time. I heard this is supposed to be the best one...anyone play this series? Is it any good?

Got back into the market for a video gaming system and it was neck and neck between a PS3 or a 360, but the Blu-Ray player and The Show pushed me to the PS3. Will be getting this game for sure when I get my system in the mail.

I got the PS3 that comes with Playstation Move. Really interested to see how pitching and hitting work on that.

Anyone know much about how online franchises work? I'd like to run one with my brother and have the other teams all be CPU controlled. Possible?

Tried it a couple of years ago and hated the game play. Too much randomness in the pitching for me. There were so many times where I'd pitch 5 or 6 good innings, miss my spot on the pitching meter ONCE and the flood gates would open. One big hit and all of a sudden my pitcher would lose all of his confidence and it would be basically impossible to hit my spots.
Not saying I want to be able to throw shutouts every time out, but one bad pitch doesn't turn CC Sabathia into AJ Burnett. (at least not as consistently as it happened to me back in 09 or 10)
I know the series is universally worshiped, but I just had an awful experience.
I still think MVP 05 was the best baseball game of all time. It was absolute $$$ on the PC with all the mods.

They do? That new this year? Being serious. I know they have online seasons but no CPU controlled teams. My issue with the pulse pitching is the "circle pulse" does not get small enough.basically you have this circle around the ball "pulsing" The smallest point is half the strikezone while the bigger circle is large but it seems tough to tell when it's at it's smallest.The other issue so far is it's tough to tell how much you missed the "proper pulse" by. For example, the circle fades as you deliver the pitch so you have an idea how good/bad it was but you don't know how close was that to "perfect". And it feels to me that even the slightest miss causes too much unexpected results.I feel like I can't miss at all or it's an awful pitch. Feels like too little margin for error.This is only with about 15 innings so far so take it for what its' worth.Still a great game

The pitching in this game is really pissing me off hardcore. I've tried all the modes and I feel I have absolutely no control over where the ball is going, even if I hit my spots correctly. No mode works for me...none.
I'm slowly getting hitting, but that too is extremely touchy. So tired of slicing everything.

About to sell/trade in this game. I can't do anything to improve my pitching. ANYTHING. And the hitting is just too random it seems. Tired of slicing every ####### pitch.

You realize theres 4 different pitching settings to choose from?Pulse Pitching, Meter, Classic, AnalogYou realize theres 4 different hitting settings to choose from?Zone, Timing, Zone plus Analog, AnalogYou can also lower pitch speed if youre having trouble catching up to fastballs.Also, are you playing on an LCD TV. Perhaps youre experiencing input lag (look it up). Try switching to Game Mode on your TV.

Yes, I'm on an LCD. Yes, I had Game Mode switched off. Yes, I am dumb.Edit, yes I do realize there's four different modes for pitching and hitting.

On of my main gripes with the earlier games was the screwy progression when doing a franchise. I would call up my star AAA SP and he would win ROY with good #'s and then go down in things. Is this still the case>?
