I'd never heard of this drink before. Tonight, at a function, quite a few people were drinking these and I only knew about it because of this thread. It's not bad, but not something I'd likely have again on my own.

Did it come in a copper mug?

No, and I promptly pointed out that it obviously should as the Moscow Mule snob that I am.

I've probably had a greater variation in the quality of a Moscow Mule than almost any other drink. The copper mug is a must. Keeps it ice cold, ice doesn't' melt quickly in the drink, etc. It just isn't the same in a glass. Must be fresh squeezed lime juice. Not Rose's or other junk. Good ginger beer. I've used Bundaberg and #### n Bull. A friend bought some Smirnoff crap (all they had at the local grocery stuff) and it was terrible. Good vodka. Fresh mint. I know some people use bitters too.

Also popular are the Scottish Mule (Hendricks) and Kentucky Mule (Bulleit).

Does it really keep a drink colder? Why not just go with an insulated tumbler or something? Or is it more of the novelty aspect?

I actually like mine in short glasses (smaller than mugs) cause it cuts down on the ginger. I can only stomach one or two of these because I can't tolerate the ginger - and the ginger beer is usually house made where I get these.
