More Terrorism in France, or Something else? (1 Viewer)

There is no way to achieve this without figuring out the specifics. I don't think there is anyone here that wouldn't love to see every member of ISIS die a grisly miserable death. No matter what our politics, we are all united on this. Everybody, no matter how liberal or conservative, wants to see them dead.

But how best to do it is the question. There's a lot to consider.
Dead

US citizens are losing on all fronts.  The jihadists kill people.  Then our leaders give the NSA more and more power to spy on everything.  The whole thing sucks on so many levels.
I don't see how we stop these attacks without a powerful NSA. I get the risks, but of all our choices, I believe that's the best one.

One of the cable news channels (I've been flipping, so don't remember which one) reported an American man and his son were killed.
Last I heard was more towards the start of O'Reilly 8:00 EST, things have likely changed.

On Twitter it seems to confirm in the last many minutes, sad.

Apparently father/son from Central Texas who plays on a baseball team with friends of ours according to Facebook. Just visiting Nice on vacation and now gone.

I don't hear you weigh in on a lot of politics and probably best to many HOWEVER, when you do speak out or post I am typically pulled in and connect quickly.  You are hitting a real nerve for me here, in a good way. You are right in ALL of us here in the United States are losing on ALL fronts. On one hand we react to these horrific events, we give away some of our freedoms to help aid the NSA which a lot of us do not trust...

Wish you would lead a discussion or write a long column on it...you're already in the HoF so you're legacy will remain intact. I can't tell who you would vote for right now but I'm betting you're not excited about either of them. I think I remember you showing the great wealth many were experiencing under Obama when the stock market rose a bunch but I could be wrong on that.

Good to see one of the higher ups around here stop by. Wish the topic were better though.

I think reasonable people will oppose deportation and internment. I think reasonable people won't even discuss such "solutions" and shun those who do.
And your shunning Tim does nothing to help come up with a solution. For a guy so heavily opinionated that we need to discuss and hear all angles to further discussion toward a solution, you sure are quick to block out the ones you don't like.

Also, you cannot shun a vote.  If a candidate supports deportation and wins an election, what can you do about that?  That will happen sooner or later if a solution is not found.

I'm pretty sure the worst solution would be to try beefing up the NSA first, creating a huge monster there, and then switching to mass deportations when that fails.  Then you've wrecked everyone privacy and evicted people like its 1942.

There is a guy on sky news telling everyone not to jump to conclusions as this could just as easily be a right wing terror attack as radical Islam.  Are people really this delusional?

It's a sad place we have come to.  But if we don't Start really doing something this #### won't stop.  Where is the leadership?  Never seem such a vaccum.  What needs to be done is right in front of us and no one has the balls to do what is needed.  Step up
Hillary will take care of it.

Shamrock it's not a question of like or dislike. I honestly think deportation and/or internment of Muslims is unamerican. It's just wrong.

Then we rely on Congress to do what's right. And if that fails the Supreme Court.

And if that fails then civil disobedience, IMO, would be oreferable to allowing mass deportations or internment to happen.

I'm pretty curious how you define American v unAmerican. Deportation and internment are un-American. Government spying on US Citizens is American.

So how do you decide between the two?

I don't believe that what the NSA does constitutes a mass crime. In fact, using algorithms to look through mass emails is not unconstitutional IMO.

But we've had this discussion about the NSA before and I don't want to derail the thread with it. If you find my positions to be contradictory I likely won't change your mind. But my views on the NSA shouldn't effect the question of deportation and internment being wrong.

soo is racial profiling. so is giving the nsa more power.
I regard internment and mass deportation as major threats to our identity as a free society. I don't regard profiling (on a limited very careful basis) or the NSA (monitored by judicial authority) to be in that category.

Of course it is. Stop it with this NSA nonsense. NSA isn't going to keep you safe from terrorists Tim.

Seems you;re not taking these Islamic attacks seriously. How many more need to be killed?
There is no number of deaths from terrorism that would ever justify deportation or internment.

Deporting people with a culture 180° from American culture with no willingness to assimilate is unamerican yet mass surveillance is as American as apple pie.

According to Obama, there is no such thing as radical Islam.  Every one of the terrorists are simply "demented".

I don't have a specific solution, but playing by the old set of rules hasn't worked for decades. The war on terrorism is turning out like the war on drugs. Every now and then you hear about  a big win, but for the most part the problem continues to grow. Part of the reason this country has it's freedom is because we brought an unconventional tactic to the battlefield. Instead of standing in a line and volleying back and forth, we hid in the trees and took our enemy by surprise. Similar tactics were used against our forces in Vietnam. And yet today, we think we can win a war against an enemy that is creating new rules every day. It will take unconventional thinking (and action) to find the solution.

This is unequivocally true.

Come on guys, we're simply not going to kick people out or place them in an arbeitslager...err I mean internment camp...because of their race or creed.

Stop and think for a minute.

I don't know what the solution is with this mess. That being said, this is a world wide problem. I don't see how kicking people out of the US (who are here legally and haven't done anything wrong) does anything but provide lip service to those that want to see action. If you have the mind set that includes you not caring where they go as long as it isn't here, then this thread is worthless because you don't care about the rest of the world anyways.

Yes, just like Hitler was a world wide problem.

Sadly for Trumpkins doesn't look like this guy was mooslim.
You may want to go back and check your intel. We have claims of him shouting allah akbar and his first name is Mohamed. That's good enough for Trumpkins.

As he came to a stop, witnesses claim he then opened fire on officers while screaming "Allahu Akbar" - which means God is greatest in Arabic.
